Book excerpt: ADVANCE PRAISE FOR WHAT THE INTERNET CANT TEACH YOU In a new digital world where instant communication has left us feeling more disconnected than ever, it is the tried and tested values and principles that really make the difference to todays managers. Theres a reason why guys like Sam Walton and Lou Pritchett have been so successful. We should all be so lucky as to listen and find out why. DAN MANGRU, Host of The Mangru Report on Fox Business What the Internet Cant Teach You has, in one place, the lessons one learns in a military career. I know many military people who failed because they didnt learn these principles of leadership and management! COL. WILL MERRILL, West Point, Class of 1958, Airborne Ranger, US Army (ret) I wish I had had Lous book back in 1986 when we introduced Stainmaster carpeting to the world. His succinct maxims are a timeless road map to business success, cutting through the fog of circumstance and technology. I recommend it to all young aspiring leaders. TOM MCANDREWS, the Father of Stainmaster, Former DuPont Worldwide Director, Flooring Systems Each morning, millions of managersfrom supervisors at McDonalds to Fortune 500 presidentscommute to their respective jobs, where their subordinates rely on their leadership, advice, and coaching in order to be successful themselves. Desperate to achieve greatness in a highly competitive world driven by technology, these leaders are often frustrated with the loss of one-on-one mentorship from a boss who has been there. Lou Pritchett, a former executive who was instrumental in the creation of the partnership between Procter & Gamble and Wal-Mart, shares decades of hands-on experience in company leadership, training, and organizational development in order to mentor others with snippets of wisdom and universal truth not found in cyberspace. Future leaders that include entrepreneurs, educators, executives, administrative assistants, and sales representatives will find inspiration in both Pritchetts wisdom and the seasoned advice of other famous leaders, such as Napoleon Bonaparte, John F. Kennedy, Stonewall Jackson, and Ross Perot. Management is of dollars and things. Leadership is of hearts, souls, and spirits. In What the Internet Cant Teach You, Pritchett allows others to take a step back in time and learn the same way successful leaders have learned for centuriesthrough the wisdom of those who know.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite continuing ageist beliefs that sexuality is a privilege designed only for the young and physically healthy, research continues to indicate that the majority of older adults maintain interest in sexuality and may engage in fulfilling sexual behavior well into their last decade of life. Unfortunately, many professionals remain unaware of general knowledge of elderly sexuality, including the expected and normal physiological changes that can occur within the context of both male and female aging. The presence of chronic illness and other medical problems certainly can influence the expression of an aging adult’s sexuality, and emergent research suggests that there are effective ways to cope with menopause, heart disease, arthritis, incontinence, diabetes, sleep disorders, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and erectile dysfunction (ED), among others. Dramatic changes have taken place within the last decade alone in terms of non-surgical treatment for incontinence and ED, with forms of sex therapy, biofeedback, and PDE-5 inhibitors. Regrettably, many aging adults and their care providers remain unaware of their increased risk factors for STDs, including HIV infection via lack of knowledge, changes in the vaginal lining, and typical declines in immune function. Estimates suggest that by the year 2020, more than half of all individuals living with HIV will be over the age of 50. Although some high quality professional books are available for clinicians, they tend to be disjointed research bibliographies, edited volumes on a narrowly focused aspect of elderly sexuality, or texts that are more than 10 years old. With the extent of new information available regarding sexuality and aging, an up to date, empirically based text is necessary.

Gadgets such as cell phones, portable computers, and electronic diaries accompany us throughout the day. But is this a good thing? Are we being served by these technological wonders, or have we become enslaved by them? Does constant availability via technology make us more efficient or more stressed? Is our ability to connect with others all over the world, day or night, making us more sociable or turning us into recluses in a virtual world? This book considers the impact of technology on the different spheres of our life - work, home, family and leisure - and assesses ways in which to build better communication between technology developers and society to ensure that technology enhances our lives and psychological well-being, rather than damaging them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER! Though we talk about wanting to "age gracefully," the truth is that when it comes to getting older, we’re programmed to dread an inevitable decline: in our health, our looks, our sexual relationships, even the pleasure we take in living life. But as Christiane Northrup, M.D., shows us in this profoundly empowering book, we have it in us to make growing older an entirely different experience, both for our bodies and for our souls. In chapters that blend personal stories and practical exercises with the latest research on health and aging, Dr. Northrup lays out the principles of ageless living, from rejecting processed foods to releasing stuck emotions, from embracing our sensuality to connecting deeply with our Divine Source. Explaining that the state of our health is dictated far more by our beliefs than by our biology, she works to shift our perceptions about getting older and show us what we are entitled to expect from our later years—no matter what our culture tries to teach us to the contrary—including: · Vibrant good health · A fulfilling sex life · The capacity to love without losing ourselves · The ability to move our bodies with ease and pleasure · Clarity and authenticity in all our relationships—especially the one we have with ourselves "Taking all the right supplements and pills, or getting the right procedure done, isn’t the prescription for anti-aging," Dr. Northrup explains. "Agelessness is all about vitality, the creative force that gives birth to new life." Goddesses Never Age is filled with tools and inspiration for bringing vitality and vibrancy into your own ageless years—and it all comes together in Dr. Northrup’s 14-day Ageless Goddess Program, your personal prescription for creating a healthful, soulful, joyful new way of being at any stage of life.

Book excerpt: "There are so many secrets packed in here, I have to wonder if the Illuminati will have this author assassinated" - Derrick Mennings, Marxist Internet Weekly Digest Written by an engineering expert with comprehensive knowledge of SEO marketing, computers, and the best Belgian beers to drink with them. Preview the book to enter enlightenment. Give Me A Couple Of Hours And I'll Turn You Into An Internet Wizard! There are other internet secrets books and they work as excellent paperweights and have some therapeutic benefits, too: you can use them to put you to sleep. This book is not to be equated with all those boring-as-all-hell books with dubious internet insights and SEO tips. Trust us: what you know about the internet isn't as much as you think you know. Beyond the basics, how clued in are you really about the internet? You probably know more about Bangladesh (which ain't much, right?) than you do about web development, link building, and search engine optimization. The internet may play an integral role in our lives, yet in informal testing, close to 92% of internet users scored no more than basic competence with it. Less than 16% had any legitimate knowledge of SEO marketing. I can hear you from here: "Basic competence is good enough for me. Why would I want or need to do more than that?" You can use the Google or Bing search engine (but lazily, not with any genuine optimization), get around the Gmail and Hotmail interfaces, buy an airline ticket at Expedia, order a book at Amazon, and post an update at Facebook. Is that mastery when anyone can do that? Complacency never does anyone any favors. If the complacent had won out, we'd still believe the world is flat and airplane flight is impossible. Do you really need to be told that the internet is one of those things you cannot afford to be complacent about? Your livelihood, your identity, your social networks, your ability to distinguish yourself from the competition will all one day be measured by the breadth and depth of your internet skills. Development of the web hasn't stood still. Should your skills? Every single one of these internet secrets will shoot your internet productivity into the stratosphere and leave you head and shoulders above your peers. We're not naive to think you don't know any of these secrets, but we're confident you don't know about most of them. Any of these 100+ internet insights will more than make up for the book's cost * Keep your computer and other devices protected: the best anti-virus & malware tools internet tools you should install to keep your computer, mobile phone, and tablet from being crippled. * Set up sharable internet networks wherever you happen to be, like standing in front of Buckingham Palace. * Start building your favorite link bookmarks across all internet browsers and platforms. * Avoid internet scams. * Download and view internet videos offline. Video streaming sucks bandwidth from your 4G plan. * Keep your identity safe. * Transfer large files. * Set up online music libraries so you can listen to your music anywhere, anytime. * Shop on the internet for the absolute best prices. * View web sites optimally on any device. * Remember your passwords for any site and situation. * And much, much more. Some of these internet secrets you could discover if you knew where to look, but it would take you months to collect the same knowledge you'll find here. Other internet tools we've picked up from years of experience. You won't find those gems anywhere else. Dump your other SEO books and for-idiots web development guides. You will not find another internet book this practical or enjoyable for any price. The new internet isn't going anywhere, but you should. Let's get going, with us as your guide along this infinitely more diverse Information Superhighway.

Book excerpt: This book discusses the topic of 'weblogs and libraries' from two main perspectives: weblogs as sources of information for libraries and librarians; and weblogs as tools that libraries can use to promote their services and to provide a means of communication with their clients. It begins with an overview of the whole weblog and blogging phenomenon. The many different kinds of weblogs are outlined (including personal weblogs, community weblogs, multimedia weblogs). The problem of locating weblogs is addressed through a discussion of weblog directories, search engines and other finding tools. Chapters include using weblogs as sources of information in the library or information service, the options for creating a weblog, and managing the library's own weblog. - No other book currently available specifically addresses this highly topical subject - Weblogs are becoming more important as sources of up-to-date information on many different topics, and so librarians need to be aware of these resources, how they are created and by whom - Weblogs are already important as sources of news and current professional information in the field of library and information science; this book helps librarians to become familiar with the best weblogs in this field
