Book Synopsis Affine Representations of Grothendieck Groups and Applications to Rickart $C^\ast $-Algebras and $\aleph _0$-Continuous Regular Rings by : K. R. Goodearl
Download or read book Affine Representations of Grothendieck Groups and Applications to Rickart $C^\ast $-Algebras and $\aleph _0$-Continuous Regular Rings written by K. R. Goodearl and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1980 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper is concerned with the structure of three interrelated classes of objects: partially ordered abelian groups with countable interpolation, [Hebrew]Aleph0-continuous regular rings, and finite Rickart C*-algebras. The connection from these rings and algebras to these groups is the Grothendieck group K0, which, for all [Hebrew]Aleph0-continuous regular rings and most finite Rickart C*-algebras, is a partially ordered abelian group with countable interpolation. Such partially ordered groups are shown to possess quite specific representations in spaces of affine continuous functions on Choquet simplices. The theme of this paper is to develop the structure theory of these groups and these representations, and to translate the results, via K0, into properties of [Hebrew]Aleph0-continuous regular rings and finite Rickart C*-algebras.

Book Synopsis Graded Rings and Graded Grothendieck Groups by : Roozbeh Hazrat
Download or read book Graded Rings and Graded Grothendieck Groups written by Roozbeh Hazrat and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-05-26 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study of graded rings includes the first systematic account of the graded Grothendieck group, a powerful and crucial invariant in algebra which has recently been adopted to classify the Leavitt path algebras. The book begins with a concise introduction to the theory of graded rings and then focuses in more detail on Grothendieck groups, Morita theory, Picard groups and K-theory. The author extends known results in the ungraded case to the graded setting and gathers together important results which are currently scattered throughout the literature. The book is suitable for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, as well as researchers in ring theory.

Book Synopsis Affine Sets and Affine Groups by : D. G. Northcott
Download or read book Affine Sets and Affine Groups written by D. G. Northcott and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1980-05-08 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In these notes, first published in 1980, Professor Northcott provides a self-contained introduction to the theory of affine algebraic groups for mathematicians with a basic knowledge of communicative algebra and field theory. The book divides into two parts. The first four chapters contain all the geometry needed for the second half of the book which deals with affine groups. Alternatively the first part provides a sure introduction to the foundations of algebraic geometry. Any affine group has an associated Lie algebra. In the last two chapters, the author studies these algebras and shows how, in certain important cases, their properties can be transferred back to the groups from which they arose. These notes provide a clear and carefully written introduction to algebraic geometry and algebraic groups.

Book Synopsis Two-Dimensional Tame and Maximal Orders of Finite Representation Type by : Idun Reiten
Download or read book Two-Dimensional Tame and Maximal Orders of Finite Representation Type written by Idun Reiten and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1989 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper gives a classification of the tame [italic]R-orders of finite representation type in terms of their Auslander-Reiten quivers. Up to reflexive Morita equivalence one can reduce to the case of a tame order of global dimension two. Using covering theory methods, the classification is done by classifying graded orders of global dimension two, and then an interpretation of [capital Greek]Lambda as a skew group ring shows that [capital Greek]Lambda is the completion of its associated graded order.

Book excerpt: This volume contains 19 articles written by speakers at the Advanced Study Institute on 'Modular representations and subgroup structure of al gebraic groups and related finite groups' held at the Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge from 23rd June to 4th July 1997. We acknowledge with gratitude the financial support given by the NATO Science Committee to enable this ASI to take place. Generous financial support was also provided by the European Union. We are also pleased to acknowledge funds given by EPSRC to the Newton Institute which were used to support the meeting. It is a pleasure to thank the Director of the Isaac Newton Institute, Professor Keith Moffatt, and the staff of the Institute for their dedicated work which did so much to further the success of the meeting. The editors wish to thank Dr. Ross Lawther and Dr. Nick Inglis most warmly for their help in the production of this volume. Dr. Lawther in particular made an invaluable contribution in preparing the volume for submission to the publishers. Finally we wish to thank the distinguished speakers at the ASI who agreed to write articles for this volume based on their lectures at the meet ing. We hope that the volume will stimulate further significant advances in the theory of algebraic groups.

This book was released on 1991-04-26 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors aim to treat the basic theory of representations of finite groups of Lie type, such as linear, unitary, orthogonal and symplectic groups. They emphasize the Curtis-Alvis duality map and Mackey's theorem and the results that can be deduced from it. They also discuss Deligne-Lusztig induction. This will be the first elementary treatment of this material in book form and will be welcomed by beginning graduate students in algebra.
