Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Protecting his master from intruders, whether rodent or human, was priority number one for this monkey-faced urchin developed in southern Germany during the 19th century. Classified as a "Toy Dog" throughout the world, the Affenpinscher is indeed part terrier and part watchdog, even though his role as a house pet has been his main stead in life for generations. Blessed with independence of mind and a most amusing take on the world around him, the Affenpinscher proves to be a perfect choice for the owner who is seeking a bright, intuitive and comic companion animal. Written by top Affenpinscher breeder and handler Jerome Cushman of the famous Hilane kennels in New York, this Special Limited Edition covers the history of the breed in Europe and details the development of the breed in the US. This book also discusses the breed's characteristics and the requirements of the right owner for an Affenpinscher. The author shares his insight into the breed standard as well as the proper selection of a breeder and puppy. New owners will welcome the chapters on house-training and obedience commands, plus the sections on grooming, feeding, home safety and much more. A special chapter on preventive healthcare, written by renowned veterinarian Dr. Lowell Ackerman, provides up-to-date, accurate information on inoculations, parasites, spaying/neutering and more.

This book was released on 2015-03-19 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book (Affenpinscher) provides you with a through description and positive attributes of this breed including origin, purpose, history, normal heights and weights, acceptable colors and behavioral traits. Our books differ from most books on dog breeds because this book also provides you with a comprehensive and authoritative source of all the known predisposed hereditary health syndromes for the breed. You will find extensive references for each problem described. We also provide the breed club address for this breed and a list of laboratories and organizations that can provide professional help and information. As a small animal veterinarian, I have always been intrigued by the way dogs have been bred to fill a purpose in life and further impressed that they also tend to love performing that service. Greyhounds and other sight hounds are built for speed with aerodynamic bodies consisting of small head, deep chest, narrow waist and large leg muscles. On the other hand Dachshunds take their name from German words meaning badger dog and they use their long nose, long body and short legs to both track, enter and dig into badger dens. After developing a practice that catered to clients with show dogs, my interest in each breed continued to grow as I studied and observed more and more about the unique predisposition and incidence of health problems in each breed. Breeders of purebred dogs for show were a challenge and inspirational for me to research and help them with their unique health problems. Historically references to hereditary problems are scattered throughout various Veterinary medical texts and journals such as ophthalmology, neurology, gastroenterology, cardiovascular and dermatology. This book, as well as the other books and articles I have written, is researched and compiled with the intention to provide both veterinarians and dog owners with comprehensive and authoritative predisposition information under the breed name. At the date of this publication, The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation and the The Kennel Club of England reports over 400 known hereditary health syndromes throughout the dog kingdom. At the writing of my first book in 1983, less than 50 hereditary issues are able to be predicted and or diagnosed. Sequencing of the canine genome, DNA tests, metabolic testing including blood tests and urine testing; plus, phenotypic examinations such as radiographs, ultrasound, and CERF or OFA eye registry exams by a Board Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist have advanced the science of breed related health and behavioral problems. This book will provide veterinarians, researchers, pet owners and breeders with a comprehensive guide to all the known problems veterinarians and dog owners should consider during pet selection and throughout each life stage of our canine friends.

This book was released on 2019-03-11 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Affenpinscher is a small 'toy breed' of terrier like dog. Despite their appearance being similar to terriers, the Affenpinscher is actually part of the 'Pinscher-Schnauzer' grouping of dogs. The breed originates from Germany and is thought to have been developed during the 17th century. The Affenpinscher is also commonly known as the 'Monkey Terrier, ' due to the fact that the name is derived from the German word 'Affe' which means 'ape' or 'monkey.' The breed was created for the purpose of hunting rats and other small rodents in kitchens, stables and granaries. The breed as a whole is active, adventurous, curious, playful and loyal. Affenpinschers relish spending time with their family unit and get along very well with children and other animals. It is important to note that due to their small size, the Affenpinscher may not be a suitable pet for families with small children due to the fact that they may drop, or accidentally injury, the dog. Before purchasing any pet it is important to understand that as a pet owner you are responsible for the care and wellbeing of your pet. It is important to try and learn as much as you can about the animal you are considering to keep as a pet to make sure that your lifestyle, household and financial status are suited to provide your pet with the best possible care. This guide has been designed to provide you with both precise and concise information about a Affenpinscher's basic needs to help you provide your pet with the best quality care practices. This guide will give an in-depth explanation on training your Affenpinscher, raising your Affenpinscher from a puppy, grooming, health care and everything in between! "The Affenpinscher: A Complete and Comprehensive Beginners Guide to: Buying, Owning, Health, Grooming, Training, Obedience, Understanding and Caring for Your Affenpinscher," by Michael Stonewood, is the perfect purchase or gift for a first time Affenpinscher owner. This guide includes sections on caring for a puppy, breeding, health care, training, the basic cost of owning an Affenpinscher and much more. This book is the second edition - the first edition was published by 'Dog Care Professionals.'

Their shaggy eyebrows, mustache, and beard give them a look evocative to an ape, leading to the nickname "Monkey Dog." It is widely accepted that the Affenpinscher has its roots in Germany, where it was first developed to rid homes and stables of rodents. They are a little breed, with an average size of 6-13 pounds and a height of 9-11 inches. Affenpinschers are recognized for their bravery and persistence despite their diminutive stature. Training them can be difficult at times due to their intelligence and independence. With time and effort, though, they can be molded into devoted companions. Although Affenpinschers are known for their boundless energy and playful nature, they also appreciate quiet time at home. They form strong bonds with their human families and are known for their loyalty and sweetness. They get along fine with other animals and kids, but may be apprehensive of unknown people. Affenpinscher is a rare and endearing breed that, in the proper hands, can be a wonderful pet.

Book excerpt: In what promises to become an "Omnivore's Dilemma" for dog lovers—breed devotees and adoption advocates alike—The Dog Merchants is the first book to explain the complex and often surprisingly similar business practices that extend from the American Kennel Club to local shelters, from Westminster champions to dog auctions.Without judging dog lovers of any stripe, The Dog Merchants makes it clear that money spent among these dog merchants has real-world effects on people and canines. Kavin reveals how dog merchants create markets for dogs, often in defiance of the usual rules of supply and demand. She takes an investigative approach and meets breeders and rescuers at all levels, shedding much-needed light on an industry that most people don't even realize is an industry.Kavin’s goal is to advance the conversation about how all dogs are treated, from puppy mills to high-kill shelters. She shows that a great deal can be improved by understanding the business practices behind selling dogs of all kinds. Instead of pitting rescue and purebred people against each other, The Dog Merchants shows how all dog lovers can come together, with one voice as consumers, on behalf of all our beloved companions.
