Book excerpt: Experimental aerodynamic investigations were conducted for several wraparound fins and one planar fin configuration on bodies of revolution at Mach number ranging from 0.3 to 1.3 and angles of attack from -6 degrees to 6 degrees at 0 degrees at sideslip angle. Six component aerodynamic forces and moments were recorded on the complete missile configuration while simultaneously measuring the aerodynamic normal force and bending moments acting on each fin. The fin configuration parameters varied include chord length, fin thickness, leading edge configuration, tip chord geometry and body, root chord gap. The report presents the plotted coefficient data in two volumes. Volume I contains the complete missile aerodynamic data. Volume 2 contains the individual fin aerodynamic data.

Download or read book Missile Aerodynamics written by Jack Norman Nielsen and published by AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics). This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The similarities between the airplane and the missile extend beyond their flying capabilities, and at higher operational speeds, the configuration distinctions become even less apparent. " Missile Aerodynamics," a classic now available from AIAA and Nielsen Engineering and Research, Inc., combines the best of missile and airplane aerodynamics, drawing extensively from numerous technical papers to present a rational and unified account of the principles behind missile projection. Evaluate the missile versus the airplane in a multitude of areas, from longitudinal acceleration, wing loading, roll and dynamic stability, guidance and navigation, and more. J.N. Nielsen covers every aspect of missile aerodynamics, from the classification of missiles and basic formulas to innovative aerodynamic controls. In one reliable reference, readers will find hundreds of schematics, equations, and tables with practical applications in missile design and engineering. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Since its earliest days, flight has been about pushing the limits of technology and, in many cases, pushing the limits of human endurance. The human body can be the limiting factor in the design of aircraft and spacecraft. Humans cannot survive unaided at high altitudes. There have been a number of books written on the subject of spacesuits, but the literature on the high-altitude pressure suits is lacking. This volume provides a high-level summary of the technological development and operational use of partial- and full-pressure suits, from the earliest models to the current high altitude, full-pressure suits used for modern aviation, as well as those that were used for launch and entry on the Space Shuttle. The goal of this work is to provide a resource on the technology for suits designed to keep humans alive at the edge of space."--NTRS Web site.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Aircraft and Rocket Propulsion by : Ahmed F. El-Sayed
Download or read book Fundamentals of Aircraft and Rocket Propulsion written by Ahmed F. El-Sayed and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-25 with total page 1025 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive basics-to-advanced course in an aero-thermal science vital to the design of engines for either type of craft. The text classifies engines powering aircraft and single/multi-stage rockets, and derives performance parameters for both from basic aerodynamics and thermodynamics laws. Each type of engine is analyzed for optimum performance goals, and mission-appropriate engines selection is explained. Fundamentals of Aircraft and Rocket Propulsion provides information about and analyses of: thermodynamic cycles of shaft engines (piston, turboprop, turboshaft and propfan); jet engines (pulsejet, pulse detonation engine, ramjet, scramjet, turbojet and turbofan); chemical and non-chemical rocket engines; conceptual design of modular rocket engines (combustor, nozzle and turbopumps); and conceptual design of different modules of aero-engines in their design and off-design state. Aimed at graduate and final-year undergraduate students, this textbook provides a thorough grounding in the history and classification of both aircraft and rocket engines, important design features of all the engines detailed, and particular consideration of special aircraft such as unmanned aerial and short/vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. End-of-chapter exercises make this a valuable student resource, and the provision of a downloadable solutions manual will be of further benefit for course instructors.

Book Synopsis Vortex Flows and Related Numerical Methods by : J.T. Beale
Download or read book Vortex Flows and Related Numerical Methods written by J.T. Beale and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many important phenomena in fluid motion are evident in vortex flow, i.e., flows in which vortical structures are significant in determining the whole flow. This book, which consists of lectures given at a NATO ARW held in Grenoble (France) in June 1992, provides an up-to-date account of current research in the study of these phenomena by means of numerical methods and mathematical modelling. Such methods include Eulerian methods (finite difference, spectral and wavelet methods) as well as Lagrangian methods (contour dynamics, vortex methods) and are used to study such topics as 2- or 3-dimensional turbulence, vorticity generation by solid bodies, shear layers and vortex sheets, and vortex reconnection. For researchers and graduate students in computational fluid dynamics, numerical analysis, and applied mathematics.
