Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over Sixty Years of Tales of Fun, Folly, Friendship, Faith, and Fishing We are recording our adventures in this little book with heavy hearts. Due to the many issues that accompany the aging process, we may be closing a very important chapter in our lives. But this will not keep us from continuing to share our experiences, our tales. It all started like a Mark Twain novel, but the Tom Sawyers and Huckleberry Finns in our stories have never grown up. Though we all have now passed the seventy-year marker, we are still just boys at heart. Our enthusiasm and passion for adventure have not waned one iota. We view this little volume as more than a fishing storybook; it is our testimony to one of Gods greatest gifts: the capacity for brotherly love. And fishermen may be inherently gifted in this regard. Remember Jesus called several fishermen to be his disciple buddies, and they shared many stories with us. Catching fish is just icing on the cake. Men by nature can be tough, demanding, competitive, and even self-centered. But we have found that time away together sharing, encouraging, eating, drinking cough medicine, and oh yes, fishing results in a special bond. You see the cake is the pure joy and blessing of being part of a band of brothers. We have a parting tradition each time we leave the country; we give each other a bear hug and say, I love you, brother!

Find the wonder of the outdoors in Northern Minnesota were the last of the original, old pine trees remain from before the days of logging and a Viking relic which could be the first fishing story carved in stone. Equipment, baits, lures all playing an integral part to fishing are part of the stories too. Through these stories Mike explores the many sides of fishing from good luck to bad luck, small and big fish and sometimes few fish. There is much more to fishing than just catching fish as Mike explores new and old lakes, good weather and bad, memories of old friends now gone and young fisher people who are just beginning to find the love of angling. Spend a day on the water with Mike and his fishing buddies, young and old, and experience the passion and excitement which comes with fishing and what makes it so special. “Mike Yurk is a seasoned angler and author who has filled his stringer with stores on water near and far. Pull up a seat and let him share his tales in Notes From The Dockside one pleasing nugget at a time.” Paul Smith, Outdoor Editor, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

It is an impassioned and inspiring account of experiences and lessons that an eighty year old grandfather shares with his grandchildren. Their ages range from early teens to early thirties. It focuses on living that is abundant and eternal. It explores the rapid changes that are occurring in our culture and offers answers for many of life’s questions facing today’s youth and young adults. The author points out that we often live in different worlds that foster conflict and dysfunction in our society. He proposes remedies though his version of the “ABCs of Life” and “Will and Testimony” which are instructive for facing important life-decisions. Before publishing, Bernie (Pappy) reviewed the concept of this effort with each of his grandchildren – they all expressed enthusiastic interest and excitement and want the first copies to be theirs. He states that this is probably his last effort at book writing and comes close to being his spiritual autobiography.

Book Synopsis Encyclopedia of American Short Films, 1926-1959 by : Graham Webb
Download or read book Encyclopedia of American Short Films, 1926-1959 written by Graham Webb and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2020-07-10 with total page 735 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Short subject films have a long history in American cinemas. These could be anywhere from 2 to 40 minutes long and were used as a "filler" in a picture show that would include a cartoon, a newsreel, possibly a serial and a short before launching into the feature film. Shorts could tackle any topic of interest: an unusual travelogue, a comedy, musical revues, sports, nature or popular vaudeville acts. With the advent of sound-on-film in the mid-to-late 1920s, makers of earlier silent short subjects began experimenting with the short films, using them as a testing ground for the use of sound in feature movies. After the Second World War, and the rising popularity of television, short subject films became far too expensive to produce and they had mostly disappeared from the screens by the late 1950s. This encyclopedia offers comprehensive listings of American short subject films from the 1920s through the 1950s.
