Book Synopsis Mechanics of Advanced Materials by : Vadim V. Silberschmidt
Download or read book Mechanics of Advanced Materials written by Vadim V. Silberschmidt and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-09 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents interesting examples of recent developments in this area. Among the studied materials are bulk metallic glasses, metamaterials, special composites, piezoelectric smart structures, nonwovens, etc. The last decades have seen a large extension of types of materials employed in various applications. In many cases these materials demonstrate mechanical properties and performance that vary significantly from those of their traditional counterparts. Such uniqueness is sought – or even specially manufactured – to meet increased requirements on modern components and structures related to their specific use. As a result, mechanical behaviors of these materials under different loading and environmental conditions are outside the boundaries of traditional mechanics of materials, presupposing development of new characterization techniques, theoretical descriptions and numerical tools. The book presents interesting examples of recent developments in this area. Among the studied materials are bulk metallic glasses, metamaterials, special composites, piezoelectric smart structures, nonwovens, etc.

Book Synopsis Materials Science and Engineering by : National Research Council
Download or read book Materials Science and Engineering written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-01-16 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials are the foundation and fabric of manufactured products. In fact, many leading commercial products and military systems could not exist without advanced materials and many of the new products critical to the nation's continued prosperity will come only through the development and commercialization of new materials. Thus, the field of materials science and engineering (MS&E) affects quality of life, industrial competitiveness, and the global environment. The United States leads the world in materials research and development, but does not have as impressive a record in the commercialization of new materials. This book explores the relationships among the producers and users of materials and examines the processes of innovationâ€"from the generation of knowledge to the ultimate integration of a material into a useful product. The authors recommend ways to accelerate the rate at which new ideas are integrated into finished products. Real-life case studies provide an accurate depiction of the processes that take materials and process innovations from the laboratory, to the factory floor, and ultimately to the consumer, drawing on experiences with three distinctive MS&E applicationsâ€"advanced aircraft turbines, automobiles, and computer chips and information-storage devices.
Book Synopsis Commercialization of New Materials for a Global Economy by : National Research Council
Download or read book Commercialization of New Materials for a Global Economy written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1993-02-01 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials are important in the pursuit of virtually every human endeavor. Advances in materials are applied not only in advanced technological systems such as spacecraft, jet engines, computers, and telecommunications but also in a world of more familiar applications from automobiles to floor coverings to fishing rods. This book addresses the factors that impede the transition of new materials from concepts into commercial use. It identifies policies and actions that government and industry, together with universities, can take to remove these impediments. Incentives to accelerate the commercialization of advanced materials are suggested, and recommendations are presented on ways to stimulate competitive commercialization of materials by government, industry, and academia.
Book Synopsis Mechanical Behavior of Advanced Materials: Modeling and Simulation by : Qihong Fang
Download or read book Mechanical Behavior of Advanced Materials: Modeling and Simulation written by Qihong Fang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the recent developments in the field of advanced materials, there exists a need for a systematic summary and detailed introduction of the modeling and simulation methods for these materials. This book provides a comprehensive description of the mechanical behavior of advanced materials using modeling and simulation. It includes materials such as high-entropy alloys, high-entropy amorphous alloys, nickel-based superalloys, light alloys, electrode materials, and nanostructured reinforced composites. Reviews the performance and application of a variety of advanced materials and provides the detailed theoretical modeling and simulation of mechanical properties Covers the topics of deformation, fracture, diffusion, and fatigue Features worked examples and exercises that help readers test their understanding This book is aimed at researchers and advanced students in solid mechanics, material science, engineering, material chemistry, and those studying the mechanics of materials.
Book Synopsis Fire- and Smoke-Resistant Interior Materials for Commercial Transport Aircraft by : National Research Council
Download or read book Fire- and Smoke-Resistant Interior Materials for Commercial Transport Aircraft written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1996-02-19 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two principal objectives of this book were (1) to identify promising materials technologies, design issues (both overall and for individual components), and fire performance parameters (both full scale and for individual components) that, if properly optimized, would lead to improved fire and smoke resistance of materials and components used in aircraft interiors; and (2) to identify long-range research directions that hold the most promise for producing predictive modeling capability, new advanced materials, and the required product development to achieve totally fire-resistant interiors in future aircrafts. The emphasis of the study is on long-term innovation leading to impacts on fire worthiness of aircraft interiors ten to twenty years hence.
