This book was released on 2015-02-18 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adhesive dentistry has evolved rapidly. There are two main incentives that have driven this revolution. First- is the want and need of the patient. They desire not only functionally and anatomically sound restorations, but also esthetically pleasing ones. Second- from our perspective, the need of the hour is 'minimally invasive' or 'minimum intervention' care. This means that only the lost and diseased tooth tissue is replaced by the restorative material that is directly bonded to the remaining sound tissue. Another school of thought is 'maintenance and repair' rather than replacing entire restorations (exhibiting marginal discoloration and/ or defects) and this has further boosted the use of adhesive technology in diverse applications of everyday clinical practice. Little did Buonocore appreciate the impact of his discovery on the quality of dental care more than 50 years later.

This book was released on 2017-06-23 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only book to cover adhesion in pharmaceutical, biomedical and dental fields The phenomenon of adhesion is of cardinal importance in the pharmaceutical, biomedical and dental fields. A few eclectic examples will suffice to underscore the importance/relevance of adhesion in these three areas. For example, the adhesion between powdered solids is of crucial importance in tablet manufacture. The interaction between biodevices (e.g., stents, bio-implants) and body environment dictates the performance of such devices, and there is burgeoning research activity in modifying the surfaces of such implements to render them compatible with bodily components. In the field of dentistry, the modern trend is to shift from retaining of restorative materials by mechanical interlocking to adhesive bonding. The book contains 15 chapters written by internationally-renowned subject matter experts and is divided into four parts: Part 1: General Topics; Part 2: Adhesion in Pharmaceutical Field; Part 3: Adhesion in Biomedical Field; and Part 4: Adhesion in Dental Field. The topics covered include: Theories or mechanisms of adhesion; wettability of powders; role of surface free energy in tablet strength and powder flow behavior; mucoadhesive polymers for drug delivery systems; transdermal patches; skin adhesion in long-wear cosmetics; factors affecting microbial adhesion; biofouling and ways to mitigate it; adhesion of coatings on surgical tools and bio-implants; adhesion in fabrication of microarrays in clinical diagnostics; antibacterial polymers for dental adhesives and composites; evolution of dental adhesives; and testing of dental adhesive joints.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While adhesive techniques have already penetrated almost all fields of dentistry, a gap remains between accepted treatment modes and what is carried out in daily practice. This book, a compilation of the proceedings from the 3rd European Symposium on Adhesive Dentistry, provides the information, arguments, and data that clinicians need to incorporate adhesive dentistry into their daily practice. Leaders in the field present the rationale for adhesive techniques in esthetic restorative dentistry. Minimally invasive dentistry and specific issues faced by clinicians using adhesive techniques with ceramic and resin composite restorations are also discussed. Finally, two concluding chapters remind clinicians that they are dentists operating in a biologic system with the objective to restore patients' health.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the material of the artifact? What are the characteristics of the substrates? Is it possible to adequately isolate the tooth? It is fundamental to answer these questions when performing the assessment before beginning the final and decisive phase of prosthetic restoration: cementation. Cementation is a complex procedure that requires good skills, and its outcome depends on the knowledge of the substrates involved and the choice of the most suitable cement for the specific situation. The materials and techniques used for cementation are described in this text, which is specifically dedicated to prosthetists and to those who practice conservative dentistry. This manual examines each substrate and defines the cementation protocols for all cases in daily practice.

Repair of fractured teeth can be carried out using the fractured tooth fragments there by maintaining original aesthetics. The continued developments of adhesive materials are now focused on gaining a better understanding of factors affecting adhesion in the oral environment to improve the clinical longevity of restorative materials.
Book Synopsis Adhesion in Restorative Dentistry by : Alexandra Vinagre
Download or read book Adhesion in Restorative Dentistry written by Alexandra Vinagre and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bonding agents play a crucial role in the effective sealing and retention of resin-based composite restorations, which have been increasingly placed and replaced by dentists in many countries around the world. In fact, direct adhesive restoration with composite resins has become the procedure of choice for the treatment of anterior and posterior teeth. However, long-term durability of those restorations may be compromised due to progressive loss of the integrity of adhesive interfaces. This means that no adhesive strategy is free from technique sensitivity. The specificity and proportion of different constitutive molecules, the interaction between them and substrates can differ greatly from one class of adhesive system to another, which can affect bond quality. Protocol simplification has been an inevitable trend that has boosted the use of self-etching and universal systems in adhesive dentistry. However, there is a lack of randomized clinical trials to prove the effectiveness of these systems. This chapter gives an overview of the most important issues in dental adhesion and adhesive systems, as well, discussing their composition and clinical use.
