Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph demonstrates how the performance of various well-known adaptive controllers can be improved significantly using the dual effect. The modifications to incorporate dual control are realized separately and independently of the main adaptive controller without complicating the algorithms. A new bicriterial approach for dual control is developed and applied to various types of popular linear and nonlinear adaptive controllers. Practical applications of the designed controllers to several real-time problems are presented. This monograph is the first book providing a complete exposition on the dual control problem from the inception in the early 1960s to the present state of the art aiming at students and researchers in adaptive control as well as design engineers in industry.

This book was released on 2007-12-06 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors here provide a detailed treatment of the design of robust adaptive controllers for nonlinear systems with uncertainties. They employ a new tool based on the ideas of system immersion and manifold invariance. New algorithms are delivered for the construction of robust asymptotically-stabilizing and adaptive control laws for nonlinear systems. The methods proposed lead to modular schemes that are easier to tune than their counterparts obtained from Lyapunov redesign.

Book excerpt: Since its origins in the 1940s, the subject of decision making under uncertainty has grown into a diversified area with application in several branches of engineering and in those areas of the social sciences concerned with policy analysis and prescription. These approaches required a computing capacity too expensive for the time, until the ability to collect and process huge quantities of data engendered an explosion of work in the area. This book provides succinct and rigorous treatment of the foundations of stochastic control; a unified approach to filtering, estimation, prediction, and stochastic and adaptive control; and the conceptual framework necessary to understand current trends in stochastic control, data mining, machine learning, and robotics.

This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design of an actively adaptive dual controller based on an approximation of the stochastic dynamic programming equation for a multi-step horizon is presented. A dual controller that can enhance identification of the system while controlling it at the same time is derived for multi-dimensional problems. This dual controller uses sensitivity functions of the expected future cost with respect to the parameter uncertainties. A passively adaptive cautious controller and the actively adaptive dual controller are examined. In many instances, the cautious controller is seen to turn off while the latter avoids the turn-off of the control and the slow convergence of the parameter estimates, characteristic of the cautious controller. The algorithms have been applied to a multi-variable static model which represents a simplified linear version of the relationship between the vibration output and the higher harmonic control input for a helicopter. Monte Carlo comparisons based on parametric and nonparametric statistical analysis indicate the superiority of the dual controller over the baseline controller. Book Synopsis Adaptive Dynamic Programming: Single and Multiple Controllers by : Ruizhuo Song
Download or read book Adaptive Dynamic Programming: Single and Multiple Controllers written by Ruizhuo Song and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-28 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a class of novel optimal control methods and games schemes based on adaptive dynamic programming techniques. For systems with one control input, the ADP-based optimal control is designed for different objectives, while for systems with multi-players, the optimal control inputs are proposed based on games. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods, the book analyzes the properties of the adaptive dynamic programming methods, including convergence of the iterative value functions and the stability of the system under the iterative control laws. Further, to substantiate the mathematical analysis, it presents various application examples, which provide reference to real-world practices.
Book Synopsis Adaptive Dynamic Programming with Applications in Optimal Control by : Derong Liu
Download or read book Adaptive Dynamic Programming with Applications in Optimal Control written by Derong Liu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-04 with total page 609 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the most recent developments in adaptive dynamic programming (ADP). The text begins with a thorough background review of ADP making sure that readers are sufficiently familiar with the fundamentals. In the core of the book, the authors address first discrete- and then continuous-time systems. Coverage of discrete-time systems starts with a more general form of value iteration to demonstrate its convergence, optimality, and stability with complete and thorough theoretical analysis. A more realistic form of value iteration is studied where value function approximations are assumed to have finite errors. Adaptive Dynamic Programming also details another avenue of the ADP approach: policy iteration. Both basic and generalized forms of policy-iteration-based ADP are studied with complete and thorough theoretical analysis in terms of convergence, optimality, stability, and error bounds. Among continuous-time systems, the control of affine and nonaffine nonlinear systems is studied using the ADP approach which is then extended to other branches of control theory including decentralized control, robust and guaranteed cost control, and game theory. In the last part of the book the real-world significance of ADP theory is presented, focusing on three application examples developed from the authors’ work: • renewable energy scheduling for smart power grids;• coal gasification processes; and• water–gas shift reactions. Researchers studying intelligent control methods and practitioners looking to apply them in the chemical-process and power-supply industries will find much to interest them in this thorough treatment of an advanced approach to control.
Book Synopsis Dual Adaptive Control Based Upon Sensitivity Functions by : J. A. Molusis
Download or read book Dual Adaptive Control Based Upon Sensitivity Functions written by J. A. Molusis and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new adaptive dual control solution is presented for the control of a class of multivariable input-output systems. Both rapidly varying random parameters and constant but unknown parameters are included. The new controller modifies the cautious control design by numerator and denominator correction terms. This controller is shown to depend upon sensitivity functions of the expected future cost. A scalar example is presented to provide insight into the properties of the new dual controller. Monte-Carlo simulations are performed which show improvement over the cautious controller and the Linear Feedback Dual Controller of two previous publications. (Author).
