Book Synopsis Africa from the Sixteenth to the Eighteenth Century by : Bethwell A. Ogot
Download or read book Africa from the Sixteenth to the Eighteenth Century written by Bethwell A. Ogot and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 1088 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The result of years of work by scholars from all over the world, The UNESCO General History of Africa reflects how the different peoples of Africa view their civilizations and shows the historical relationships between the various parts of the continent. Historical connections with other continents demonstrate Africa's contribution to the development of human civilization. Each volume is lavishly illustrated and contains a comprehensive bibliography. This fifth volume of the acclaimed series covers the history of the continent from the beginning of the sixteenth century to the close of the eighteenth century in which two themes emerge: first, the continuing internal evolution of the states and cultures of Africa during this period second, the increasing involvement of Africa in external trade--with major but unforeseen consequences for the whole world. In North Africa, we see the Ottomans conquer Egypt. South of the Sahara, some of the larger, older states collapse, and new power bases emerge. Traditional religions continue to coexist with both Christianity (suffering setbacks) and Islam (in the ascendancy). Along the coast, particularly of West Africa, Europeans establish a trading network which, with the development of New World plantation agriculture, becomes the focus of the international slave trade. The immediate consequences of this trade for Africa are explored, and it is argued that the long-term global consequences include the foundation of the present world-economy with all its built-in inequalities.

Book Synopsis From Ally to Enemy by : William I. Shorrock
Download or read book From Ally to Enemy written by William I. Shorrock and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprises essays (with suggested further readings) on a series of topics arranged in alphabetical order (one topic per letter). This somewhat whimsical organization provides a forum for the author's concise and authoritative writing, and his ideas are thought provoking, often unorthodox. Shorrock (history, Cleveland State U.) has done a study that is the first to examine systematically France's relations with fascist Italy between the First and Second World Wars. Thus, as it broadens understanding of the origins of World War II, it also brings into focus those political, economic, and ideological forces that impinge upon the foreign policy process in a democratic nation. Book Synopsis Notes on the Minor Prophets by : H. Ironside
Download or read book Notes on the Minor Prophets written by H. Ironside and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-03-24 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was with no definite purpose of writing a series of Notes on the Minor Prophets as a whole, that I first began to take up various books of the twelve, in monthly installments in HELP AND FOOD FOR THE HOUSEHOLD OF FAITH. But after penning some notes on Habakkuk, Jonah, and Obadiah, I found my own soul helped, and an interest developed in the further study of these much-neglected portions of Scriptures, and so took up Hosea and the books following. I have sought to press their practical application as giving important teaching for a remnant people in a day of decline, while not neglecting their dispensational bearing. This, I am persuaded, is what is greatly needed at the present moment. If God be pleased to use the Notes for the stirring of His people's consciences and the comfort of their hearts, the desired end will be realized. H. A. IRONSIDE.
