God designed marriage between one man and one woman, uniting them in holy matrimony. The two are to come togethe-r as one flesh in a joyous and fulfilling relationship. Marriage is covenant, commitment, and companionship meant for a lifetime. Gloria Ward's insightful sequel to "Eve, Get In Your Place," is a call for Christian husbands to take their rightful leadership positions in the home. It provides biblical principles on the husband's role and responsibility in the marriage. Just as God made marriage, He also established a divine order for the home. God commands that husbands love their wives as Jesus loved the church and gave Himself for it. Wives are to submit unto their husbands as unto the Lord. It is not about the husband being superior. Rather, a husband's authority lies in being an obedient, responsible leader/servant to his family. Submission does not mean that a wife is slave to her husband. Rather, she is submitting to her Lord and obeying His direction for her home. The Bible, the inspired Word of God, gives instructions on how the husband and wife are to treat each other. Since God is the designer, why not try marriage His way before heading to divorce court? God hates divorce. Dr. Ward will help you discover what God has said on the subject of marriage. Knowing God's perspective will help both husband and wife to properly function in what will be a blissful union.

Book excerpt: There is a lot of disorderliness in this age, and there are lot of things taking people's time and attention, and most importantly, there are situations that people have allowed to define them, instead of allowing themselves, to be called what God has called them. Many are living in our world today, who have no understanding of where God has placed them, which will make me bring our attention to some verses of the scripture where God asked certain people questions like, "Where are you?" and "what are you doing here?" Genesis 3:9(NIV); But the Lord God called to the man, "where are you?" 1Kings 19:13(NIV); When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave; Then a voice said to him, " what are you doing here, Elijah?" These two important questions were questions that God asked both Adam and Elijah himself, which is an indication that God had placed them somewhere, but God could not find them at their post or garrison. Often times, God has found many of us guilty of defaulting in our position, and God is asking many of us these same questions today. The above questions implies that he had placed them at a certain position and he doesn't expect them to be found wanton or found operating below the accepted standards that is required of such position. For Adam, God had placed him in a position of authority and dominion, in fact as far as God is concerned Adam is god on the earth, as such he could legislate on behalf of God, and nothing or no creature was to question his authority. But when God came to visit them, it is going to be very easy for us to assume that God was looking for them in the garden, but the question implies much more than that, because such assumptions would be an insult on God's omnipresence. God was simply telling Adam, you are no longer in the exalted position where I have placed you, I am seeing a fallen man. I hope it has occurred to majority of us especially we Christians and the body of Christ in general that we are gradually losing our authority and we have left our rightful place, we are not acting effectively as the salt of the earth. Think about these, we have left governance in the hands of corrupt men, musicians and celebrities are the ones giving us a parameter to define what success is. The so called role models today are people whose lives are haphazard and bizarre. Hence it is important that we understand certain things about our God given positions. Let's consider the meaning of the word position; Genesis 40:13(KJV); yet within three days shall Pharoah lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy PLACE...; (NIV) within three days Pharoah will lift up your head and restore you to your POSITION...; The KJV bible made no express mention of the word position, but the word place as used in Genesis 40:13 can be used as a substitute. This very word is translated as kane in the Hebrew translation and it means base, pedestal, estate and office. Our position is our God given office, and the bible interestingly uses the phrase In Christin many passages of the scripture. Adam lost the kingly and priestly position that God gave him, but Jesus Christ came to restore us to that position. Now the bible call us a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people, a different breed of individuals called forth to show the praise of him that has called us. We have to understand the terminology in Christ in him we have an eternally secure position, because God hath highly exalted him above all powers, kingdoms, thrones, entities, bodies both terrestrial and celestial. Christ Christ means the anointed one, but in a deeper sense, it means the very likeness of God and his possibilities resident in an entity Christ means the fellowship of the Godhead in a man.

Book excerpt: Discover the secret to real, realistic, non-rules-based rest For some of us, resting seems like a waste of time-it means we're missing out on other things. For others, rest seems like a luxury-there's simply too much to do. And for almost all of us, we crave rest, but don't always know how to. This warm, realistic, humorous book shows us the huge spiritual, emotional and physical rewards of rest. It shows us how rest gives us time to spend with God and remember his grace. Discover how rest fuels our joy and confidence in God's sovereignty as we learn to depend on him, and not our own efforts, and are refreshed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Adam Mabry shows us how rest helps us make space for relationships, shared experiences and moments to remember; how it liberates us from the pressure of self-reliance; how it gives us a chance to think and reflect; and how it stops us from burning out. Finally, this book casts a realistic vision for rest that is less rule and more rhythm-less onerous restriction and more liberating art form. Adam Mabry helps us to learn the 'art of rest' with some practical suggestions. The world never stops. But we need to. And as Christians we can by having faith to hit pause and experience the rich rewards of God-given rest.

Book excerpt: Genomic science indicates that humans descend not from an individual pair but from a large population. What does this mean for the basic claim of many Christians: that humans descend from Adam and Eve? Leading evangelical geneticist Dennis Venema and popular New Testament scholar Scot McKnight combine their expertise to offer informed guidance and answers to questions pertaining to evolution, genomic science, and the historical Adam. Some of the questions they explore include: - Is there credible evidence for evolution? - Do we descend from a population or are we the offspring of Adam and Eve? - Does taking the Bible seriously mean rejecting recent genomic science? - How do Genesis's creation stories reflect their ancient Near Eastern context, and how did Judaism understand the Adam and Eve of Genesis? - Doesn't Paul's use of Adam in the New Testament prove that Adam was a historical individual? The authors address up-to-date genomics data with expert commentary from both genetic and theological perspectives, showing that genome research and Scripture are not irreconcilable. Foreword by Tremper Longman III and afterword by Daniel Harrell.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Were the biblical Adam and Eve historical figures, or are the early events described in Genesis primarily symbolic in nature? Behind the debate of a historical Adam is the age-old debate about evolution and the agreement between Scripture and science. With an introduction that outlines the history and main points of every viewpoint from Darwinism to Young Earth Creationism, this book then clearly outlines four primary views on Adam held by evangelical Christians. Contributors include Denis O. Lamoureux, John H. Walton, C. John Collins, and William Barrick. Each focuses his essay on answering the following questions: What is the biblical case for your viewpoint, and how do you reconcile it both with modern science and with passages and potential interpretations that seem to counter it? In what ways is your view more theologically consistent and coherent than other views? What are the implications of your view for the spiritual life and public witness of the church and individual believers, and how is your view a healthier alternative for both? This book allows each contributor to not only present the case for his view, but also to critique and respond to the critiques of the other contributors, allowing you to compare their beliefs in an open forum setting to see where they overlap and where they differ. Concluding reflections by pastor-scholars Gregory A. Boyd and Philip Graham Ryken highlight the significance of the topic in the faith of everyday believers. The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows readers to evaluate the different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.

I imagined myself writing these letters to my own children and struggled, in relation to how we talk about things at church, to say my own piece about what it means to be as a Mormon free, ambitious, repentant, faithful, informed, prayerful, selfless, hungry, chaste, and sealed. The letters do little to benchmark a Mormon orthodoxy. That work belongs to those called to it. Here, my work is personal. I mean only to address the real beauty and real costs of trying to live a Mormon life. And I hope only to show something of what it means to live in a way that refuses to abandon either life or Mormonism.

Book excerpt: Can Christianity and evolution coexist? Traditional Christian teaching presents Jesus as reversing the effects of the fall of Adam. But an evolutionary view of human origins doesn't allow for a literal Adam, making evolution seemingly incompatible with what Genesis and the apostle Paul say about him. For Christians who both accept evolution and want to take the Bible seriously, this can present a faith-shaking tension. Popular Old Testament scholar Peter Enns offers a way forward by explaining how this tension is caused not by the discoveries of science but by false expectations about the biblical texts. In this 10th anniversary edition, Enns updates readers on developments in the historical Adam debate, helping them reconcile Genesis and Paul with current views on evolution and human origins. This edition includes an afterword that explains Enns's own theological evolution since the first edition released.
