When Adam is in the Garden of Eden, eager to learn the skills he sees the animals have, he has Fish and Dog teach him how to swim. Monkey teaches him how to use the vines to swing from tree to tree, and the birds teach Adam how to whistle. Adam’s philosophy is “What is impossible today is possible tomorrow.” Watching the birds fly high into the sky, Adam wants to learn to fly. Find out what Adam learns about flying. The story “Brutus and Patches” is about a Saint Bernard dog, Brutus, who has the run of the house by his owners, Thelma and Bill. When Thelma is given a kitten she names Patches, she becomes angry with Brutus because of his aggressive behavior with Patches. Brutus often loses his house privileges and is upset because Patches scratches his tender nose. Will Brutus and Patches ever learn to get along with each other? “Elvira and the Choir” is a story of fifty-six-year-old Elvira who has suffered a stroke. Because the stroke has left her with childlike behavior, her husband divorces her. She moves to another community where being lonely, she attends church. When she tells the minister she loved hearing the choir sing, the minister invites her to join the choir. George, the leader of the choir, once he hears her loud, raspy voice, doesn’t want Elvira to sing in his choir. How does Elvira win everyone’s hearts, including George’s and the choir members? The story “Debbie’s Angel” is about a young girl who has been an orphan most of her life. Sad because the following day, the much-disliked Mrs. Beamer is going to cut the girls’ hair, Debbie looks out of her window late at night. From the starry heavens, an angel descends. The angel teaches Debbie that true beauty is gained by being kind to others. Can Debbie teach the girls to like Mrs. Beamer? These and the other short stories in the collection are both entertaining and inspiring.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The manuscript of God's "Good Morning" is just what the subtitle claims. It is a retelling of my spiritual journey raising an autistic son who is now fifty-four years old. Our son lives at home with his parents and will do so until my husband Greg and I become incapable of parenting him due to old age or our passing at which time, our son will live with his sister. Thus, this relationship is a lifelong commitment. This manuscript is a story of the growth of faith, hope, and love. My intention of writing such a manuscript is that of my desire to share with other parents of a special needs child my experiences dealing with this daunting challenge. This is not a clinical manuscript, but rather a manuscript of personal growth from shock, despair, and discouragement to acceptance, peace, and joy and reveals the miraculous healing of my broken spirit. Although this manuscript is written for parents of special needs children, it would also be found inspiring by a general audience of readers.

Book excerpt: In this fictionalized account of the authors only sibling, born crippled and with soft bones, many fractures and illnesses cause Rebekah to become her brothers nurse, as Mama has to work because Papa died when the children were young. Jimmy Ray disdained going to doctors and hospitals after failed surgeries to correct his deformities and never told Mama how ill he was one summer with a high fever and sore throat. Rheumatic fever left him with a heart murmur discovered years later. When he marries sickly Betty Lou and has a son, he assumes the burdens of housework and baby care. He has worked in the refrigeration room of a dairy for 25 years before it closes, causing his heart to enlarge. Freezing temperatures plus rheumatic fever contributes to severe mitral valve prolapse. Realizing his chances are slim, he consents to surgery even though his white blood count is extremely low. The siblings reminisce about their childhood, but when Jimmy goes into cardiac arrest, Becks knows she cant tell him Mama had a stroke and died, nor what really happened in the schoolyard forty years ago. After Jimmy dies, while she is visiting his tombstone following a church service, she realizes he would have forgiven her years ago. Now she must forgive herself.

Book excerpt: Experts survey the latest research on dolphin communication and cognition, offering a comprehensive reference to findings in the laboratory and from the field. Dolphin researchers have collected an impressive amount of data over the last twenty years, thanks to advances in technology for monitoring, recording, and analyzing dolphin behavior as well as increasing interest in exploring and modeling dolphins' cognitive capacities. This volume offers a comprehensive reference to the latest research on dolphin communication and cognition, reporting on findings from both the laboratory and the field. The contributors review a wide range of topics, including vocalization, abstract reasoning abilities, imitation and learning, social cognition, echolocation, and ethical issues in working with cetaceans. The book begins by examining the dolphin brain and its evolution, the anatomy of its unique sound production and reception systems, and its sensory abilities. It next treats communication, reviewing the complexity of dolphins' vocalization, and then describes research on cognition, from both experimental and developmental perspectives. Finally, the book considers the future of dolphin research, including a series of provocative questions that remain unanswered, posed by the volume's expert contributors. Book excerpt: A thrilling new suspense novel with shades of The Stand and One Second After from the New York Times bestselling author of the Jonathan Grave series, that fans of Ben Coes and Brad Taylor won’t want to miss! In the wake of a global conflict that has devastated America, those who survived live in a world without technology or governance. They look to one woman—single mother and former West Virginia Congressperson Victoria Emerson—to lead and protect those determined to rebuild all they have lost… “Engrossing…Fans of doomsday military thrillers will delight in the resilience of Gilstrap’s family of preppers and their quest for survival on their terms.” –Publishers Weekly They call it Hell Day—a world war that lasted less than twenty-four hours. Nations unleashed weapons that destroyed more than a century’s worth of technology. Electrical grids cannot generate power. Communications and computers cannot run. And the remnants of the U. S. government cannot be depended upon. Those who survived must live as their ancestors did, off a land ruled by the whims of nature. One-time congressional representative Victoria Emerson has become the new leader of the small town of Ortho, West Virginia. She has been struggling to provide food and shelter for the town’s inhabitants, while coping with desperate refugees. An autumn morning’s calm is shattered when her teenage son sounds the alarm with the cry “Blue Fire”—the code phrase for imminent danger. A band of National Guardsmen intends to take Ortho and its resources for themselves. They have enough soldiers and firepower to eliminate anyone who dares to stop them. But Victoria swore an oath to defend and protect her people, and she isn’t about to surrender. It’s time to tap into the traditional American values of courage, ingenuity, and determination – and fight fire with fire.

Book excerpt: The nightmare scenario has come to pass. America has fallen. In the aftermath, one woman becomes the last hope of a nation and its people in New York Times bestselling author John Gilstrap’s electrifying new Victoria Emerson thriller series. West Virginia Congresswoman Victoria Emerson has always put the needs of her community before the power games of Washington, D.C. Then an Army officer appears on her doorstep, deploying the code words “Crimson Phoenix”—meaning this is not a drill. The United States is on the brink of nuclear disaster. The major will escort her to a secure bunker. She cannot bring her family. A single mother, Victoria refuses to abandon her teenage sons. Denied entry to the bunker, the family somehow survives the unthinkable. In the aftermath, the nation is in chaos. The grid is gone. Food is scarce. Civility gives way to desperate survival. Against this total collapse, Victoria creates a new home in a small Appalachian mountain town. The community she builds around her shines like a beacon in a dark wasteland. Now she must defend it with her life—to give hope to a new America. “A gripping page-turner.” —Taylor Stevens, New York Times bestselling author of Liars’ Legacy “An explosive story that locks you into your chair until the final page.” —Jamie Freveletti, international bestselling author of Running from the Devil and Robert Ludlum’s The Janus Reprisal “Snaps with action from the very first page. Book excerpt: YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO TO REMAIN SILENT Terrifying violence on college campuses across America. Students lashing out at any speaker brave enough to say something they disagree with. Precious snow flakes demanding “Safe Spaces” to protect them from any idea they haven’t heard from their liberal professors. In this book and the accompanying movie, Dennis Prager, Mark Joseph, and Adam Carolla expose the attack on free speech and free thought. It began in the universities, but—fair warning—it’s coming to your neighborhood and your workplace. “No Safe Spaces is a film every American should see. I could barely move when it was over. Powerful, emotional, and a call to action for anyone worried about the intellectual fascism happening in this country. A brave, timely, and important film.” —MEGYN KELLY, former FOX News anchor and host of Megyn Kelly Today “There is no free speech in America for free thinkers! You can have free speech in America but only if you say what everybody else agrees with. It’s not enough to ‘live and let live’ now. The psycho-elite believe ‘silence is violence’ and you must actively promote what THEY want no matter how vile or reprehensible it is to you. George Orwell lives! They should’ve called Orwell ‘Nostradamus’ because his most frightening prophecies have come to pass, as you will witness in No Safe Spaces!” —MANCOW MULLER, radio phenomenon “An excellent film, the best I’ve seen on the subject of free speech. I especially like Dennis’s line, ‘They have to believe we are evil; otherwise they’d have to debate us.’ Perfect!” —CAL THOMAS, America’s #1 syndicated columnist
