Book excerpt: Can a few well-chosen words hit as the arrow hits the target? Can a few words completely change the way of thinking? And can a few words change a man's life? The answer to all questions above will be -- "Yes". I present to you my new book -- "Per Aspera Ad Astra".In English this means "Through the difficulties to the stars". Interesting name, isn't it? Before you is the book of more than 100 best great people Quotes. At first, there were about 1000 of them, but after qualitative selection it became only a little more than 100. The book will be useful for those who are looking for themselves in life, who can't find answers to some asks, or just those who looking for development book or just have some fun. The book will be a perfect gift for friends or for the relatives, perhaps this is exactly what they need now. It doesn't matter who you are at the moment, a student, a factory worker, or CEO of a company with, sometimes we all need support, more inspiration, or the right advice. The book contains quotes, which reflect the way of thinking successful people that helped them to achieve great results, kill laziness in themselves, and despite the failures move forward. I wanted you to get the most pleasure of reading, so I decided to make each quote together with a picture, and I think it turned out well. Sincerely, V. Wayne

Book excerpt: A Kansas Notable Book of the Year, 2018 Andrew Carnegie funded fifty-nine public libraries in Kansas in the early 20th century—but it was frontier women who organized waffle suppers, minstrel shows, and women's baseball games to buy books to fill them. Now, a century later, Angelina returns to her father's hometown of New Hope to complete her dissertation on the Carnegie libraries, just as Traci and Gayle arrive in town—Traci as an artist-in-residence at the renovated Carnegie Arts Center and Gayle as a refugee whose neighboring town, Prairie Hill, has just been destroyed by a tornado. The discovery of an old journal inspires the women to create a library and arts center as the first act of rebuilding Prairie Hill after the tornado. As they work together to raise money for the center, Traci reveals her enormous heart, Angelina discovers that problem-solving is more valuable than her PhD, and Gayle demonstrates that courage is not about waiting out a storm but building a future. Full of Kansas history—from pioneer homesteaders to Carrie Nation to orphan trains—To the Stars through Difficulties is a contemporary story of women changing their world, and finding their own voices, powers, and self-esteem in the process.
Book Synopsis Living with a Dead Language by : Ann Patty
Download or read book Living with a Dead Language written by Ann Patty and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A delightful mix of grammar and growth, words and wonder.” – The Washington Post An entertaining exploration of the richness and relevance of the Latin language and literature, and an inspiring account of finding renewed purpose through learning something new and challenging After thirty-five years as a book editor in New York City, Ann Patty stopped working and moved to the country. Bored, aimless, and lost in the woods, she hoped to challenge her restless, word-loving brain by beginning a serious study of Latin at local colleges. As she begins to make sense of Latin grammar and syntax, her studies open unexpected windows into her own life. The louche poetry of Catullus calls up her early days in 1970s New York, Lucretius elucidates her intractable drivenness and her attraction to Buddhism, while Ovid’s verse conjures a delightful dimension to the flora and fauna that surround her. Women in Roman history, and an ancient tomb inscription give her new understanding and empathy for her tragic, long deceased mother. Finally, Virgil reconciles her to her new life—no longer an urban exile, but a rustic scholar, writer and teacher. Along the way, she meets an impassioned cast of characters: professors, students and classicists outside of academia who keep Latin very much alive. Written with humor, heart, and an infectious enthusiasm for words, Patty’s book is an object lesson in how learning and literature can transform the past and lead to an unexpected future.

Download or read book Ad Astra Per Aspera written by Valerie Blue Dam-at Claveria and published by Ukiyoto Publishing. This book was released on 2022-08-09 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ad Astra Per Aspera (Though Hardship to the Stars) is a book written in different times. The book was written in three chapters. Chapter I is Titled: Ad Astra Per Aspera and it talked about my imaginary friend I refer to as Raymund/Poy who held a big part of my journey for I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia in 2011 specifically Auditory Hallucination and I have had held voices inside my head from that time on. I included some vision/s that was introduced in July 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Chapter II was Titled: Just Beginnings and discussed unsent letters to Col. Dexter Baguan Ollaging who I have met as a respectable colleague at Apayao Provincial Police Office in 2014 and we shared a bit of a history but remained professional in dealings and relationship all throughout the duration of the courtship. Chapter III is Titled: Oeuvre and is the author’s beginning with Atty. Raymund Erwin M. Pizarro, the same person referred to in Chapter I. There was a Raymund that actually lived, a real person, the Mayor of UC-LLB Batch 2010 Section A. This would be my classmate who I fell in love with before I acquired the sickness. It was clean love or more aptly called as Attraction. This is in stark contrast to the Raymund/Poy in Chapter I, that one is an imaginary friend, a figment of my imagination and a product of my active mind and my schizophrenic tendencies. I pray that this book will bless you as it did mine.
