Download or read book Back on Track written by Philip G. Laird and published by UNSW Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Australia's freight transport system now has the highest proportion of truck use of any developed country in the world, and with New Zealand, its cities are heavily dependent on cars. Back on Track considers the historic, economic and political issues that have led to this situation, and concludes that the emergence of such a strongly road-oriented system has not been in the national interest, on both economic and environmental grounds. It develops a detailed analysis of Australia's 'road transport deficit'. The authors suggest that rail is the neglected element in Australian and New Zealand transport systems and despite a history of 'policy paralysis', they offer a rail-based ten point plan that could see both countries' transport systems 'back on track'. Using new data on transportation trends from Australia and around the world, the book sets out a vision for the future of freight and inter-capital transport in Australia and New Zealand, and offers innovative transport strategies for each of the major cities in both countries.

Book Synopsis Driver Behaviour and Training by : Dr Lisa Dorn
Download or read book Driver Behaviour and Training written by Dr Lisa Dorn and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2012-10-28 with total page 571 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on driver behaviour has clearly demonstrated that the goals and motivations a driver brings to the driving task are important determinants for driver behaviour. The objective of the book, and of the conference on which it is based, is to describe and discuss recent advances in the study of driving behaviour and driver training. It bridges the gap between practitioners in road safety, and theoreticians investigating driving behaviour, from a number of different perspectives and related disciplines. The book is timely in its aim of defining new approaches to driver training methodology based on decades of empirical research on driver behaviour. The contributing road safety researchers and professionals consider the kinds of methods that are effective in teaching drivers the higher-level skills needed to be a safe competent driver. The readership includes road safety researchers from a variety of different academic backgrounds, senior practitioners in the field from regulatory authorities and professional driver training organisations such as the police service, and private and public sector personnel who are concerned with improving road safety.
Book Synopsis Transportation, Land Use and Integration by : I.M. Schoeman
Download or read book Transportation, Land Use and Integration written by I.M. Schoeman and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2017-05-30 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years the integration of the location of land use and activities in spatial systems, as well as the provision of transport in movement of goods, services and people, has been recognized as a challenge amongst various specialists, including: engineers, transportation planners, economists, environmentalists, urban and regional planners and developers. The purpose of this book is to address transportation modelling in terms of technology, techniques and methodology application in context to the interface between transportation systems, land use planning, and environmental challenges and application. The methodology of transportation modelling is applied to international practices and application based on specific case studies, inclusive of public transportation projects; transportation modelling techniques in practice; international research agenda; network design and channel strategies; strategic planning; application of technology in traffic surveys and interpretation; emissions from transportation systems; application of mathematical models and the interface between environment, land use and development in terms of location in space and the resulting activities. Of value to both theorists and practitioners, this book references the integration of transportation modelling techniques within an interdisciplinary environment inside all spatial systems.

This book was released on 2017-10-04 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book elucidates the mechanisms involved in biological membrane functions. It describes the new modalities and characterization for basic in vitro as well as computer models of biological membranes. Biological membranes are analyzed in terms of advances in molecular dynamics. The individual chapters provide an in depth analysis of images from various biological models. The potential of membrane models in the context of treatment trials is discussed. The authors present new insights and current concepts for treatment procedures (nanocarriers, electroporation, channel blockers).

Book Synopsis Transport for Suburbia by : Paul Mees
Download or read book Transport for Suburbia written by Paul Mees and published by Earthscan. This book was released on 2009-12 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The need for effective public transport is greater than ever in the 21st century. With countries like China and India moving towards mass-automobility, we face the prospects of an environmental and urban health disaster unless alternatives are found. It is time to move beyond the automobile age. But while public transport has worked well in the dense cores of some big cities, the problem is that most residents of developed countries now live in dispersed suburbs and smaller cities and towns. These places usually have little or no public transport, and most transport commentators have given up on the task of changing this: it all seems too hard. This book argues that the secret of 'European-style' public transport lies in a generalizable model of network planning that has worked in places as diverse as rural Switzerland, the Brazilian city of Curitiba and the Canadian cities of Toronto and Vancouver. It shows how this model can be adapted to suburban, exurban and even rural areas to provide a genuine alternative to the car, and outlines the governance, funding and service planning policies that underpin the success of the world's best public transport systems."--Back cover.
