Book Synopsis Sound and Action in Music Performance by : Peter Q. Pfordresher
Download or read book Sound and Action in Music Performance written by Peter Q. Pfordresher and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sound and Action in Music Performance addresses how auditory feedback influences the planning and execution of our movements. Focusing specifically on auditory feedback in music, including instrumental and vocal production, the book also gives substantial coverage to its role in speech. Both of these behaviors are the primary means by which people communicate their thoughts and feelings through the auditory modality, with auditory feedback being critical in each case. The book proposes that the role of auditory feedback emerges from the broader theme of coordination as our brain coordinates planned actions with concurrent perceptual events, including auditory feedback and other intrusive sounds. Critically reviewing the existing literature and proposing hypotheses for future research, this book tackles a topic that has intrigued researchers for decades. - Covers the role of feedback in event sequencing - Details how motor systems influence the use of auditory feedback - Tackles neural mechanisms for feedback processing - Characterizes hierarchical representations and synchronization - Addresses perception/action associations and the role of internal models of production - Discusses how learning influences the use of auditory feedback - Considers the role of feedback in music and speech production deficits
Book Synopsis Advances in Modeling and Management of Urban Water Networks by : Alberto Campisano
Download or read book Advances in Modeling and Management of Urban Water Networks written by Alberto Campisano and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-01-06 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Special Issue on Advances in Modeling and Management of Urban Water Networks (UWNs) explores four important topics of research in the context of UWNs: asset management, modeling of demand and hydraulics, energy recovery, and pipe burst identification and leakage reduction. In the first topic, the multi-objective optimization of interventions on the network is presented to find trade-off solutions between costs and efficiency. In the second topic, methodologies are presented to simulate and predict demand and to simulate network behavior in emergency scenarios. In the third topic, a methodology is presented for the multi-objective optimization of pump-as-turbine (PAT) installation sites in transmission mains. In the fourth topic, methodologies for pipe burst identification and leakage reduction are presented. As for the urban drainage systems (UDSs), the two explored topics are asset management, with a system upgrade to reduce flooding, and modeling of flow and water quality, with analyses on the transition from surface to pressurized flow, impact of water use reduction on the operation of UDSs, and sediment transport in pressurized pipes. The Special Issue also includes one paper dealing with the hydraulic modeling of an urban river with a complex cross-section.

Book Synopsis The EFQM excellence model for Assessing Organizational Performance by : Chris Hakes
Download or read book The EFQM excellence model for Assessing Organizational Performance written by Chris Hakes and published by Van Haren. This book was released on 2007-07-05 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The EFQM Excellence Model was introduced at the beginning of 1992 as the framework for assessing organizations for the annual European Excellence Award . It is now the most widely used organizational assessment framework in Europe. Most users have no intention of applying to win awards; they use the framework and analysis techniques within the model as diagnostic tools that will help them to: assess the health of their organization, identify its strengths and areas for improvement and periodically measure progress identify and share good management practices, both internally and externally anticipate and target their desired results in tangible, measurable ways Whether you are a newcomer to the Excellence Model, or an experienced user (whose techniques of performance assessment maybe rigorous but have possibly evolved to become overly complex), this Management Guide provides you with practical techniques to undertake timely and effective assessments. It explains the history, basis and evolution of the EFQM Excellence Model, the nature of EFQM and its networks today, and, most importantly, provides step-by-step guidance, together with a series of analysis pro-formas, to enable readers to facilitate an assessment of an organization against each of the 32 elements ( criterion parts ) of the EFQM Excellence Model.

Book Synopsis Integrated Cost and Schedule Control for Construction Projects by : Frederick W. Mueller
Download or read book Integrated Cost and Schedule Control for Construction Projects written by Frederick W. Mueller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Management and administrative processes within the construction industry have been undergoing major changes in the last several decades. These changes have involved significant adjustments in management science and manage ment techniques, brought about by the need for contemporary valid informa tion with which to manage the construction process. In short, management in the construction industry is changing significantly; change will continue at an accelerated pace at least through the next decade. The responses required of construction industry management are now resulting in a movement away from an entrepreneurial management style to professional management tech niques and procedures. THE COMPELLING ECONOMIC ISSUES The issues forcing these changes are economic. The rising costs of construction and of money are forcing the buyers of construction services to be more demanding. Their demands are for more construction economies, more pro duction, and more productivity than at any time in the past. Nowhere has this been more evident than in the Business Roundtable on construction and in the response of the construction industry to it.· To be successfully responsive, management in the construction industry will be required to use the best project management methods available for cost control, schedule control, and for financial and accounting controls. But responsive professional management can survive and will flourish within this more demanding eco nomic environment.
Book Synopsis Improving Homeland Security Decisions by : Ali E. Abbas
