À partir d'études comparatives entre ces deux populations, la littérature a mis en évidence des indices communs d'un développement atypique de la morphosyntaxe. En effet, les sujets présentent des difficultés semblables pour produire et comprendre des structures syntaxiques complexes comme les pronoms objet, la flexion verbale, le passif et les subordonnées relatives. Ce mémoire porte sur l'acquisition d'une autre construction problématique qui a reçu peu d'attention en contexte atypique, les questions-Qu. La formation des questions-Qu implique un calcul syntaxique coûteux lié aux opérations de mouvement. Ces constructions se révèlent émerger lentement et tardivement en développement ordinaire du langage, et être la cause de difficultés persistantes en développement atypique. L'analyse des questions-Qu en développement atypiquedu langage est intéressante à plusieurs égards pour la recherche. Premièrement, la mise en évidence de difficultés semblables pour les deux populations présente une implication théorique, permettant de mieux comprendre le développement atypique du langage. Deuxièmement, souligner des dissemblances permettrait de dégager un marqueur clinique de la dysphasie, qui se révèle essentiel dans le cadre du diagnostic différentiel. Enfin, l'intérêt pratique réside dans l'analyse des stratégies de compensation mises en place par les sujets pour éviter la complexité, et leur exploitation en rééducation orthophonique. Cette étude examine la production et la compréhension des questions-Qu, au moyen du protocole expérimental Questions Racines, chez des enfants dysphasiques et apprenants L2 du français âgés de 6 à 13 ans. Les résultats démontrent que les deux groupes sont sensibles à la complexité liée à la formation des questions. Ils tendent à contourner cette difficulté en mettant en place des stratégies d'évitement, qui leur permettent de produire des questions plus simples, mais comportant moins d'erreurs.

Sur le plan morphosyntaxique, ces enfants présentent par exemple des difficultés semblables pour la production de certaines structures comme les flexions verbales ou les pronoms objets. Actuellement, de plus en plus d'approches théoriques font appel la notion de complexité syntaxique pour rendre compte de ces difficultés. L'hypothèse dite de la «complexité computationnelle », que nous suivrons dans ce mémoire, suggère que ces enfants ont des difficultés à gérer les structures complexes de la langue et qu'ils optent pour la production de constructions plus simples, contenant moins d'erreurs, dans le but de réduire leurs difficultés. Dans ce mémoire, nous souhaitons explorer plus en détails la question des liens qui existent entre complexité syntaxique et production d'erreurs dans le développement atypique. L'objectif de ce travail est de vérifier s'il existe une corrélation positive entre le degré de complexité des structures produites et le taux d'erreurs en production chez des enfants dysphasiques et apprenants L2. Cette prédiction est examinée de façon longitudinale dans le cadre de la production de questions racines en français, aspect morphosyntaxique offrant une grande variété de constructions qui diffèrent en termes de complexité. Notre étude se propose d'analyser et de comparer, à un an d'intervalle, les erreurs réalisées dans ce type de questions au sein d'un groupe de 21 enfants dysphasiques et de 20 enfants issus de l'immigration britannique âgés de 6 à 13 ans. L'analyse quantitative et qualitative de l'agrammaticalité au sein de leurs productions confirme, par certains aspects, l'existence d'un profil similaire entre ces deux populations. Les résultats obtenus permettent également de souligner certaines différences sur le plan linguistique.

L'approche cognitivo-fonctionnelle n'a été appliquée à la dysphasie que dans peu d'études. De plus, l'acquisition de la syntaxe complexe chez l'enfant dysphasique est un domaine délaissé dans la littérature existante. Ainsi, dans ce travail de thèse, nous nous sommes intéressés aux difficultés des enfants dysphasiques pour la complexité morphosyntaxique à travers la lunette de la TUC, et ce en utilisant à les fois des tâches expérimentales et des situations de génération de langage spontané. Nous postulions que la complexité, concept au cœur de notre travail, est définie par ce qui est cognitivement coûteux, désignant ainsi les formes linguistiques rares, longues ou imbriquées. Notre travail met en évidence que les enfants dysphasiques peuvent être productifs seulement avec les schémas fréquents dans le langage qui leur est adressé, alors que les structures complexes, peu fréquentes dans l'input, sont particulièrement difficiles à appréhender pour eux. Dès lors, ces enfants ont besoin d'être confrontés à davantage d'exemplaires et de contextes de pratique pour que la masse critique suffisante soit atteinte et que l'apprentissage de constructions soit possible. Enfin, un lien relativement clair entre la difficulté de complexification syntaxique et les troubles de la généralisation est mis en évidence.

Sign languages and gestural systems are produced in physical space; they manipulate spatial contrasts for linguistic and communicative purposes. Book excerpt: Although speech-language pathologists are expected to be able to administer and interpret oral examinations, there are currently no screening tests available that provide careful administration instructions and data for intra-examiner and inter-examiner reliability. The Oral Speech Mechanism Screening Examination (OSMSE) is designed primarily for use by clinical speech-language pathologists. The examination could also serve, however, as a useful tool for oral myofunctional therapists, as well as physical therapists, dentists, and orthodontists interested specifically in speech. It is reliable, relatively easy and quick to administer, and appropriate for children and adults in either diagnostic or therapy settings. The OSMSE is intended to assess those anatomical structures and physiological functions that are most often considered to be potentially related to speech or language disorders. Structural and/or functional judgments included are organized on the OSMSE test form under categories of: lips, tongue, jaw, teeth, hard palate, soft palate, pharynx, breathing, and diadochokinesis. Results of a preliminary study with normal speaking subjects indicated that the OSMSE had satisfactory intra- and inter-examiner reliability after minimal training. The time required to administer the examination typically ranged from 5 to 10 minutes. (Author/GK)
