Book Synopsis The Dynamics of Euro-African Co-operation by : Eric C. Djamson
Download or read book The Dynamics of Euro-African Co-operation written by Eric C. Djamson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. E. C. Djamson, a distinguished Ghanaian Lawyer and Diplomat, has put political scientists and students of international law into his debt. His work is an important contribution to the literature of Mro-European co operation. He examines the history of relations between the European Economic Community and the Associated African States; he provides a thorough analysis of the international institutions and of the wider political, economic and legal problems involved in Mro-European co-operation. The author is concerned with the manner in which Mrican sovereign states are now able to enter into relations with Europe on a basis of legal equality. He emphasizes the principles involved in the law of nations; this should comprise, not merely "civilized" law in traditional parlance, but also Mrican customary law. As Dr. Djamson puts it, "the international community can no longer afford to ignore the principles of law peculiar to the so-called Third World . . . after all the 'general principles of law recognized by civilized nations' are not at variance with the basic ideas of law and justice as understood by the newcomers to the international scene. " At the same time, both the new states and the old, established powers must accept those obligations that derive from their being signatories to international agreement. Adherence to the principle of pacta sunt obser vanda does not violate sovereignty, but of itself gives evidence of a country's maturity and ability to co-exist with other sovereign entities. Dr.

Book Synopsis France and Nigeria by : Haruna J.. Jacob
Download or read book France and Nigeria written by Haruna J.. Jacob and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The suggestion to produce this volume was first made in 1987 and actual work on the project started in 1988. At that time, all the authors (except one who had already returned to Nigeria) were registered for doctoral studies with French government scholarships. The idea was that since we were engaged in different fields of study and were thus in a position to generate a pool of information on wide range of topics, it might be useful to bring together our various specialities in order to reflect on issues and problems between our country, Nigeria, and the country of our doctoral studies, France.
Book Synopsis The European Union and Africa by : William Brown
Download or read book The European Union and Africa written by William Brown and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2001-11-22 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an in depth study of one of the most important agreements in the recent history of EU-developing world relations: the Lome convention - the principles upon which all relations between the states of the European union and ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific) countries are based. Over the course of its 25 year life, the Convention has been altered to suit the changing relationship of those states involved. This historical study not only charts the course of that vital relationship between haves and have-nots, but also, in its changing focus and shifting concerns, reflects recent broader changes at the global level in the international relations.
Book Synopsis The EU in the Global Political Economy by : Finn Laursen
Download or read book The EU in the Global Political Economy written by Finn Laursen and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The EU has become an important international actor. Its internal policies often have repercussions far beyond its borders. It is also increasingly becoming a proactive global actor, defending its interests and projecting its norms and values in both bilateral and multilateral external relations. This volume has a special focus on external economic relations and includes chapters on the Euro, trade policy, and competition policy as well as on specific bilateral relationships. The section on relations with industrialized countries deals with the United States, Canada, Russia, Japan and China, while the section on relations with developing countries has chapters on administrative reform, environmental cooperation, Cuba, Central America and Iran. The book thus gives an up-to-date overview of important aspects of the EU's external relations. With a focus on political economy, it traces the continuous interplay of economics and politics that has characterized the EU's development of a fully-fledged foreign policy. What emerges is a picture of a European Union that is better equipped institutionally to deal with economic, rather than political issues.

Book Synopsis The CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement by : Americo Beviglia Zampetti
Download or read book The CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement written by Americo Beviglia Zampetti and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement is a sui generis North-South trade and development agreement. The C-EPA is a bi-regional agreement, signed in Bridgetown, Barbados in October 2008, with the specific aim of supporting the sustainable development of the Caribbean. As a paradigm changer in the ACP-EU trade relationship, the C-EPA has unsurprisingly attracted considerable attention. The long process of ratification by twenty-seven EU Member States and fifteen Caribbean countries has begun, and implementation is advancing after an initial delay. This book is the first detailed analysis of the Agreement's provisions, including its negotiating history and prognosis of its future potential. It is written by fifteen Caribbean and European practitioners, most of whom actively contributed to the crafting of the Agreement as CARIFORUM or EU negotiators. The contributions cover the following: ; charting a dual approach to CARIFORUM commitments at both regional and national levels; establishing an architecture of commitments that seeks to support CARIFORUM regional integration; safeguarding Caribbean preferential access to the EU market; broadening the ambit of the Caribbean-EU relationship, as reflected in the Cotonou Agreement, into new trade disciplines; highlighting key drivers in the negotiations; addressing the CARICOM-Dominican Republic economic relationship; examining the special treatment of Haiti; and reviewing the C-EPA's compatibility with WTO rules.
