Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The information age has led to an explosion in the amount of information available to the individual and the means by which it is accessed, stored, viewed, and transferred. In particular, the growth of the internet has led to the creation of huge repositories of multimedia documents in a diverse range of scientific and professional fields, as well as the tools to extract useful knowledge from them. Mining Multimedia Documents is a must-read for researchers, practitioners, and students working at the intersection of data mining and multimedia applications. It investigates various techniques related to mining multimedia documents based on text, image, and video features. It provides an insight into the open research problems benefitting advanced undergraduates, graduate students, researchers, scientists and practitioners in the fields of medicine, biology, production, education, government, national security and economics.

This book was released on 2003-11-24 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A multimedia system needs a mechanism to communicate with its environment, the Internet, clients, and applications. MPEG-7 provides a standard metadata format for global communication, but lacks the framework to let the various players in a system interact. MPEG-21 closes this gap by establishing an infrastructure for a distributed multimedia frame
Book Synopsis Interactive Multimedia Systems by : Rahman, Syed M.
Download or read book Interactive Multimedia Systems written by Rahman, Syed M. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2001-07-01 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multimedia technology has the potential to evolve the paradigm of end user computing, from the interactive text and graphics model that has developed since the 1950s, into one more compatible with the digital electronic world of the next century. Decreasing hardware costs, a relatively inexpensive storage capacity and a rapid increasing computing power and network bandwidth, all major requirements of multimedia applications, have contributed to the recent tremendous growth in production and use of multimedia contents. Interactive Multimedia Systems addresses these innovative technologies and how they can positively impact a variety of areas.

Book Synopsis Content-Based Video Retrieval by : Milan Petkovic
Download or read book Content-Based Video Retrieval written by Milan Petkovic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The area of content-based video retrieval is a very hot area both for research and for commercial applications. In order to design effective video databases for applications such as digital libraries, video production, and a variety of Internet applications, there is a great need to develop effective techniques for content-based video retrieval. One of the main issues in this area of research is how to bridge the semantic gap between low-Ievel features extracted from a video (such as color, texture, shape, motion, and others) and semantics that describe video concept on a higher level. In this book, Dr. Milan Petkovi6 and Prof. Dr. Willem Jonker have addressed this issue by developing and describing several innovative techniques to bridge the semantic gap. The main contribution of their research, which is the core of the book, is the development of three techniques for bridging the semantic gap: (1) a technique that uses the spatio-temporal extension of the Cobra framework, (2) a technique based on hidden Markov models, and (3) a technique based on Bayesian belief networks. To evaluate performance of these techniques, the authors have conducted a number of experiments using real video data. The book also discusses domains solutions versus general solution of the problem. Petkovi6 and Jonker proposed a solution that allows a system to be applied in multiple domains with minimal adjustments. They also designed and described a prototype video database management system, which is based on techniques they proposed in the book.

Book Synopsis Advanced Multimedia Content Processing by : Shojiro Nishio
Download or read book Advanced Multimedia Content Processing written by Shojiro Nishio and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-05-21 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the Proceedings of the First International Conference on Advanced Multimedia Content Processing (AMCP ’98). With the remarkable advances made in computer and communication hardware/software system technologies, we can now easily obtain large volumes of multimedia data through advanced computer networks and store and handle them in our own personal hardware. Sophisticated and integrated multimedia content processing technologies, which are essential to building a highly advanced information based society, are attracting ever increasing attention in various service areas, including broadcasting, publishing, medical treatment, entertainment, and communications. The prime concerns of these technologies are how to acquire multimedia content data from the real world, how to automatically organize and store these obtained data in databases for sharing and reuse, and how to generate and create new, attractive multimedia content using the stored data. This conference brings together researchers and practitioners from academia, in dustry, and public agencies to present and discuss recent advances in the acquisition, management, retrieval, creation, and utilization of large amounts of multimedia con tent. Artistic and innovative applications through the active use of multimedia con tent are also subjects of interest. The conference aims at covering the following par ticular areas: (1) Dynamic multimedia data modeling and intelligent structuring of content based on active, bottom up, and self organized strategies. (2) Access archi tecture, querying facilities, and distribution mechanisms for multimedia content.
