Book Synopsis Emergent Techniques for Assessment of Visual Performance by : National Research Council
Download or read book Emergent Techniques for Assessment of Visual Performance written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1985-01-01 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent vision research has led to the emergence of new techniques that offer exciting potential for a more complete assessment of vision in clinical, industrial, and military settings. Emergent Techniques for Assessment of Visual Performance examines four areas of vision testing that offer potential for improved assessment of visual capability including: contrast sensitivity function, dark-focus of accommodation, dynamic visual acuity and dynamic depth tracking, and ambient and focal vision. In contrast to studies of accepted practices, this report focuses on emerging techniques that could help determine whether people have the vision necessary to do their jobs. In addition to examining some of these emerging techniques, the report identifies their usefulness in predicting performance on other visual and visual-motor tasks, and makes recommendations for future research. Emergent Techniques for Assessment of Visual Performance provides summary recommendations for research that will have significant value and policy implications for the next 5 to 10 years. The content and conclusions of this report can serve as a useful resource for those responsible for screening industrial and military visual function.

Book Synopsis Accommodation and Vergence Mechanisms in the Visual System by : Ove Franzen
Download or read book Accommodation and Vergence Mechanisms in the Visual System written by Ove Franzen and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This conference was instigated by a combination of factors: The nature of the problem, the wide spread occupational epidemiology reported on eye symptoms and eye fatigue in the workplace, and the organizers' awareness of the complexity of the scientific and clinical bases of knowledge that might be usefully applied. The introduction of new methods into system neurobiology provides new insights into how we receive and process information from the external world, and act upon it. New, non-invasive methods have opened the way to direct observation of the human brain in action. Due particularly to the interaction between the visual and oculomotor requirements involved, several clinical and scientific fields intersect when these issues are considered. To provide clear vision the accommodative and pupillary mechanisms are used. To maintain binocularity, the ver gence oculomotor system, sensitive to fatigue, must attain congruence with accommodative levels. This accommodation-vergence linkage was a focus of our symposium.

Book Synopsis Clinical Optics by : Andrew R. Elkington
Download or read book Clinical Optics written by Andrew R. Elkington and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 1999-08-25 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written to help trainee ophthalmologists, this textbook is now the recognised text on optics for the examinations of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the Royal Surgical Colleges. It approaches the subject from first principles and assumes no previous knowledge of optics. The book has been kept as simple as possible and is liberally complemented with diagrams designed to be easily understood and memorised. Only the most fundamental and clinically useful mathematical formulae are quoted, and the optical principles are applied to clinical situations. Ophthalmology examinations have changed substantially since the last edition was written and a total rewrite of this essential guide has become necessary. The third edition has been made more comprehensive and detailed to keep up with these changes and incorporates three new chapters: refractive surgery, contact lenses and lasers. Other new material includes photometry, visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, colour vision, absorptive lenses, fluorescence, ultrasound, and the specular microscope.
