Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about a womans life who has experienced most everything but death and child birth. She survived an abusive marriage, several abusive relationships, mental abuse as a child in her home, and being mentally and physically worn down by show business, which constantly challenged her self-esteem. It will tell you how she overcame disaster (several severe car accidents, being mugged on the street, and a 1976 sailboat trip through the middle of the Bermuda Triangle), what she learned from her experiences, and how she has put into practice the knowledge gained from those lessons; the biggest of which is having a sense of humor through it all. She has studied human behavior and abusive situations, and hopes that this book will allow her to help young girls deal with the misogyny of women that is ever-present in the world today. There is also the intrinsic value of entertainment contained in these pages of her triumphs and tribulations. Have a look into the world of a woman whose uncanny fortune is displayed in every corner of her life.
Book Synopsis Intentional Oil Pollution at Sea by : Ronald Bruce Mitchell
Download or read book Intentional Oil Pollution at Sea written by Ronald Bruce Mitchell and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed case study of how international environmental treaties can be made more effective. Combining theoretical analysis with a rigorous empirical evaluation of changes in the compliance process over time, the book identifies policies that have increased compliance by governments and the oil transportation industry with discharge restrictions, equipment requirements, enforcement, and reporting. How do environmental treaties influence international behavior? Deliberate discharges from oil tankers have traditionally been the biggest source of oil pollution from ships, greater than much-publicized accidental spills. Although an international treaty governs how tankers must dispose of oil, compliance has been a problem. Intentional Oil Pollution at Sea is a detailed case study of how international environmental treaties can be made more effective. Combining theoretical analysis with a rigorous empirical evaluation of changes in the compliance process over time, it identifies policies that have increased compliance by governments and the oil transportation industry with discharge restrictions, equipment requirements, enforcement, and reporting. Ronald Mitchell introduces the debate over environmental treaty compliance, compliance theory, and a history of intentional oil pollution. He then uses a wealth of data to study efforts to change government and industry behavior in reporting on treaty performance, enforcing rules, and complying with equipment and discharge standards. He closes with theoretical conclusions drawn from the empirical analysis regarding the sources of effective treaty compliance as well as prescriptions for policymakers about how to negotiate more effective future environmental agreements. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How long has it been since you made an intentional decision that shaped your life? Did that decision draw you closer to God or lead you away from Him? This thought-provoking book unveils God’s intentional decision to place us here, not so we could wander aimlessly, but to include us in what He is doing. As a result of this truth, where we live, how we live, and why we live become matters of great importance. Jesus lived intentionally. He was sent into the world and has already walked where we are to walk. He came to point the way to God, to save, and to serve. As a true Christ follower, we should have the same mission. Intentional Living will inspire you to begin applying this lifestyle philosophy by loving God with your whole being. Intentionally commit to think with God’s mind, see through God’s eyes, embrace God’s personality, feel with God’s heart, tell God’s story, influence with God’s light, and serve with God’s strength.

Book Synopsis Accidental and Intentional Exporters by : Tham Siew Yean
Download or read book Accidental and Intentional Exporters written by Tham Siew Yean and published by ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute. This book was released on 2018-03-06 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regardless of the size of the domestic economy, there are ample reasons for firms to extend their markets beyond home shores. These include increasing sales, improving profits, diversifying risks, reaping economies of scale, matching the moves of competitors, enhancing competitiveness or accessing government incentives. Both Indonesia and Malaysia seek to enhance the competitiveness of their micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by including internationalization goals in their respective national development plans for these enterprises. Findings from fourteen case studies in the two countries indicate that exporting may be a serendipitous discovery, as few of these cases were born global in intent. Shifting to intentional exporting will require entrepreneurs to tap into government and/or private networks and thus connect with international buyers. Indonesian MSMEs are more inclined to depend more on government than private networks as they perceive the former to be more credible. Malaysian cases indicate some firms prefer private to government networks. This is attributed to the differences in the political economy of the two countries. Going forward, both countries need to consolidate their government-run programmes and reduce the fiscal burden. MSMEs should tap more into private networks to bridge the information gap that hinders their access to external markets. ASEAN can facilitate the entry of MSMEs into the ASEAN market by implementing resolutely current plans to reduce technical barriers to trade.

Download or read book Empathy written by Amy Coplan and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011-10-27 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Empathy has for a long time, at least since the eighteenth century, been seen as centrally important in relation to our capacity to gain a grasp of the content of other people's minds, and predict and explain what they will think, feel, and do; and in relation to our capacity to respond to others ethically. In addition, empathy is seen as having a central role in aesthetics, in the understanding of our engagement with works of art and with fictional characters. A fuller understanding of empathy is now offered by the interaction of research in science and the humanities. Empathy: Philosophical and Psychological Perspectives draws together nineteen original chapters by leading researchers across several disciplines, together with an extensive Introduction by the editors. The individual chapters reveal how important it is, in a wide range of fields of enquiry, to bring to bear an understanding of the role of empathy in its various guises. This volume offers the ideal starting-point for the exploration of this intriguing aspect of human life.
Book Synopsis The Understanding of Causation and the Production of Action by : Peter Anthony White
Download or read book The Understanding of Causation and the Production of Action written by Peter Anthony White and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is an attempt to trace out a line of development in the understanding of how things happen, from origins in infancy to mature forms in adulthood. There are two distinct but related ways in which people understand things as happening, denoted by the terms "causation" and "action". This book is concerned with both.; The central claim and organizing principle of the book is that, by the end of the second year of life, children have differentiated two core theories of how things happen. These theories deal with causation and action. The two theories have a common point of origin in the infant's experience of producing actions, but thereafter diverge, both in content and in realm of application. Once established, the core theories of causation and action never change, but form a permanent metaphysical underpinning on which subsequent developments in the understanding of how things happen are erected. The story of development is therefore largely the story of how further concepts become attached to integrated with the core theories. Although the developmental and adult literatures on causal understanding appear at first glance to have little in common, in fact this appearance is illusory, and the idea of two theories helps to bring the two literatures in contact with each other.; The book begins with a survey of the main philosophical ideas about causation and action. Following this, the possible origins of understanding in infancy are reviewed, and separate chapters then deal with the development of understanding of action and causation through childhood. This is then linked to the adult understanding of action and causation, and the literature on adult causal attribution and causal judgement is reviewed from this perspective.

Book Synopsis Toward a Prosecutor for the European Union Volume 1 by : Katalin Ligeti
Download or read book Toward a Prosecutor for the European Union Volume 1 written by Katalin Ligeti and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-12-17 with total page 1313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an era in which the EU's influence in criminal law matters has expanded rapidly, attention has recently turned to the possible creation of a European Public Prosecutor's Office. This two volume work presents the results of a study carried out by a group of European criminal law experts in 2010-2012, with the financial support of the EU Commission, whose aims were to examine in detail current public prosecution systems in the Member States and to scrutinise proposals for a new European office. Volume 1 begins with thorough descriptions of 20 different national legal systems of investigation and prosecution, addressing a range of evidential and procedural safeguards. These will serve as a point of reference for all future research on public prosecutors. Volume 1 also contains a series of cross-cutting studies of the key issues that will inform debates about the creation of a European Public Prosecutor's Office, including studies of vertical cooperation in administrative investigations in subsidy and competition cases, the accession of the EU to the ECHR, judicial control in cooperation in criminal matters, mutual recognition and decentralised enforcement of European competition law. Volume 2 (which will be published in 2013) presents a draft set of model rules for the procedure of the European Public Prosecutor's Office and continues with a set of comparative studies of the national legal systems that cover the gathering of evidence, seizure of assets, arrests, tracking and tracing, prosecution measures, procedural safeguards, the presumption of innocence and the right to silence, access to the file and victim reconciliation. Volume 2 concludes with the final report, written by Professor Ligeti, summarising the findings of the group and reporting on the prospects for the proposed reform.

Book Synopsis Empirical Research towards a Relevance Assessment of Software Clones by : Saman Bazrafshan
Download or read book Empirical Research towards a Relevance Assessment of Software Clones written by Saman Bazrafshan and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2017-06-30 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Redundancies in program source code - software clones - are a common phenomenon. Although it is often claimed that software clones decrease the maintainability of software systems and need to be managed, research in the last couple of years showed that not all clones can be considered harmful. A sophisticated assessment of the relevance of software clones and a cost-benefit analysis of clone management is needed to gain a better understanding of cloning and whether it is truly a harmful phenomenon. This thesis introduces techniques to model, analyze, and evaluate versatile aspects of software clone evolution within the history of a system. We present a mapping of non-identical clones across multiple versions of a system, that avoids possible ambiguities of previous approaches. Though processing more data to determine the context of each clone to avoid an ambiguous mapping, the approach is shown to be efficient and applicable to large systems for a retrospective analysis of software clone evolution. The approach has been used in several studies to gain insights into the phenomenon of cloning in open-source as well as industrial software systems. Our results show that non-identical clones require more attention regarding clone management compared to identical clones as they are the dominating clone type for the main share of our subject systems. Using the evolution model to investigate costs and benefits of refactorings that remove clones, we conclude that clone removals could not reduce maintenance costs for most systems under study.
