Book excerpt: The first of five volumes of â€pulp poetry’… based on just about every aspect of â€real’ life! With language straight from the gutter, and covering just about every subject imaginable, this is sure to contain something that will either amuse or offend, delight or disgust, or bore the pants off just about anyone who bothers to read it! With all the subtlety of a house brick, nothing and no one is safe from his ever-inquisitive eye! If you’ve ever thought about it, he has written about it… and if he’s written about it, you’ll wish that he hadn’t! This is but the opening act, and, as you reach the end, you’ll ask yourself things like: â€Did he really say that?†and â€Is he for real?†You may even ask, “Who is ‘Rock Rampant’, anyway?†Well, he did say it, and he is for real! Who he is, though, is an entirely different bucket of stuff that you wouldn’t want to put your hands in! All I will say is… whatever he writes is definitely NOT FOR KIDS or the humorously deficient!

Book excerpt: A little girl has a rainbow of emotions in this gentle debut picture book that encourages little ones to express their feelings through color. You’re pink, you’re teal, you’re gray, you’re jade. You’re every golden, warmy shade… All of us have lots of feelings, and this sweet rhyming story cleverly uses colors to explore the wide range of emotions little ones experience throughout the day, from a shy scarlet to a quiet ecru to an exuberant magenta. Along the way it celebrates individuality and self-acceptance—after all, our feelings are the palette that makes us who we are!

Book excerpt: No, you can't be serious! Well, yes, really! If you think you've heard it all before, you can think again! Once more, the 'beast has been unleashed', if only to encourage you to wrench yourselves free from the comfort of the complacency that holds you prisoner! Looking at life from almost every conceivable angle, and using rhyme and verse in various styles, you'll end up getting your ears bent in so many different directions, you won't know if you're coming or going! 'Rock Rampant' reflects on 'real' life with a kind of unique, witty, contempt'¦ the one thing that sets him apart from others! With his limited vocabulary, and using language that would put any good 'fishwife' to shame, he takes no prisoners! Treating everyone and everything in exactly the same manner, this is both poetically and politically incorrect, but, should raise a few 'titters' in between the serious, heart-rending, tear invoking, emotional stuff! NOT FOR KIDS or the humorously disadvantaged!

Book Synopsis The Feeling of Life Itself by : Christof Koch
Download or read book The Feeling of Life Itself written by Christof Koch and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2020-09-08 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thought-provoking argument that consciousness—more widespread than previously assumed—is the feeling of being alive, not a type of computation or a clever hack In The Feeling of Life Itself, Christof Koch offers a straightforward definition of consciousness as any subjective experience, from the most mundane to the most exalted—the feeling of being alive. Psychologists study which cognitive operations underpin a given conscious perception. Neuroscientists track the neural correlates of consciousness in the brain, the organ of the mind. But why the brain and not, say, the liver? How can the brain—three pounds of highly excitable matter, a piece of furniture in the universe, subject to the same laws of physics as any other piece—give rise to subjective experience? Koch argues that what is needed to answer these questions is a quantitative theory that starts with experience and proceeds to the brain. In The Feeling of Life Itself, Koch outlines such a theory, based on integrated information. Koch describes how the theory explains many facts about the neurology of consciousness and how it has been used to build a clinically useful consciousness meter. The theory predicts that many, and perhaps all, animals experience the sights and sounds of life; consciousness is much more widespread than conventionally assumed. Contrary to received wisdom, however, Koch argues that programmable computers will not have consciousness. Even a perfect software model of the brain is not conscious. Its simulation is fake consciousness. Consciousness is not a special type of computation—it is not a clever hack. Consciousness is about being.
