Book Synopsis A World of Poetic Ramblings and Rants by the Traveler by : Keegan Wilson
Download or read book A World of Poetic Ramblings and Rants by the Traveler written by Keegan Wilson and published by America Star Books. This book was released on 2013-08 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is not hard to explain if you have not heard of "Beat Poetry" or similar authors like Ginberg's "Howl and Other Poems." There are also "Beat Poets" like Anne Waldman, Michael McClure, Diane di Prima and Neal Cassady. Each one is great their own rights, as Keegan Wilson has become just as famous. Though this book by Keegan Wilson is "Beat Poetry," it also includes stories of real life, tales, folklore and Keegan's heart felt "Beat Poetry." This style does not rhyme, but flows to share what each style the authors choose. It is much harder to write and hope to be compared to more famous authors like Hemmingway, Frost and several others and Keegan does not try. "Beat Poetry" is very unique. Keegan says his writing holds a message, but also leaves it open for the reader's interpretation. Enjoy it because some may scare you or bring out tears, but very few possess the talent as "Beat Poets."

Book Synopsis On the Plain of Snakes by : Paul Theroux
Download or read book On the Plain of Snakes written by Paul Theroux and published by Eamon Dolan Books. This book was released on 2019 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Legendary travel writer Paul Theroux drives the entire length of the US-Mexico border, then goes deep into the hinterland, on the back roads of Chiapas and Oaxaca, to uncover the rich, layered world behind today's brutal headlines. Paul Theroux has spent his life crisscrossing the globe in search of the histories and peoples that give life to the places they call home. Now, as immigration debates boil around the world, Theroux has set out to explore a country key to understanding our current discourse: Mexico. Just south of the Arizona border, in the desert region of Sonora, he finds a place brimming with vitality, yet visibly marked by both the US Border Patrol looming to the north and mounting discord from within. With the same humanizing sensibility he employed in Deep South, Theroux stops to talk with residents, visits Zapotec mill workers in the highlands, and attends a Zapatista party meeting, communing with people of all stripes who remain south of the border even as their families brave the journey north. From the writer praised for his "curiosity and affection for humanity in all its forms" (New York Times Book Review), On the Plain of Snakes is an exploration of a region in conflict.

Book excerpt: "Paul Theroux has spent fifty years crossing the globe, adventuring in the exotic, seeking the rich history and folklore of the far away. Now, for the first time, in his tenth travel book, Theroux explores a piece of America--the Deep South. He finds there a paradoxical place, full of incomparable music, unparalleled cuisine, and yet also some of the nation's worst schools, housing, and unemployment rates. It's these parts of the South, so often ignored, that have caught Theroux's keen traveler's eye."--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Midwesterner contemplates the view of America from a remote Icelandic village: “A pleasure to read and ponder.” —Booklist (starred review) A Minnesotan of Icelandic ancestry, Bill Holm had traveled all over the world, gathering material for a number of rich and memorable books. Then he decided to journey to the land his family had long ago left behind for the United States, and moved into a town with one general store in a nation of a few hundred thousand people. This book recounts his time at Brimnes, his fisherman’s cottage on the shore of a creek in northern Iceland. There, he embarks on a very different life in a very different world, and from thousands of miles away, considers the fate of America—“my home, my citizenship, my burden”—in these provocative, compelling essays. “A master storyteller.” —Los Angeles Times “Bill Holm’s life in [this] place of spare beauty will make readers wish they had a Brimnes where they could restore their souls.” —Pioneer Press (St. Paul)

Download or read book Skyfaring written by Mark Vanhoenacker and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A poetic and nuanced exploration of the human experience of flight that reminds us of the full imaginative weight of our most ordinary journeys—and reawakens our capacity to be amazed. The twenty-first century has relegated airplane flight—a once remarkable feat of human ingenuity—to the realm of the mundane. Mark Vanhoenacker, a 747 pilot who left academia and a career in the business world to pursue his childhood dream of flight, asks us to reimagine what we—both as pilots and as passengers—are actually doing when we enter the world between departure and discovery. In a seamless fusion of history, politics, geography, meteorology, ecology, family, and physics, Vanhoenacker vaults across geographical and cultural boundaries; above mountains, oceans, and deserts; through snow, wind, and rain, renewing a simultaneously humbling and almost superhuman activity that affords us unparalleled perspectives on the planet we inhabit and the communities we form.
