Book Synopsis Wind-tunnel Investigation of a Revised Horizontal Tail Surface for the Grumman TBF-1 Airplane by : John W. McKee
Download or read book Wind-tunnel Investigation of a Revised Horizontal Tail Surface for the Grumman TBF-1 Airplane written by John W. McKee and published by . This book was released on 1943 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was made in the LMAL 7- by 10-foot tunnel of the aerodynamic characteristics of a revised 0.5-scale model of the Grumman TBF-1 left horizontal tail surface. The investigation was undertaken to determine if a horizontal tail surface with a large overhang would reduce the high stick forces in maneuvers that the airplane had with the original horn-balanced elevator, without appreciably affecting the longitudinal stability characteristics of the airplane.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Force-test measurements in two-dimensional flow have been made in the NACA 4- by 6-foot vertical tunnel to determine the aerodynamic effects of changing the alignment of the cover plates on a sealed internally balanced flap. An NACA 0015 airfoil was utilized for the tests. The chord of the straight-contour flap was 30 percent of the airfoil chord and the balance with 50 percent of the flap chord.

Book Synopsis Wind-tunnel Investigation of Rounded Horns and of Guards on a Horizontal Tail Surface by : Robert B. Liddell
Download or read book Wind-tunnel Investigation of Rounded Horns and of Guards on a Horizontal Tail Surface written by Robert B. Liddell and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: An investigation was made to determine the aerodynamic effects of horn balances with various plan forms and of guards on a horizontal tail surface. The results indicate that rounding the adjacent horn and stabilizer edges caused neglibible changes in the aerodynamic characteristics, except for the changes resulting from the decrease in the area momeent of the horn. The use of guards mounted between the stabilizer and horn was found to increase the slope of the lift curves with angle of attack or with elevator deflection. The negative slopes of the curves of hinge moment against angle of attack and elevator deflection increased as the guard area was increased.

Book Synopsis Wind Tunnel Investigation of Effect of Yaw on Lateral-stability Characteristics by : Isidore G. Recant
Download or read book Wind Tunnel Investigation of Effect of Yaw on Lateral-stability Characteristics written by Isidore G. Recant and published by . This book was released on 1942 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combinations of an NACA 23012 tapered wing and a circular fuselage having a wedge-shaped rear were tested in the NACA 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel to determine the effect of wing-fuselage interference on the lateral-stability of wing-fuselage interference on the lateral-stability characteristics. The model configurations represented a high-wing, a mid-wing, and a low-wing monoplane. For each configuration, tests were made with a partial-span split flap neutral and deflected 60 degrees and with and without a vertical tail. Tests of the fuselage alone and of the fuselage with the vertical tail were also made.
