Book excerpt: The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic -- a debate that continues in the twenty-first century. ++++ The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. Book Synopsis Revelation and Inspiration by : James Orr
Download or read book Revelation and Inspiration written by James Orr and published by . This book was released on 1910 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is written under the conviction that revelation and inspiration, in connection with the Bible, can only be defended in conjunction with a more positive view of the structure of the Bible itself than is at present prevalent. The three things imply each other -- a positive view of the structure of the Bible, the recognition of a true supernatural revelation in its history, and a belief, in accordance with the teaching of Christ and His apostles, in the inspiration of the record. The evidence for each of these three things yields support to faith in the other two. The critical appreciation of the Bible is helped by the recognition of the revelation contained in it, and of the character of inspiration attaching to the book which is the vehicle of the revelation. The revelation sustains faith in inspiration, and vice versa. From the unity of the three aspects results the conception of a Holy Scripture. - Preface.

Book Synopsis Faith in Hebrews by : Victor (Sung Yul) Rhee
Download or read book Faith in Hebrews written by Victor (Sung Yul) Rhee and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-05-15 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Victor (Sung Yul) Rhee argues that faith in Hebrews is both christologically and eschatologically oriented. In response to the assertion that faith in Hebrews is removed from Christ, he contends that the author of Hebrews portrays Jesus as both the model and object of faith. Rhee also maintains that the eschatological outlook in Hebrews is not the Hellenistic concept of visible and invisible reality, but the temporal orientation of present and future. The ethical aspects of faith must be interpreted within the context of Christology and eschatology to have a proper understanding of faith in Hebrews.

Book Synopsis Cosmology and Eschatology in Jewish and Christian Apocalypticism by : Yarbro Collins
Download or read book Cosmology and Eschatology in Jewish and Christian Apocalypticism written by Yarbro Collins and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-12-06 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume deals with Jewish and Christian apocalyptic texts and movements from the second century BCE through the fourth century CE. It focuses on two major themes, cosmology and eschatology; that is, views of structure of the universe including its religious function and interpretations of history and the future. The detailed historical and literary analysis of these themes are introduced by an essay on the cultural gap between the original contexts of these texts and those of readers today and how that gap may be bridged. The book deals with the interrelations between post-biblical Judaism and early Christianity. The relevant Jewish texts and history are discussed thoroughly in their own right. The Christian material is approached in a way which shows both its continuity with Jewish tradition and its distinctiveness.
