Yet no invention has ever called forth more opposition and ridicule than theirs. In an interview in the Wheeling Intelligencer (Oct. 26, 1883), Gov. Robie, the then chief executive of Maine, remarked: "It is really very difficult to get all the facts of the case. In reading carefully upon this subject, however, certain things of which we can be fairly sure, gradually stand out. These we should summarize as follows: 1.
