Download or read book Introduction to Algebra and Trigonometry written by Bernard Kolman and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 621 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Algebra and Trigonometry provides a complete and self-contained presentation of the fundamentals of algebra and trigonometry. This book describes an axiomatic development of the foundations of algebra, defining complex numbers that are used to find the roots of any quadratic equation. Advanced concepts involving complex numbers are also elaborated, including the roots of polynomials, functions and function notation, and computations with logarithms. This text also discusses trigonometry from a functional standpoint. The angles, triangles, and applications involving triangles are likewise treated. Other topics include analytic geometry, conic sections, and use of a coordinate system to prove theorems from plane, and matrix operations and inverses. This publication is valuable to students aiming to gain more knowledge of the fundamentals of mathematics.
Book Synopsis Advanced Algebra by : Anthony W. Knapp
Download or read book Advanced Algebra written by Anthony W. Knapp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-10-11 with total page 730 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basic Algebra and Advanced Algebra systematically develop concepts and tools in algebra that are vital to every mathematician, whether pure or applied, aspiring or established. Advanced Algebra includes chapters on modern algebra which treat various topics in commutative and noncommutative algebra and provide introductions to the theory of associative algebras, homological algebras, algebraic number theory, and algebraic geometry. Many examples and hundreds of problems are included, along with hints or complete solutions for most of the problems. Together the two books give the reader a global view of algebra and its role in mathematics as a whole.
Book Synopsis Elements of Trigonometry by : William Charles Brenke
Download or read book Elements of Trigonometry written by William Charles Brenke and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-23 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Trigonometry: With Tables This book contains, in revised form and with some additions, the material of the chapters on trigonometry found in the author's text book on Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry. The theory of the subject is here presented in a manner as direct and elementary as possible, and much attention is given to the applications, which are brought out in numerous examples and exercises. These cover a sufficient range to give the student in technical courses a working knowledge of trigonometry as a tool. Great care has been taken to make the illustrations instructive, and a large amount of graphic work is called for in the exercises throughout the text. The presentation of spherical trigonometry, with applications to the terrestrial globe and to practical astronomy; has been reduced to the space of 17 pages, which will be found to contain a fair introduction to the subject. If this is to be included with plane trigonometry in a three-hour course, the work in identities and in the numerical solution of triangles should be reduced to a mini mum. Four-place tables are appended to the text, in the belief that they are sufficient for a large range of practical applications, and, be cause of their brevity, are less confusing to beginners and enable them to get results in less time than would be the case with more extensive tables. The explanation of the table of logarithms is made on the assumption that the student has no knowledge of the subject of logarithms. Answers are given to nearly all of the odd-numbered exercises. This gives the instructor the liberty of assigning exercises with or without given answers, as may seem best. For the convenience of the student a protractor is provided and will be found inside the back cover. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Synopsis College Algebra & Trigonometry by : Julie Miller
Download or read book College Algebra & Trigonometry written by Julie Miller and published by McGraw-Hill Education. This book was released on 2016-01-04 with total page 1264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Julie Miller wrote her developmental math series because students were coming into her Precalculus course underprepared. They weren’t mathematically mature enough to understand the concepts of math nor were they fully engaged with the material. She began her developmental mathematics offerings with intermediate algebra to help bridge that gap. The Precalculus series is a carefully constructed end to that bridge that uses the highly effective pedagogical features from her fastest growing developmental math series. What sets Julie Miller’s series apart is that it addresses course issues through an author-created digital package that maintains a consistent voice and notation throughout the program. This consistency--in videos, PowerPoints, Lecture Notes, and Group Activities--coupled with the power of ALEKS and Connect Hosted by ALEKS, ensures that students master the skills necessary to be successful in Precalculus and can carry them through to the calculus sequence.
Book Synopsis Heavenly Mathematics by : Glen Van Brummelen
Download or read book Heavenly Mathematics written by Glen Van Brummelen and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spherical trigonometry was at the heart of astronomy and ocean-going navigation for two millennia. The discipline was a mainstay of mathematics education for centuries, and it was a standard subject in high schools until the 1950s. Today, however, it is rarely taught. Heavenly Mathematics traces the rich history of this forgotten art, revealing how the cultures of classical Greece, medieval Islam, and the modern West used spherical trigonometry to chart the heavens and the Earth. Glen Van Brummelen explores this exquisite branch of mathematics and its role in ancient astronomy, geography, and cartography; Islamic religious rituals; celestial navigation; polyhedra; stereographic projection; and more. He conveys the sheer beauty of spherical trigonometry, providing readers with a new appreciation for its elegent proofs and often surprising conclusions. Heavenly Mathematics is illustrated throughout with stunning historical images and informative drawings and diagrams that have been used to teach the subject in the past. This unique compendium also features easy-to-use appendixes as well as exercises at the end of each chapter that originally appeared in textbooks from the eighteenth to the early twentieth centuries. -- Jacket.
