Cognitive psychologists, curriculum specialists, teacher educators, and researchers have developed a two-dimensional framework, focusing on knowledge and cognitive processes. In combination, these two define what students are expected to learn in school. It explores curriculums from three unique perspectives-cognitive psychologists (learning emphasis), curriculum specialists and teacher educators (C & I emphasis), and measurement and assessment experts (assessment emphasis). This revisited framework allows you to connect learning in all areas of curriculum. Educators, or others interested in educational psychology or educational methods for grades K-12.
Book Synopsis Encyclopedia of the Sciences of Learning by : Norbert M. Seel

This book was released on 2011-10-05 with total page 3643 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past century, educational psychologists and researchers have posited many theories to explain how individuals learn, i.e. how they acquire, organize and deploy knowledge and skills. The 20th century can be considered the century of psychology on learning and related fields of interest (such as motivation, cognition, metacognition etc.) and it is fascinating to see the various mainstreams of learning, remembered and forgotten over the 20th century and note that basic assumptions of early theories survived several paradigm shifts of psychology and epistemology. Beyond folk psychology and its naïve theories of learning, psychological learning theories can be grouped into some basic categories, such as behaviorist learning theories, connectionist learning theories, cognitive learning theories, constructivist learning theories, and social learning theories. Learning theories are not limited to psychology and related fields of interest but rather we can find the topic of learning in various disciplines, such as philosophy and epistemology, education, information science, biology, and – as a result of the emergence of computer technologies – especially also in the field of computer sciences and artificial intelligence. As a consequence, machine learning struck a chord in the 1980s and became an important field of the learning sciences in general. As the learning sciences became more specialized and complex, the various fields of interest were widely spread and separated from each other; as a consequence, even presently, there is no comprehensive overview of the sciences of learning or the central theoretical concepts and vocabulary on which researchers rely. The Encyclopedia of the Sciences of Learning provides an up-to-date, broad and authoritative coverage of the specific terms mostly used in the sciences of learning and its related fields, including relevant areas of instruction, pedagogy, cognitive sciences, and especially machine learning and knowledge engineering. This modern compendium will be an indispensable source of information for scientists, educators, engineers, and technical staff active in all fields of learning. More specifically, the Encyclopedia provides fast access to the most relevant theoretical terms provides up-to-date, broad and authoritative coverage of the most important theories within the various fields of the learning sciences and adjacent sciences and communication technologies; supplies clear and precise explanations of the theoretical terms, cross-references to related entries and up-to-date references to important research and publications. The Encyclopedia also contains biographical entries of individuals who have substantially contributed to the sciences of learning; the entries are written by a distinguished panel of researchers in the various fields of the learning sciences.

Book Synopsis Cognitive Psychology Principles for Digital Systems Training by : William Richard Sanders
Download or read book Cognitive Psychology Principles for Digital Systems Training written by William Richard Sanders and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "As the Army transitions to modern digital technology it faces a major challenge in designing computer-implemented training to support the acquisition, retention, and transfer of skills required to operate these systems. This report describes principles of cognitive psychology and related training techniques that can be incorporated into the design of computer-implemented training. While modern computers and the Internet offer technically advanced capabilities, the training potential of these systems comes from their ability to vary instructional methods and media systematically according to the cognitive demands of the tasks to be trained. The research described in this report builds on previous ARI skill retention research accomplished with the Army's Inter- Vehicular Information System (IVIS), where it was noted that a number of cognitive psychology principles might be applied to modify training to enhance skill retention. The products of this research are a set of cognitive psychology principles and related training techniques summarized in tabular form, and an outline for a training program structure. Examples of prototype training materials demonstrating the implementation of the cognitive training techniques are provided."--Stinet.
Book Synopsis Classification in the Wild by : Konstantinos V. Katsikopoulos
Download or read book Classification in the Wild written by Konstantinos V. Katsikopoulos and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rules for building formal models that use fast-and-frugal heuristics, extending the psychological study of classification to the real world of uncertainty. This book focuses on classification--allocating objects into categories--"in the wild," in real-world situations and far from the certainty of the lab. In the wild, unlike in typical psychological experiments, the future is not knowable and uncertainty cannot be meaningfully reduced to probability. Connecting the science of heuristics with machine learning, the book shows how to create formal models using classification rules that are simple, fast, and transparent and that can be as accurate as mathematically sophisticated algorithms developed for machine learning.
Book Synopsis A Taxonomy of Response Processes by : Elmo Everett Miller
Download or read book A Taxonomy of Response Processes written by Elmo Everett Miller and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A system for classifying perceptual-motor tasks was devised for the purpose of distinguishing the kinds of training strategy appropriate for each task. A rationale is presented and various task elements are delineated in terms of cue functions, image or mediational functions, and movement tendency. The defined task elements were used in constructing two classifications: one of training strategies, and one of tasks. The classification of training strategies deals with the operational conditions of practice and the diagnosis of the underlying behavioral process. Task sub-classes have been distinguished. Also, the kinds of training strategies have been related to the classes of tasks, as a preliminary investigation of how well the task classification accomplished its purpose.
