Book Synopsis Handbook of Elliptic Integrals for Engineers and Physicists by : Paul F. Byrd
Download or read book Handbook of Elliptic Integrals for Engineers and Physicists written by Paul F. Byrd and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineers and physicists are more and more encountering integrations involving nonelementary integrals and higher transeendental functions. Such integrations frequently involve (not always in immediately re cognizable form) elliptic functions and elliptic integrals. The numerous books written on elliptic integrals, while of great value to the student or mathematician, are not especially suitable for the scientist whose primary objective is the ready evaluation of the integrals that occur in his practical problems. As a result, he may entirely avoid problems which lead to elliptic integrals, or is likely to resort to graphical methods or other means of approximation in dealing with all but the siruplest of these integrals. It became apparent in the course of my work in theoretical aero dynamics that there was a need for a handbook embodying in convenient form a comprehensive table of elliptic integrals together with auxiliary formulas and numerical tables of values. Feeling that such a book would save the engineer and physicist much valuable time, I prepared the present volume.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walter Gautschi has written extensively on topics ranging from special functions, quadrature and orthogonal polynomials to difference and differential equations, software implementations, and the history of mathematics. He is world renowned for his pioneering work in numerical analysis and constructive orthogonal polynomials, including a definitive textbook in the former, and a monograph in the latter area. This three-volume set, Walter Gautschi: Selected Works with Commentaries, is a compilation of Gautschi’s most influential papers and includes commentaries by leading experts. The work begins with a detailed biographical section and ends with a section commemorating Walter’s prematurely deceased twin brother. This title will appeal to graduate students and researchers in numerical analysis, as well as to historians of science. Book Synopsis Theory and Application of Special Functions by : Richard Askey
Download or read book Theory and Application of Special Functions written by Richard Askey and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory and Application of Special Functions contains the proceedings of the Advanced Seminar on Special Functions sponsored by the Mathematics Research Center of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and held from March 31 to April 2, 1975. The seminar tackled the theory and application of special functions and covered topics ranging from the asymptotic estimation of special functions to association schemes and coding theory. Some interesting results, conjectures, and problems are given. Comprised of 13 chapters, this book begins with a survey of computational methods in special functions, followed by a discussion on unsolved problems in the asymptotic estimation of special functions. The reader is then introduced to periodic Bernoulli numbers, summation formulas, and applications; problems and prospects for basic hypergeometric functions; and linear growth models with many types and multidimensional Hahn polynomials. Subsequent chapters explore two-variable analogues of the classical orthogonal polynomials; special functions of matrix and single argument in statistics; and some properties of the determinants of orthogonal polynomials. This monograph is intended primarily for students and practitioners of mathematics.
Book Synopsis The Duffing Equation by : Ivana Kovacic
Download or read book The Duffing Equation written by Ivana Kovacic and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-02-11 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Duffing Equation: Nonlinear Oscillators and their Behaviour brings together the results of a wealth of disseminated research literature on the Duffing equation, a key engineering model with a vast number of applications in science and engineering, summarizing the findings of this research. Each chapter is written by an expert contributor in the field of nonlinear dynamics and addresses a different form of the equation, relating it to various oscillatory problems and clearly linking the problem with the mathematics that describe it. The editors and the contributors explain the mathematical techniques required to study nonlinear dynamics, helping the reader with little mathematical background to understand the text. The Duffing Equation provides a reference text for postgraduate and students and researchers of mechanical engineering and vibration / nonlinear dynamics as well as a useful tool for practising mechanical engineers. Includes a chapter devoted to historical background on Georg Duffing and the equation that was named after him. Includes a chapter solely devoted to practical examples of systems whose dynamic behaviour is described by the Duffing equation. Contains a comprehensive treatment of the various forms of the Duffing equation. Uses experimental, analytical and numerical methods as well as concepts of nonlinear dynamics to treat the physical systems in a unified way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ADI Model Problem presents the theoretical foundations of Alternating Direction Implicit (ADI) iteration for systems with both real and complex spectra and extends early work for real spectra into the complex plane with methods for computing optimum iteration parameters for both one and two variable problems. This book provides application of theory to the solution of boundary value problems and description of stable similarity reduction of a full matrix to low-band upper Hessenberg form, with application to computation of eigenvalues and solution of Lyapunov and Sylvester equations. Also included are MATLAB programs and numerical verification of theory and applications.
