Book Synopsis World Nitrogen Survey by : William F. Sheldrick
Download or read book World Nitrogen Survey written by William F. Sheldrick and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nitrogen is an important raw material for the chemical and fertilizer industries. Almost all nitrogen products are derived from ammonia, and about 85 percent goes to fertilizer use. This report examines the world nitrogen industry and its outlook through 1995/96. Although the nitrogen fertilizer industry grew very rapidly during the 1960s, it recently declined owing to a depressed world agricultural situation which resulted in surplus supplies with very low prices. In a period of oversupply and with a depressed agricultural market, nitrogen fertilizer prices are expected to remain low. After 1988/89, however, the surplus balance will diminish, and prices are forecast to rise sharply and peak in the early 1990s. But they will probably decline again toward the mid-1990s after new capacity comes on stream. A detailed examination has been made in this paper of the total costs of producing urea and ammonia and how this is likely to be affected by future energy prices, plant location, and utilization rates. After 1990 it is estimated that at least 10 new nitrogen fertilizer plants will be needed each year through 1995 to meet increasing demand and to replace worn-out plants.
Book Synopsis WHO Guidelines for Indoor Air Quality by :
Download or read book WHO Guidelines for Indoor Air Quality written by and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2010 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents WHO guidelines for the protection of public health from risks due to a number of chemicals commonly present in indoor air. The substances considered in this review, i.e. benzene, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, naphthalene, nitrogen dioxide, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (especially benzo[a]pyrene), radon, trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene, have indoor sources, are known in respect of their hazardousness to health and are often found indoors in concentrations of health concern. The guidelines are targeted at public health professionals involved in preventing health risks of environmental exposures, as well as specialists and authorities involved in the design and use of buildings, indoor materials and products. They provide a scientific basis for legally enforceable standards.

Download or read book Reactive Nitrogen in the Environment written by Elizabeth Braun and published by UNEP/Earthprint. This book was released on 2007 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This non-technical report summarises the present scientific understanding of the major issues surrounding reactive nitrogen, and discusses the overarching environmental, human health and economic issues created by both excesses and deficiencies. The report provides case studies of effective policy implementation and reviews emerging policies to show how negative impacts associated with reactive nitrogen may be successfully addressed locally, nationally and regionally, given similar challenges, shared experiences and effective solutions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents a cost analysis of Nitrogen recovery from air. The process examined is a typical cryogenic distillation process. In this process, Nitrogen is separated from air, using distillation columns under cryogenic conditions. Nitrogen main product and oxygen byproduct are produced as high pressurized gases. This report was developed based essentially on the following reference(s): (1) Industrial Gases Processing, 2006 (2) "Cryogenic Technology,"Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology, 4th edition Keywords: Cryogenic Distillation, Linde, Praxair, Air Separation Unit, ASU

Book Synopsis The Synthetic Nitrogen Industry in World War I by : Anthony S. Travis
Download or read book The Synthetic Nitrogen Industry in World War I written by Anthony S. Travis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-03 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise brief describes how the demands of World War I, often referred to as the Chemists’ War, led to the rapid emergence of a new key industry based on fixation of atmospheric nitrogen. Then, as now, nitrogen products, including nitric acid, and nitrates, were essential for both fertilizers and in the manufacture of modern explosives. During the first decade of the twentieth century, this stimulated research into and application of novel processes. This book illustrates how from late 1914 the relations and developments in the first modern military-industrial complex enabled the great capital expenditures and technological advances that accelerated massive expansion, particularly of the BASF Haber-Bosch high-pressure process, that determined the direction of the post-war chemical industry.
