Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At publication, The Control Handbook immediately became the definitive resource that engineers working with modern control systems required. Among its many accolades, that first edition was cited by the AAP as the Best Engineering Handbook of 1996. Now, 15 years later, William Levine has once again compiled the most comprehensive and authoritative resource on control engineering. He has fully reorganized the text to reflect the technical advances achieved since the last edition and has expanded its contents to include the multidisciplinary perspective that is making control engineering a critical component in so many fields. Now expanded from one to three volumes, The Control Handbook, Second Edition brilliantly organizes cutting-edge contributions from more than 200 leading experts representing every corner of the globe. They cover everything from basic closed-loop systems to multi-agent adaptive systems and from the control of electric motors to the control of complex networks. Progressively organized, the three volume set includes: Control System Fundamentals Control System Applications Control System Advanced Methods Any practicing engineer, student, or researcher working in fields as diverse as electronics, aeronautics, or biomedicine will find this handbook to be a time-saving resource filled with invaluable formulas, models, methods, and innovative thinking. In fact, any physicist, biologist, mathematician, or researcher in any number of fields developing or improving products and systems will find the answers and ideas they need. As with the first edition, the new edition not only stands as a record of accomplishment in control engineering but provides researchers with the means to make further advances.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control and Dynamic Systems, Volume 22: Decentralized/Distributed Control and Dynamic Systems, Part 1 deals with advances in techniques for the analysis and synthesis of decentralized or distributed control and dynamic systems. This book begins with a unique presentation of important results and techniques that decentralized control systems often face due to the fact that the individual systems in a collection or set of decentralized control systems are somewhat incomplete. The controllability, observability, implications, and powerful techniques for stabilization and control of decentralized systems are also discussed. The next chapters describe the covariance equivalent realizations with application to model reductions of large-scale systems and decentralized estimation and control of one-way connected subsystems. This publication concludes with a presentation of the multivariable feedback and decentralized control that reviews fundamental results extending multivariable theory from conventional control systems to the highly challenging problems of decentralized control. This volume is beneficial to students and researchers conducting work on decentralized or distributed control and dynamic systems.

Book excerpt: Complexity and dynamic order of controlled engineering systems is constantly increasing. Complex large scale systems (where "large" reflects the system’s order and not necessarily its physical size) appear in many engineering fields, such as micro-electromechanics, manufacturing, aerospace, civil engineering and power engineering. Modeling of these systems often result in very high-order models imposing great challenges to the analysis, design and control problems. "Efficient Modeling and Control of Large-Scale Systems" compiles state-of-the-art contributions on recent analytical and computational methods for addressing model reduction, performance analysis and feedback control design for such systems. Also addressed at length are new theoretical developments, novel computational approaches and illustrative applications to various fields, along with: - An interdisciplinary focus emphasizing methods and approaches that can be commonly applied in various engineering fields -Examinations of applications in various fields including micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), manufacturing processes, power networks, traffic control "Efficient Modeling and Control of Large-Scale Systems" is an ideal volume for engineers and researchers working in the fields of control and dynamic systems.

It also includes articles on many computational issues and techniques. This volume discusses parameter estimation or determination in large-scale systems; use of system zeros in the decentralized control of large-scale systems; and model reference adaptive control for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. The final chapters present some simplified but highly effective and powerful control techniques for decentralized but coordinated control systems. This book is a valuable reference for practitioners in many important applied situations.

This book was released on 2010-10-27 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many problems in decision making, monitoring, fault detection, and control require the knowledge of state variables and time-varying parameters that are not directly measured by sensors. In such situations, observers, or estimators, can be employed that use the measured input and output signals along with a dynamic model of the system in order to estimate the unknown states or parameters. An essential requirement in designing an observer is to guarantee the convergence of the estimates to the true values or at least to a small neighborhood around the true values. However, for nonlinear, large-scale, or time-varying systems, the design and tuning of an observer is generally complicated and involves large computational costs. This book provides a range of methods and tools to design observers for nonlinear systems represented by a special type of a dynamic nonlinear model -- the Takagi--Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model. The TS model is a convex combination of affine linear models, which facilitates its stability analysis and observer design by using effective algorithms based on Lyapunov functions and linear matrix inequalities. Takagi--Sugeno models are known to be universal approximators and, in addition, a broad class of nonlinear systems can be exactly represented as a TS system. Three particular structures of large-scale TS models are considered: cascaded systems, distributed systems, and systems affected by unknown disturbances. The reader will find in-depth theoretic analysis accompanied by illustrative examples and simulations of real-world systems. Stability analysis of TS fuzzy systems is addressed in detail. The intended audience are graduate students and researchers both from academia and industry. For newcomers to the field, the book provides a concise introduction dynamic TS fuzzy models along with two methods to construct TS models for a given nonlinear system
