Book Synopsis Research Reactor Spent Fuel Management: Options and Support to Decision Making by : IAEA
Download or read book Research Reactor Spent Fuel Management: Options and Support to Decision Making written by IAEA and published by International Atomic Energy Agency. This book was released on 2021-12-14 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication, resulting from an IAEA coordinated research project (CRP), provides information about available strategies for research reactor spent fuel management, and presents a decision methodology to assist those selecting among several options, to identify the preferred approach for their specific situation. The decision support tools were developed to consider not only the cost of the possible research reactor spent fuel management strategies, but also the non-economic factors that might influence their selection. Examples of the technologies that are currently used by some IAEA Member States are provided. Additionally, this publication provides information about the Excel based decision-support tools developed as part of this CRP, along with case studies and tutorials to assist users.
Book Synopsis Expanding and Optimizing Fuel Management and Data Analysis Capabilities of MCODE-FM in Support of Massachusetts Institute of Technology Research Reactor (MITR-II) LEU Conversion by : Nicholas Edward Horelik
Download or read book Expanding and Optimizing Fuel Management and Data Analysis Capabilities of MCODE-FM in Support of Massachusetts Institute of Technology Research Reactor (MITR-II) LEU Conversion written by Nicholas Edward Horelik and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies are underway in support of the MIT research reactor (MITR-II) conversion from high enriched Uranium (HEU) to low enriched Uranium (LEU), as required by recent non-proliferation policy. With the same core configuration and similar assembly type, high-density monolithic U-Mo fuel will replace the current HEU fuel with comparable performance. Part of the required analysis for relicensing includes detailed fuel management and burnup studies with the new LEU fuel, to be carried out with a recently developed fuel management tool called MCODE-FM. This code-package is a Python wrapper enabling automatic fuel shuffling between successive runs of MIT's MCODE, which couples MCNP with ORIGEN for full-core neutronics and depletion. In this work, the capabilities of MCODE have been expanded, and the effects of depletion mesh parameters have been explored. Several features have been added to the fuel management tool to encompass the the full range of fuel management options needed for detailed analysis, including assembly flipping, rotation, and temporary storage above the core. In addition, an option to easily manage experiments and custom dummy elements has been added, and a parallel version of MCODE for MCODE-FM that better handles finer discretizations of full-core runs has been developed. These changes have been made in the main wrapper utility as well as the graphical user interface (GUI). In addition to the new MCODE-FM capabilities, a suite of automatic data analysis utilities were developed to consistently parse results. These include utilities to extract or calculate isotope data, fission powers, blade heights, peaking factors, and 3D VTK files for visualization at any time step. The suite has been developed as a series of Python scripts, accessible also through the MCODE-FM GUI. Finally, the effects of the spatial discretization parameters for the depletion mesh have been explored, and mesh choice recommendations have been made for different types of studies. In summary, coarser meshes in the radial and lateral dimensions have been found to yield conservative power peaking results, whereas a finer axial mesh is needed axially. Thus for iterative fuel management studies a fast-running depletion mesh of 8 axial regions, 3 radial regions, and 1 lateral region can be used. However, for safety studies and benchmarking that only need to run once or twice, 16 axial regions, 15 or 18 radial regions (HEU or LEU, respectively), and 4 lateral regions should be used.

Book Synopsis The Control Handbook (three volume set) by : William S. Levine
Download or read book The Control Handbook (three volume set) written by William S. Levine and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 3379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At publication, The Control Handbook immediately became the definitive resource that engineers working with modern control systems required. Among its many accolades, that first edition was cited by the AAP as the Best Engineering Handbook of 1996. Now, 15 years later, William Levine has once again compiled the most comprehensive and authoritative resource on control engineering. He has fully reorganized the text to reflect the technical advances achieved since the last edition and has expanded its contents to include the multidisciplinary perspective that is making control engineering a critical component in so many fields. Now expanded from one to three volumes, The Control Handbook, Second Edition brilliantly organizes cutting-edge contributions from more than 200 leading experts representing every corner of the globe. They cover everything from basic closed-loop systems to multi-agent adaptive systems and from the control of electric motors to the control of complex networks. Progressively organized, the three volume set includes: Control System Fundamentals Control System Applications Control System Advanced Methods Any practicing engineer, student, or researcher working in fields as diverse as electronics, aeronautics, or biomedicine will find this handbook to be a time-saving resource filled with invaluable formulas, models, methods, and innovative thinking. In fact, any physicist, biologist, mathematician, or researcher in any number of fields developing or improving products and systems will find the answers and ideas they need. As with the first edition, the new edition not only stands as a record of accomplishment in control engineering but provides researchers with the means to make further advances.
