For, professing myself but little acquainted with Geology, as a study, and remote from those sources from whence such knowledge might be obtained, I have ventured on the subject; having been invited, as it were, by the circumstances around me: at a time when there are no books of established authority, and sufficiently explanatory, within my reach, to assist me in giving names to, or, in classing the numerous varieties of Organic Remains, which 1 have collected in this neighbourhood.
