Download or read book Parent Involvement and Student Achievement in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries written by Shefa Salem Alhashmi and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research builds on the literature about the influence of parental involvement on student achievement by looking at this relationship in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. The purpose of the study is three-fold. First, the study sought to determine whether parents education and occupation influence the level of parent involvement in childrens schooling indicated through: early literacy activities, the expectation of educational attainment, help with homework, and time spent reading outside of school. Second, the study examines whether these indicators are significant predictors of student achievement. Third, the study looks at the moderation effect of school composition on the relationship between some of the parent involvement variables and reading achievement. Data were obtained from the Program of International Reading Literacy Study (2016), specifically the responses from parent and student questionnaires. Analysis employing the method of ordinary least regression confirms that there is a significant, positive relationship between parent education and occupation and parent involvement indicators in addition to a significant positive relationship between the later and student achievement with the single exception of help with homework, which had a negative relationship with parent education and occupation and with student achievement. Implications of the findings emphasize the importance of education policies that promote parental-school partnership with consideration of the family socioeconomic background.
Book Synopsis Parental Involvement Predicts Student Success by : Laurie Bandlow
Download or read book Parental Involvement Predicts Student Success written by Laurie Bandlow and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013-01 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author studied the relationship between parental involvement and academic achievement in language arts and math and the extent to which parental involvement helps predict language arts and math achievement among elementary school students. In a quantitative, non-experimental study using a descriptive, correlational research design with multiple linear regression analysis, she found a significant relationship between achievement in language arts and mathematics and parental efficacy. The study population was comprised of parents of 4th-, 5th-, and 6th-grade students in 3 elementary schools in a working-class urban New Jersey school district diverse in ethnicity and language and high in poverty. She found significant relationships between parenting skills and parental efficacy and student achievement in language arts and mathematics. As parenting skills and parental efficacy increased, the level of student achievement in both subject areas also increased. Social networking was also found to correlate with higher student achievement.
