Despite this fact, an increasing number of sexual activities is being reported by Nepalese students. The main objectives of the study are to examine students' attitudes toward premarital sexual relationship and to assess students' prevalence of premarital sexual intercourse. A large variation in attitude regarding female and male virginity at marriage was observed by sex. Boys have liberal attitude towards female and male virginity at marriage. Acceptance of premarital sex was less prevalent among girls than boys. The study found that individual, family and peer characteristics had the main effects on premarital sex. Despite strong social and cultural taboos, college students in Nepal are not only involved in premarital sex but also in risky sexual behavior. Young people are exposed to health hazards due to their sexual behavior; hence sex education should be provided. School or college based sexuality education could benefit even out-of-school youths, because their partners often are students.

Book excerpt: A closer look into the new sexual culture on college campuses It happens every weekend: In a haze of hormones and alcohol, groups of male and female college students meet at a frat party, a bar, or hanging out in a dorm room, and then hook up for an evening of sex first, questions later. As casually as the sexual encounter begins, so it often ends with no strings attached; after all, it was “just a hook up.” While a hook up might mean anything from kissing to oral sex to going all the way, the lack of commitment is paramount. Hooking Up is an intimate look at how and why college students get together, what hooking up means to them, and why it has replaced dating on college campuses. In surprisingly frank interviews, students reveal the circumstances that have led to the rise of the booty call and the death of dinner-and-a-movie. Whether it is an expression of postfeminist independence or a form of youthful rebellion, hooking up has become the only game in town on many campuses. In Hooking Up, Kathleen A. Bogle argues that college life itself promotes casual relationships among students on campus. The book sheds light on everything from the differences in what young men and women want from a hook up to why freshmen girls are more likely to hook up than their upper-class sisters and the effects this period has on the sexual and romantic relationships of both men and women after college. Importantly, she shows us that the standards for young men and women are not as different as they used to be, as women talk about “friends with benefits” and “one and done” hook ups. Breaking through many misconceptions about casual sex on college campuses, Hooking Up is the first book to understand the new sexual culture on its own terms, with vivid real-life stories of young men and women as they navigate the newest sexual revolution.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An 18-month study of the attitudes and values of today's college women regarding sexuality, dating, courtship, and marriage, involving in-depth interviews with a diverse group of 62 college women on 11 campuses, supplemented by 20-minute telephone interviews with a nationally representative sample of 1,000 college women yielded several major findings. Marriage appears to be a life goal for the majority of these women, and most would like to meet a spouse while at college. However, there are important aspects of the college social scene that appear to undermine the likelihood of achieving the goal of a successful future marriage. For example, since 1980, women have outnumbered men attending college. Relationships between college men and women today are often characterized by either too little commitment or too much, leaving women with few opportunities to explore the marriage worthiness of a variety of men before settling into a long-term commitment. "Hooking up," a distinctive sex-without-commitment interaction, is widespread on campuses and profoundly influences campus culture even though a minority of students engage in this practice. The term "hooking up" is ambiguous, and could mean anything from kissing to sex. "Dating" has multiple meanings for college women today, ranging from being in an exclusive relationship to casual friendship. College women find it difficult to know when college men consider themselves in a committed relationship. There are few widely recognized social norms on college campuses that define courtship, and social expectations, adult involvement, and guidance about relationships are lacking for most college students. Some recommendations are made to support the creation of socially prescribed rules and norms to guide young people toward marriage. Four appendixes discuss the methodology, list the members of the research team, contain the interview guide, and present the national survey questionnaire. (Contains 3 figures and 14 endnotes.) Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: College students hook up and have sex. That is what many students expect to happen during their time at university—it is part of growing up and navigating the relationship scene on most American campuses today. But what do you do when you’re a student at an evangelical university? Students at these schools must negotiate a barrage of religiously imbued undercurrents that impact how they think about relationships, in addition to how they experience and evaluate them. As they work to form successful unions, students at evangelical colleges balance sacred ideologies of purity, holiness, and godliness, while also dealing with more mainstream notions of popularity, the online world, and the appeal of sexual intimacy. In From Single to Serious, Dana M. Malone shines a light on friendship, dating, and, sexuality, in both the ideals and the practical experiences of heterosexual students at U. S. evangelical colleges. She examines the struggles they have in balancing their gendered and religious presentations of self, the expectations of their campus community, and their desire to find meaningful romantic relationships.

The authors describe factors that affect the later course of marriage, trace historical roots of courtship, discuss models of courtship that have guided research in this area and examine circumstantial factors that discriminate between stable and unstable premarital relationships. They also explore the `dark side' of courtship - violence between dating partners - and reveal the processes involved in the dissolution phase of premarital relationships. The volume concludes with a look at the future of courtship as an institution and suggestions for further

Book excerpt: The growth rate of the global halal industry has increased in recent years, from 7.5% in 2015 to more than 8% in 2016 and is expected to continue to increase in 2017 and beyond. Indonesia in particular has great potential in the development of the halal industry sector because of the percentage of Indonesia’s population which constitutes 12.7% of the world’s Muslim population. The large potential of Indonesia in the halal industry sector can support national economic growth. The market for halal industry in Indonesia, especially the food, travel, fashion, medicines and cosmetics sectors has reached around 11% of the global market in 2016. Behind the development of the halal industry globally, there are challenges especially in the health sector. The fact about guaranteeing halal products on drugs is still very alarming because the data from LPPOM MUI shows that out of 30 thousand types of drugs registered with BPPOM and circulating in the community, only 34 drugs are halal certified. In the food sector, data shows that Indonesia is the highest spending country for halal food compared to other countries in the world with a total expenditure of 170 billion US dollars. In the field of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is inseparable in the development of human resources in the halal industry. The security and quality of the halal industry are also closely related to the quality of human resources and the nation’s competitiveness. The current development of the halal industry is fairly rapid in non-Muslim majority countries such as Thailand, South Korea, Russia, Mexico, Japan, and Spain. On the contrary, Indonesia has become a contested market target for halal products for foreign countries. This condition will backfire for Indonesia if there are no quick steps to follow up on this problem. Because Indonesian people will only be targeted by consumers in the halal industry market. Strengthening regulatory development programs based on science and scientific and evidence according to standard development programs as well as strengthening the system of guidance and supervision of industrial security and its implementation in anticipation of the digital era needs to be done. To answer this problem U-GO Healthy Forum will hold International seminars and Call for Paper with the theme “The Role of Health Expert in Solving Contemporary Issues in Halal Industry” as the initial step to strengthen the security system of the halal industry.
