Book Synopsis Autonomous Guided Vehicles by : Hamed Fazlollahtabar
Download or read book Autonomous Guided Vehicles written by Hamed Fazlollahtabar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-21 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides readers with extensive information on path planning optimization for both single and multiple Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs), and discusses practical issues involved in advanced industrial applications of AGVs. After discussing previously published research in the field and highlighting the current gaps, it introduces new models developed by the authors with the goal of reducing costs and increasing productivity and effectiveness in the manufacturing industry. The new models address the increasing complexity of manufacturing networks, due for example to the adoption of flexible manufacturing systems that involve automated material handling systems, robots, numerically controlled machine tools, and automated inspection stations, while also considering the uncertainty and stochastic nature of automated equipment such as AGVs. The book discusses and provides solutions to important issues concerning the use of AGVs in the manufacturing industry, including material flow optimization with AGVs, programming manufacturing systems equipped with AGVs, reliability models, the reliability of AGVs, routing under uncertainty, and risks involved in AGV-based transportation. The clear style and straightforward descriptions of problems and their solutions make the book an excellent resource for graduate students. Moreover, thanks to its practice-oriented approach, the novelty of the findings and the contemporary topic it reports on, the book offers new stimulus for researchers and practitioners in the broad field of production engineering.
Book Synopsis Advanced Guided Vehicles by : Stephen Cameron
Download or read book Advanced Guided Vehicles written by Stephen Cameron and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford University Robotics Research Group has been working for several years to improve the ability of automated guided vehicles. This book brings together much of the key research work on sensors and planning that was inspired by an industrial vehicle donated by a factory automation division in GEC, GEC-FAST, together with background material to provide a basic but up-to-date reference guide to autonomous vehicle research. The book includes work on control, sensing technologies, sensor management and data-fusion, different styles of path planning suited for off-line or online plans and task planning. It is designed to act both as a reference for the robotics professional, and as a text for university-level courses.

Book Synopsis Evaluation of Heuristic Control Strategies for AGV's (Automated Guided Vehicles) Under Varying Demand Arrival Patterns by : Russell E. King
Download or read book Evaluation of Heuristic Control Strategies for AGV's (Automated Guided Vehicles) Under Varying Demand Arrival Patterns written by Russell E. King and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the increasing emphasis on automation, Automated Guided Vehicles are becoming an important material handing tool in flexible manufacturing systems. The flexibility of AGV's present an interesting problem in the routing and scheduling of vehicles within the system. In this paper, we evaluate a control strategy, which is based on an analysis of the optimal control rules from a Markov Decision Process model. This strategy is compared to Vehicle Looks for Work (VLFW), which is a common control strategy used manufacturing systems today. Systems with asymmetric and symmetric demand arrivals are tested and compared for single and two vehicle systems using Monte Carlo simulation.
Book Synopsis Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences by : Wade H. Shafer
Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, SIld disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna and broader dissemination. tional publishing house to assure improved service Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 30 (thesis year 1985) a total of 12,400 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 186 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work.
Book Synopsis A Review of Design and Control of Automated Guided Vehicle Systems by : T. Le-Anh
Download or read book A Review of Design and Control of Automated Guided Vehicle Systems written by T. Le-Anh and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a review on design and control of automated guided vehicle systems. We address most key related issues including guide-path design, estimating the number ofvehicles, vehicle scheduling, idle-vehicle positioning, battery management, vehicle routing, and conflict resolution. We discuss and classify important models and results from key publications in literature on automated guided vehicle systems, including often-neglected areas, such as idle-vehicle positioning and battery management. In addition, we propose a decision framework for design and implementation of automated guided vehicle systems, and suggest some fruitful research directions.
