Our knowledge of it is derived almost entirely from the tombs, temples, and other funerary monuments which the Egyptians built in connection with the worship of their gods and their deified dead. The Egyptians never wrote history in the modern sense of the word. The reason why so few dates are given in the earlier part of the book will be apparent when the remarks on Egyptian chronology in Chapter X. Have been read.
