Book excerpt: CATECHISM FOR CHILDREN OF DIFFERING AGES This newly reprinted Catechism for Children presents the truths of the Faith in a profound, but age-appropriate way, testing children differently depending upon their age and grade, all the while using the same text as the basis. Though written years ago, this book has sadly fallen into disuse, except for the Dominican Sisters at Post Falls, who have used this title in their education program for some years. ILLUSTRATED WITH LESSONS, STORIES, AND PRAYERS Each chapter of this attractive and partially illustrated catechism begins with a story from the Gospel to help root the lesson in the words and life of Our Lord. After the Gospel story, children will review questions from previous lessons, and then proceeds to the lesson itself. After the lesson there is a small reflection on how the catechism lesson applies to the life of the child, followed by a short prayer, a Gospel text, and excitingly, a relation of the catechism lesson to the Sacred Liturgy of the Church. Put simply, this Catechism for Children is an excellent tool by which to teach the catechism, which will be a joy for parents, educators, and children alike.

Book Synopsis Hidden in the Heart by : Matt Friedeman
Download or read book Hidden in the Heart written by Matt Friedeman and published by . This book was released on 2013-10-28 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A catechism is simply a manual of instruction that derives its modern meaning from a Greek word (katecheo, to instruct). Some of the greatest minds of human history and of the Christian faith have trained their intellects with the question-answer format often associated with a catechism. It was once common in Christian practice to use the catechism as a teaching tool. For centuries prior to this one and for the fi rst half of the twentieth century, pastors, Sunday school teachers, and parents used the catechism as a primary tool for passing down the lessons of the Bible to the next generation. Sadly in America, this mode of instruction fell into disfavor in the last several decades as a result of modern education's deemphasis on rote memory. As biblical and theological illiteracy has grown, however, knowing a few biblical and theological facts is now recognized as essential in the attempt to regain a rich evangelical tradition. The catechism, thankfully, is making a comeback for teaching people about Christianity. A catechism is a short text, either in question-and-answer format or paragraph form, which contains explanations about the most fundamental Christian beliefs. It serves as a foundation for instructing children and new converts in the basics of the faith. It functions like the frame of a house-not complete by itself but providing an essential structure on which to attach every detail of the faith. "Hidden in the Heart" continues this centuries-old tradition by posing 132 questions and providing short, simple, accurate answers. The answers given in the catechism are not exhaustive. However, they offer a succinct explanation and a good beginning for further understanding.
Book Synopsis My Little Catechism by : Guillaume de Menthière
Download or read book My Little Catechism written by Guillaume de Menthière and published by Magnificat-Ignatius. This book was released on 2016-09-16 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This attractive and thorough little Catechism teaches children the beauty of the Catholic Faith by answering fundamental questions in easy-to-understand language. Centered on the profession of faith in the Apostles Creed, explanations are accompanied by Bible verses, prayers, and calls to action designed to help a child's faith develop into a vibrant, dynamic way of life. After each lesson there is a nice little summary Bible verse, a one sentence "We Believe" on the truth taught in the lesson, a "Put into Practice" sample of how to live the lesson, a short "Prayer," and a couple short questions to "Test Yourself." A catechism makes the Word of God ring within us to change our lives. The Word of God is no ordinary word. Saint John tells us that Jesus is the Word, which means the Word in person! Everything that God has to say to us, he says by giving us his Son, Jesus. This catechism helps us learn more about Jesus so that we can know him, follow him, and keep him always in our hearts.
