Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why does it seem we feel closer to God when we are immersed in a natural or idyllic or wild setting? And then even more so at dawn or dusk? We know by scripture and experience that a loving God who never sleeps and is not influenced by the concept of time is accessible to us at any time and any place. Yet we also know that our life, our world, is one of seasons. Our days, our bodies, our emotions, and even the ease with which we find God are ever changing in nature and intensity according to weather, seasons, sunlight, and time.
Book Synopsis The Possibility of America by : David Dark
Download or read book The Possibility of America written by David Dark and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2019-04-09 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in the years following 9/11, David Darks book The Gospel according to America warned American Christianity about the false worship that conflates love of country with love of God. It delved deeply into the political divide that had gripped the country and the cultural captivity into which so many American churches had fallen. In our current political season, the problems Dark identified have blossomed. The assessment he brought to these problems and the creative resources for resisting them are now more important than ever. Into this new political landscape and expanding on the analysis of The Gospel according to America, Dark offers The Possibility of America: How the Gospel Can Mend Our God-Blessed, God-Forsaken Land. Dark expands his vision of a fractured yet redeemable American Christianity, bringing his signature mix of theological, cultural, and political analysis to white supremacy, evangelical surrender, and other problems of the Trump era.

Book Synopsis A World of Possibilities by : Darrell Jackson
Download or read book A World of Possibilities written by Darrell Jackson and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you been hiding from God? Have you been hiding your gifts, your talents, and your anointing that God has on your life? Have you lived up to your full potential? Do you understand your purpose? Do you have the faith and courage to leave your comfort zone and step out into A World of Possibilities? Many of us often think about the things that are missing in our lives. We become easily discouraged and bogged down with busyness, boredom, mediocrity, and routine. Within these pages, Jackson points out that we are often the cause of our own lack of success. Our limited thinking and our self-doubting of what we can accomplish do not reflect the God-given power that resides within us. Jackson also states that we should have a "can do" attitude because God says that we can do it.
Book Synopsis An Archive of Possibilities by : Rachel Marie Niehuus
Download or read book An Archive of Possibilities written by Rachel Marie Niehuus and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2023-12-22 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In An Archive of Possibilities, anthropologist and surgeon Rachel Marie Niehuus explores possibilities of healing and repair in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo against a backdrop of 250 years of Black displacement, enslavement, death, and chronic war. Niehuus argues that in a context in which violence characterizes everyday life, Congolese have developed innovative and imaginative ways to live amid and mend from repetitive harm. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork and the Black critical theory of Achille Mbembe, Christina Sharpe, Alexis Pauline Gumbs and others, Niehuus explores the renegotiation of relationships with land as a form of public healing, the affective experience of living in insecurity, the hospital as a site for the socialization of pain, the possibility of necropolitical healing, and the uses of prophesy to create collective futures. By considering the radical nature of cohabitating with violence, Niehuus demonstrates that Congolese practices of healing imagine and articulate alternative ways of living in a global regime of antiblackness.
Download or read book Unsinkable Faith written by Tracie Miles and published by David C Cook. This book was released on 2017-04-01 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many people, remaining optimistic and feeling positive about themselves and their lives is a constant battle—especially when circumstances are difficult and life is hard. For others, negativity is something that only sneaks up from time to time, yet still wreaks havoc in their hearts. Regardless of the root causes, once pessimistic thoughts permeate our minds, our feelings and emotions begin to control us instead of us controlling them. Eventually it doesn’t seem possible to stay positive, happy, and full of joy, and negative thought patterns shake our faith, causing us to sink emotionally, mentally, and spiritually over time. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Despite what storms roll in, hearts anchored in God don’t sink. When we change the way we think, we can change the way we feel and live, even if our circumstances remain the same. Intentionally embracing the opportunity to experience a transformed heart and a renewed mind opens the door for a changed life, because a positive mind will always lead to a more positive life. In Unsinkable Faith, author and Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker Tracie Miles offers hope for women who struggle with negativity. Each chapter explores Tracie’s and other women’s personal stories, showing how they rose above their circumstances by transforming and renewing their minds. Unsinkable Faith is a breath of fresh air for anyone longing for a heart full of joy, an unbreakable smile, and a new, more optimistic perspective on life. This book will equip you to: Replace pessimism with positive thinking by becoming the captain of your thoughts; Learn how true joy and happiness are based on choice, not circumstances; Overcome unhealthy habits of negative thinking by intentionally implementing three easy mind-renewing steps; Stop feeling hopeless and pitiful, and start feeling hope-filled and powerful instead; and Discover that when you change the way you think, you change the way feel, and in turn you can change your life completely.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Singular and star-studded writings on America’s neon-lit playground At once a Technicolor wonderland and the embodiment of American mythology, Las Vegas exists at the Ground Zero of a reverence for risk-taking and the transformative power of a winning hand. Jake Johnson edits a collection of short essays and flash ideas that probes how music-making and soundscapes shape the City of Second Chances. Treating topics ranging from Cher to Cirque de Soleil, the contributors delve into how music and musicians factored in the early development of Vegas’s image; the role of local communities of musicians and Strip mainstays in sustaining tensions between belief and disbelief; the ways aging showroom stars provide a sense of timelessness that inoculates visitors against the outside world; the link connecting fantasies of sexual prowess and democracy with the musical values of Liberace and others; considerations of how musicians and establishments gambled with identity and opened the door for audience members to explore Sin City–only versions of themselves; and the echoes and energy generated by the idea of Las Vegas as it travels across the country. Book Synopsis Eight Improbable Possibilities by : John Gribbin
Download or read book Eight Improbable Possibilities written by John Gribbin and published by Icon Books. This book was released on 2021-10-07 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mind-warping excursion into the wildly improbable truths of science. Echoing Sherlock Holmes' famous dictum, John Gribbin tells us: 'Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever is left, however improbable, is certainly possible, in the light of present scientific knowledge.' With that in mind, in his sequel to the hugely popular Six Impossible Things and Seven Pillars of Science, Gribbin turns his attention to some of the mind-bendingly improbable truths of science. For example: We know that the Universe had a beginning, and when it was – and also that the expansion of the Universe is speeding up. We can detect ripples in space that are one ten-thousandth the width of a proton, made by colliding black holes billions of light years from Earth. And, most importantly from our perspective, all complex life on Earth today is descended from a single cell – but without the stabilising influence of the Moon, life forms like us could never have evolved.
Book Synopsis The Impossible Possibility by : Elisheva Irma Diaz
Download or read book The Impossible Possibility written by Elisheva Irma Diaz and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2019-10-18 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You will find this book to be an easy read yet this writer believes it will be a helpful one for those that have experienced the loss of a loved one. The Impossible Possibility is not intended to be religious. If one had to label it, it would be better referred to as an interfaith and/or universal spiritual perspective on grief. Moreover, it was not written to persuade anyone toward a particular doctrine nor stream of faith, but to encourage the reality that there is life after death and that we can have hope that our departed loved ones have transitioned from life to life. It is this writers contention that life here on earth meets death only to meet life again. This book was written based on my experiences as clergy and for over thirty years, ministering to people from all walks of life, cultures, and religions many, who have been faced with different types of loss that witnessed many impossible possibilities. It is true, the divine Soul is powerful. That which I said I understood for many years, I did not fully grasp, until, my work in Chaplaincy and Bereavement in the medical field through Hospice and Home Health. It truly opened my eyes. This season of bereavement in one's life is filled with impossible possibilities and it is best we move forward toward healing with this in mind.
