Download or read book Vincent's Women written by Donna Russo and published by Next Chapter. This book was released on 2024-03-26 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Donna Russo's 'Vincent's Women' is the untold story of Vincent's loves: how they shaped his life, his art, and his death. It writes against the ‘myths,’ exploring the possibility that none of them are true. It is the only novel to bring into question his sexuality, how he lost his ear, who he lost it for, and how he might have died, all through the eyes of a woman. We learn of Her; we learn all of it through Her. The story is guided by Johanna van Gogh Bonger, Vincent's sister-in-law, as she decides to reveal the truth about Vincent to her son. We are then taken on a journey through Vincent's life, each section bringing a pivotal moment of Vincent's life alive while showing us the part she played in bringing it about. Between each woman, our guide, Johanna, gives us the transitional periods, right up to his death, which is now in question. Hundreds of the nearly thousand letters between Vincent van Gogh and his brother Theo, now considered one of the greatest documents of the human experience, were used to help construct this novel, its narrative, and dialogue, especially the dialogue of Vincent himself. Vincent van Gogh is one of the most well-known artists of all time. The world knows of his madness, traumas, and suicide. But what if all that we know isn’t true? What if this knowledge is based on rumors and nothing more? What if his true story is vastly different when based on factual material and forensic information? What if the truth of Vincent’s life—his madness and his genius—is defined by his never-ending search for love?
Book Synopsis The Culture and Art of Death in 19th Century America by : D. Tulla Lightfoot

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nineteenth-century Victorian-era mourning rituals--long and elaborate public funerals, the wearing of lavishly somber mourning clothes, and families posing for portraits with deceased loved ones--are often depicted as bizarre or scary. But behind many such customs were rational or spiritual meanings. This book offers an in-depth explanation at how death affected American society and the creative ways in which people responded to it. The author discusses such topics as mediums as performance artists and postmortem painters and photographers, and draws a connection between death and the emergence of three-dimensional media.
Book Synopsis William Friedkin by : Christopher Lane
Download or read book William Friedkin written by Christopher Lane and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2020-03-18 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academy Award–winning director William Friedkin (b. 1935) is best known for his critically and commercially successful films The French Connection and The Exorcist. Unlike other film school–educated filmmakers of the directors’ era, Friedkin got his start as a mailroom clerk at a local TV station and worked his way up to becoming a full-blown Hollywood filmmaker by his thirties. His rapid rise behind the camera from television director to Oscar winner came with self-confidence and unorthodox methods. Known for his gritty and auteurist style, Friedkin’s films tell the story of a changing America upended by crime, hypocrisy, the occult, and amorality. Although his subsequent films achieved varying levels of success, his cultural impact is undeniable. William Friedkin: Interviews collects fifteen articles, interviews, and seminars spanning Friedkin’s career. He discusses early influences, early successes, awards, and current projects. The volume provides coverage of his directorial process, beliefs, and anecdotes from his time serving as the creative force of some of the biggest films of the 1970s and beyond—from his early days in Chicago to his run-ins with Alfred Hitchcock to firing guns on set and witnessing an actual exorcism in Italy. Through previously unpublished and obscure interviews and seminars, the story of William Friedkin’s work and life is woven together into a candid and concise impression for cinephiles, horror junkies, and aspiring filmmakers alike. Readers will gain insight into Friedkin’s genius from his own perspectives and discover the thoughts and processes of a true maverick of American cinema.

Book Synopsis Killing Vincent by : Irving Kaufman Arenberg
Download or read book Killing Vincent written by Irving Kaufman Arenberg and published by . This book was released on 2018-10-15 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On July 27, 1890, Vincent van Gogh came stumbling into his room in the Ravoux Inn, in Auvers-sur-Oise, France, bleeding from a wound in his abdomen. Thirty hours later, Vincent was dead. THe common myth, which has prevailed for over one hundred years, is that the "mad" artist shot himself in a wheatfield after suffering from years of unhappiness and "insanity". But is that what really happened?Killing Vincent is meant as a historical analysis and exposé of the most dastardly murder of Vincent van Gogh and the19th century, nefarious cover up of the world's most iconic artist's death. This is the biggest cold case in the annals of the art world. I have attempted to continue to explore the key questions that TIME magazine asked in its October 31, 2011, cover story: "Who killed Vincent van Gogh?" and "Was van Gogh's death really a suicide?" on the "Culture" Cover. I have attempted to answer both questions by adding in modern 21st century forensic analysis. This work is not meant as an academic treatise or dissertation, with every observation, thought, and detail requiring documentation. It is only an attempt as an expose', to seek the truth of what really happened on the day Vincent van Gogh was mortally wounded, and to best connect all the missing "dots". In the process, I will try to fit the best murder scenario into what little is really accepted, and why he was murdered....significantly changing art history! This book attempts to explore all possible scenarios, no matter how likely or unlikely, or how relevant or irrelevant they may appear to be to this cold case at first glance. Which of several scenarios best puts all the facts, stories, and legends together and connects all these odd "dots" now in a persuasive manner? Sometimes the truth is more unbelievable than the reality it discloses.
