Book excerpt: More than ten thousand men marched through the streets of Munich on April 22, 1919. They were members of Germany's first Red Army, recruited to defend the Bavarian Soviet Republic, under the command of Rudolf Egelhofer, a former sailor in the German Imperial Navy and barely 24 years old. Erich Wollenberg commanded the Red Army Group North (Dachau) infantry as it faced the advancing White Guard composed of Freikorps, backed by the Hoffmann government in Bamberg. It is a story of heroism and betrayal, as the Soviet Republic and the Red Army were crushed in just two weeks. Bonus material includes short biographical details about Wollenberg and Egelhofer, an essay on the Wollenberg-Hoelz "conspiracy" and Stalin's anti-German purge, and the courtroom speech of the leader of the Communist government in Munich, Eugen Leviné.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many children growing up in the Soviet Union before World War II knew the meaning of deprivation and dread. But for the son of an “enemy of the people,” those apprehensions were especially compounded. When the secret police came for his father in 1938, ten-year-old Anatole Konstantin saw his family plunged into a morass of fear. His memoir of growing up in Stalinist Russia re-creates in vivid detail the daily trials of people trapped in this regime before and during the repressive years of World War II—and the equally horrific struggles of refugees after that conflict. Evicted from their home, their property confiscated, and eventually forced to leave their town, Anatole’s family experienced the fate of millions of Soviet citizens whose loved ones fell victim to Stalin’s purges. His mother, Raya, resorted to digging peat, stacking bricks, and even bootlegging to support herself and her two children. How she managed to hold her family together in a rapidly deteriorating society—and how young Anatole survived the horrors of marginalization and war—form a story more compelling than any novel. Looking back on those years from adulthood, Konstantin reflects on both his formal education under harsh conditions and his growing awareness of the contradictions between propaganda and reality. He tells of life in the small Ukrainian town of Khmelnik just before World War II and of how some of its citizens collaborated with the German occupation, lending new insight into the fate of Ukrainian Jews and Nazi corruption of local officials. And in recounting his experiences as a refugee, he offers a new look at everyday life in early postwar Poland and Germany, as well as one of the few firsthand accounts of life in postwar Displaced Persons camps. A Red Boyhood takes readers inside Stalinist Russia to experience the grim realities of repression—both under a Soviet regime and German occupation. A moving story of desperate people in desperate times, it brings to life the harsh realities of the twentieth century for young and old readers alike.

Book excerpt: Public interest in Adolf Hitler and all aspects of the Third Reich continues to grow as new generations ponder the moral questions surrounding Nazi Germany and its historical legacy. One aspect of Nazism that has not received sufficient attention from historians of the Third Reich is the doctrine's origins in the Thule Society and its covert activities. A Munich occult group with a political agenda, the Thule Society was led by Rudolf von Sebottendorff, a German commoner who had been adopted by nobility during a sojourn in the Ottoman Empire. After returning to Europe, Sebottendorff embraced a form of theosophy that stressed the racial superiority of Aryans. The Thule Society attempted to establish an anti-Semitic, working-class front for disseminating its esoteric ideas and founded the German Workers' Party, which Hitler would later transform into the National Socialist German Workers' (Nazi) Party. Several of the society's members eventually assumed prestigious posts in the Third Reich. David Luhrssen has written the first comprehensive study of the society's activities, its cultural roots, and its postwar ramifications in a historical-critical context. Both general readers and academics concerned with European cultural and intellectual history will find that Hammer of the Gods opens new perspectives on nineteenth- and twentieth-century Europe.

Book excerpt: In her study of Oberammergau, the Bavarian village famous for its decennial passion play, Helena Waddy argues against the traditional image of the village as a Nazi stronghold. She uses Oberammergau's unique history to explain why and how genuinely some villagers chose to become Nazis, while others rejected Party membership and defended their Catholic lifestyle. She explores the reasons for which both local Nazis and their opponents fought to protect the village's cherished identity against the Third Reich's many intrusive demands. She also shows that the play mirrored the Gospel-based anti-Semitism endemic to Western culture.

This troubling and pointedly argued book addresses this question through a targeted case study of Hof, a small Bavarian town, in the five years after the First World War. During this tumultuous period, a series of devastating crises and violent confrontations discredited the representatives of democratic liberalism and handed the initiative to a reinvigorated radical Right. Crucially, these crises were understood by Hof’s inhabitants as part of a broader “European Civil War” unleashed by the Russian Revolution and Treaty of Versailles. This detailed and disturbing study will be read with profit by students and scholars of modern history who seek new insights into the rise of the Nazis, and into the processes of popular radicalisation that did so much to bring about the destruction of the Weimar Republic.

More surprising, perhaps, was the fact that despite an ongoing cull of obsolescing types, on the last day of 1919, the RAF still possessed 9,122 non-obsolete aircraft , with a further 1,100 more assigned to the Fleet Air Arm. while the famous SE.5A and Sopwith Camel had by this time largely been consigned to history, the RAF possessed no less than 1,860 Sopwith Snipes which, from 1920, would become the RAF’s standard single-seat fighter for years to come. Other core types on charge on 31 December 1919 included some 1,650 Bristol F.2B fighters and 1,250 de Havilland DH.9As, which, together with the Snipe, accounted for over fifty per cent of the RAF’s inventory at that time. Avro 504 training aircraft accounted for a further 2,700 airframes. In this Flight Craft Special, the authors provide a detailed and informative pictorial history of those scout/fighter aircraft that served in an operational capacity with the RAF from January 1920 until the last day of 1939 – a period in which Britain once again moved from an era of peace to war with an old enemy, albeit this time Hitler’s totalitarian National Socialist Germany as opposed to the Imperial Germany of old. As well as covering each of the fighter types used during the inter-war period, and featuring most of the squadrons, the photographs themselves convey the sense of the technical advances that rapidly took root within Britain’s aero industries from the mid-1930s onwards, moving from the brightly-marked overall silver wood and linen biplanes to the dull camouflaged metal-skinned monoplanes. The progression of machine-gun development – from the Lewis and Vickers of the First World War to the later Browning – is covered, spanning the days of the biplanes’ two fixed synchronised Lewis or Vickers .303-inch machine-guns mounted in the forward fuselage to eight wing-mounted .303-inch Browning machine-guns in the ‘new’ monoplane fighters. There is also a small, but fascinating, section on the monoplane ‘also rans’ – the monoplane fighters that were designed and had prototypes built but failed to reach the finishing post!

Book excerpt: The first comprehensive history of the Nazi concentration camps In a landmark work of history, Nikolaus Wachsmann offers an unprecedented, integrated account of the Nazi concentration camps from their inception in 1933 through their demise, seventy years ago, in the spring of 1945. The Third Reich has been studied in more depth than virtually any other period in history, and yet until now there has been no history of the camp system that tells the full story of its broad development and the everyday experiences of its inhabitants, both perpetrators and victims, and all those living in what Primo Levi called "the gray zone." In KL, Wachsmann fills this glaring gap in our understanding. He not only synthesizes a new generation of scholarly work, much of it untranslated and unknown outside of Germany, but also presents startling revelations, based on many years of archival research, about the functioning and scope of the camp system. Examining, close up, life and death inside the camps, and adopting a wider lens to show how the camp system was shaped by changing political, legal, social, economic, and military forces, Wachsmann produces a unified picture of the Nazi regime and its camps that we have never seen before. A boldly ambitious work of deep importance, KL is destined to be a classic in the history of the twentieth century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tony Blair has often said that he wishes history to judge the great political controversies of the early twenty-first century--above all, the actions he has undertaken in alliance with George W. Bush. This book is the first attempt to fulfill that wish, using the long history of the modern state to put the events of recent years--the war on terror, the war in Iraq, the falling out between Europe and the United States--in their proper perspective. It also dissects the way that politicians like Blair and Bush have used and abused history to justify the new world order they are creating. Many books about international politics since 9/11 contend that either everything changed or nothing changed on that fateful day. This book identifies what is new about contemporary politics but also how what is new has been exploited in ways that are all too familiar. It compares recent political events with other crises in the history of modern politics--political and intellectual, ranging from seventeenth-century England to Weimar Germany--to argue that the risks of the present crisis have been exaggerated, manipulated, and misunderstood. David Runciman argues that there are three kinds of time at work in contemporary politics: news time, election time, and historical time. It is all too easy to get caught up in news time and election time, he writes. This book is about viewing the threats and challenges we face in real historical time.

In voluminous speeches and writings Hitler glorified the identical word touted by BS as his political philosophy. Hitler’s swastika was “S” letter shaped symbolism for his socialism. BS proudly classifies himself in the same fashion as Hitler and the world’s other genocidal psychopaths. Bernie Sanders was endorsed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) in the 2020 presidential election and AOC actively campaigns for BS. Why does AOC support such an old white male? She promotes him because they share the same extremist dogma. How did they both become socialists? AOC was heavily influenced by BS. The USA’s two worst national socialists were both born and raised in New York City. AOC grew up during BS’s years as a career politician. She learned a lot about socialism and wanted to get on the dole too. BS is the oldest white male who is running for nomination. BS is so elderly that he could be AOC’s grandfather (he is 48 years older than her). AOC was born a year after BS’s infamous honeymoon (1988) in the USSR just as Soviet socialism self-destructed. Sanders was born in 1941 shortly after Soviet socialism’s partnership with German socialism. Soviet socialism (under Stalin) and German socialism (under Hitler) had joined to launch WWII, destroying Poland together, and going onward from there in a pact to enslave Europe. After German socialism was defeated, Soviet socialism continued (as Sanders grew up) to ruin millions of lives and increase its record-setting mass-murders. As a child, Sanders had learned about socialism from his parents and other relatives. They attended government schools (socialist schools) in the USA where students were forced to perform the Nazi salute and chant robotically to the flag each morning at the ring of a bell. The Pledge of Allegiance to the USA’s Flag was the origin of the infamous stiff-armed salute (and other propagandistic behavior) that was borrowed decades later under German socialism and under other socialists worldwide. The pledge was written by an American socialist (Francis Bellamy) in order to spread socialism. Anyone who refused the ritual in the socialist schools was persecuted. At that time the socialist schools taught racism as official policy and imposed segregation by law. Sanders also learned socialism from government schools that he attended, and he chanted in unison each morning to the flag too (although the gesture had changed to hide socialism’s putrid history). During Sanders’ youth the socialist schools continued to teach racism as official policy and continued to impose segregation by law. “America’s Nazi salute” was often performed by public officials in the USA from 1892 through 1942. What happened to old photographs and films of the American Nazi salute performed by federal, state, county, and local officials? Those photos and films are rare because people don't want to know the truth about the government’s past. American youth groups (Scouting) adopted Bellamy's American Nazi salute (with Bellamy’s encouragement) AND saluted swastika badges (卐) worn by fellow scouts. Many Americans were accustomed to “Nazi salutes for swastikas” long before German socialism (and Hitler Youth) adopted similar behavior under Hitler. That helps to explain another shocking revelation: swastikas were promoted in the US military and worn as a patch on the upper left arm of American soldiers in a fashion that would become uniform under German socialism. There are photos in this book!

Book excerpt: Agnotology is the study of ignorance. This expose' unleashes a new attack on traditional questions about "how we know" to ask: Why don't we know what we don't know?! Agnotology (formerly agnatology) shows that ignorance is often more than just a lack of knowledge; it can also be the deliberate manufactured outcome of political and cultural struggles. What keeps ignorance alive, or allows it to be used as a political weapon of mass destruction? Ignorance has a history and a political geography, but there are also things people don't want you to know ("Ignorance is bliss" is a common cliché). This book treats examples from the realms of economic illiteracy, history, global climate change, militarism, environmental denialism, archaeology and anarchaeology, racial ignorance, and more. Those who do not study the past are condemned to repeat it. The goal of Agnotologists is to better understand how and why various forms of knowing do not come to be, or have disappeared, or have become invisible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Why are we socialists?” was written by Dr. Joseph Goebbels in 1929. Goebbels was the Minister of Propaganda under Adolf Hitler from 1933-1945. Goebbels has been described in various ways in documentaries that critique Nazism and Fascism. But what did Goebbels actually say when he talked? To find out, come inside his mouth. See what he said. This book examines the actual words of a man who came close to destroying the planet. If we are to discover the minds of Goebbels (and Hitler), we must penetrate behind the thick curtains of superficial evidence which conceal them and the unreliable media intermediaries who have distorted their speeches and writings. For example, “Why are we socialists?” is merely a small section of a larger article authored by Goebbels that is usually titled: “Those Damned Nazis.” However that is not the title that Goebbels’ gave his larger publication. In the German language the title was “Die verfluchten Hakenkreuzler” or “Those Damned Hakenkreuzlers.” Goebbels did not use the word “Nazi” in the title nor anywhere within the pamphlet (The revelations in this paragraph were uncovered in the historian Dr. Rex Curry’s work). “Those Damned Nazis” is a deceitful translation that was intended to cover up what Goebbels actually said. This book reproduces the entire text of “Why are we socialists?” As a free bonus, specific examination of Mein Kampf is made for many comparisons. This book is a useful study guide to Hitler's Mein Kampf, whereby what had been a vague plan suddenly was reality, almost to the disbelief of Goebbels and other supporters. Goebbels supported schools so that his deadly dogma could be spread throughout Germany’s educational system. This book is a startling expose' of the origin of Goebbels’ goals. This book reveals that many of Goebbels’ shocking ideas were borrowed from the USA.

It also opens up the histories of the three monotheistic faiths, and shows the people of the Gospels in history. Showing who they were, their writings, and their lives documented outside the Gospels such as Lazarus who arguably lived after his resurrection until he was 120 years old and was one of the most famous people of his day. First presenting arguments against current movements to change the faith, the author offers an exploded view of the times leading up to, during, and after the lives of the Apostles and how far and fast the Gospel changed an entire world. The tumultuous timeframe when opened up will shock and amaze you. Detailing the inception, development, and growth of the religion of Antichrist is shown historically for over 500 years. This book answers such questions as how can a man become a god and where does he gain the knowledge to bring his own image to life? How does he gain the world, and why does it follow him. In history and then real-time, the developments in religion, society, technology, and government are shown that catalyze the rise and advent of the Lawless One.

This book was released on with total page 637 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All historians did not see the similar symbolism of Adolf Hitler's NSV, SA, SS logos, as compared with the logo of Hitler's party: the National Socialist German Workers Party. Even today, only exceptional scholars with extraordinary skills (e.g. the USA's Historian Laureate Dr. Rex Curry) are able to perceive the “S”-letter shape of the NSV’s logo (The National Socialist People's Welfare; in German: Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt). The "S"-letter symbolism is almost as difficult to detect as in Hitler’s Hakenkreuz (hooked cross). It is as imperceptible as in the symbols for the SS and SA (Schutzstaffel and Sturmabteilung). All historians did not see (except for the historian Dr. Curry). Do you not see? Hitler used his party's symbol to represent "S"-letter shapes for "SOCIALIST." Adolf Hitler was a communist and Karl Marx was a Nazi. Together, they are the most notorious white male German political theorists of their time. Marx inspired Hitler. Hitler’s Marxism is foreshadowed in Marx’s Nazism within Marx’s antisemitic “On the Jewish Question” and other works (e.g. Karl Marx’s “Ethnological Notebooks”) that Hitler used to gain power in Germany. Hitler was elected to the Socialist Bavarian People's State and to the Communist Bavarian Soviet Republic. Photographic and video evidence proves Hitler’s communism, as well as contemporary reports. Hitler’s later criticisms of Marx were more strategic than ideological. His tactic was to self-identify as socialist to attract non-Marxists to his party. Hitler’s political work continued until he secured high office in Marx’s homeland. After gaining power, Hitler seized the Means of Production with the Reichsarbeitsdienst (The Reich Labour Service or RAD) and various other alphabet bureaucracies. Hitler replicated the communist Soviet Union which used the term “socialist” in its self-identification (Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics). Following the lead of the USSR and other communists, Hitler used the term “socialist” (not “communist”) in the name of his political party. Comrade Hitler’s communism remained on display when he joined Soviet communism to launch WWII, invading Poland together, and going onward from there in a secret conspiracy for their Global Marxism. Hitler persuaded Stalin to pursue International Communism. Hitler was more Marxist than Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Castro, the Kim thugs etc. Hitler believed that capitalism was dying, as did Marx. Hitler had observed the USSR and witnessed the death of capitalists (they were murdered there). Hitler continued to follow Marx’s communism (and the communist USSR) when Hitler attempted to eliminate the Bourgeois class. Many monsters were inspired by Karl Marx. He remains popular today. China drooled over Marx in the embarrassing video “Chinese President Xi Jinping delivers speech on anniversary of Marx’s birth” (2018). Yes, China is humiliated by the same old German who influenced Hitler. Of course, China has the largest population (billions) who self-identify the same as Hitler: SOCIALIST (the same way that Marx self-identified). And Xi’s video is a grim reminder that Mao worshipped Stalin (Hitler’s partner to start WWII).
