Download or read book A Quick Biochemical Oxygen Demand Test written by University of California, Davis and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A satisfactory, short term biological oxygen demand test suitable for operational control of waste treatment processes was developed. The Total Biological Oxygen Demand T (BOD) test, a mass culture technique which utilizes the change in chemical oxygen demand as resulting from bacterial action, was chosen as the basic system. Because the T (BOD) test was developed for and is conceptually limited to soluble wastewaters, considerable modification of the basic test was necessary. Results show that the modified T (BOD) test can be utilized for the determination of the oxygen demand of nonsoluble wastewaters. Values were not affected by dilution as long as the initial (time equals O) wastewater COD value was greater than 100 mg/l. Of greater utility is the development of COD vs T (BOD) correlations for a specific wastewater, however.

Download or read book Environmental Systems - Volume I written by Achim Sydow and published by EOLSS Publications. This book was released on 2010-09-27 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental Systems is a component of Encyclopedia of Environmental and Ecological Sciences, Engineering and Technology Resources in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty one Encyclopedias. Environmental Systems is something about data handling, modeling and decision making in the field of environmental systems. It includes related basic knowledge on measurement techniques, modeling techniques and models and their applications for decisions making. Environmental engineering / research are based on measurement techniques and related knowledge of natural and life sciences. Developed mathematical and numerical simulation models are tools and strictly purpose oriented, that means suitable for decision making. The three volumes on Environmental Systems are aimed at the following five major target audiences: University and College students Educators, Professional practitioners, Research personnel and Policy analysts, managers, and decision makers and NGOs.
Book Synopsis Rapid Instrumentation Methods for Water Pollution Analysis by : Michael G. Macnaughton
Download or read book Rapid Instrumentation Methods for Water Pollution Analysis written by Michael G. Macnaughton and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three new methods are described for determining the pollution loading on a waste treatment plant or a stream. These are Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Total Oxygen Demand (TOD), and the Carbon Dioxide Demand (CO2D). All of these can be used to replace or supplement the conventional Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) procedures. Graphs which show the relationship between the three techniques and the conventional COD and BOD tests are included for industrial and domestic wastes.
