Book Synopsis A Premature Affair by : Richard Joyce
Download or read book A Premature Affair written by Richard Joyce and published by Arena books. This book was released on 2013 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In A Premature Affair, Richard Joyce's new novel, readers are transported to North Texas in the 1960s for a story about the precarious and fragile nature of young love and early friendships. "A Premature Affair" depicts an abortive love affair between Adam, a young English writer/teacher, and his determined English girl-friend. The affair ultimately shatters, as the lovers are driven apart by their own selfish aims and flaws of character, as well as by the stifling pressures of parental consent and convention. In parallel, readers will watch the decline and ultimate destruction of one of Adam's friends and colleagues, Bill, destroyed by flaws in his own character and hidden external forces aligned against him. Joyce deals with timeless themes in A Premature Affair. "Young people still face the same inherent hazards in their lives and in the affairs of the heart as do the characters in this book," he says. "Although the external formats may be different today, the internal issues confronting people remain eternally the same." "The language is quite beautiful - fluid and poetic." Capel and Land, Literary Agents "The writing is strong and the plot intriguing." Futerman, Rose & Associates, Literary Agents
Book Synopsis The Role of Environmental Hazards in Premature Birth by : Institute of Medicine
Download or read book The Role of Environmental Hazards in Premature Birth written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-11-17 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each year in the United States approximately 440,000 babies are born premature. These infants are at greater risk of death, and are more likely to suffer lifelong medical complications than full-term infants. Clinicians and researchers have made vast improvements in treating preterm birth; however, little success has been attained in understanding and preventing preterm birth. Understanding the complexity of interactions underlying preterm birth will be needed if further gains in outcomes are expected. The Institute of Medicine's Roundtable on Environmental Health Sciences, Research, and Medicine sponsored a workshop to understand the biological mechanism of normal labor and delivery, and how environmental influences, as broadly defined, can interact with the processes of normal pregnancy to result in preterm birth. This report is a summary of the main themes presented by the speakers and participants.

Book Synopsis The Affairs of Men by : Harvey E. Kaye
Download or read book The Affairs of Men written by Harvey E. Kaye and published by Forge Books. This book was released on 2007-04-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Harvey Kaye, emeritus assistant clinical professor of Psychiatry at New York Medical College, has spent decades analyzing matters of gender and sexual orientation. He's seen modern men lured by the siren song of the "Masculine Mystique" and pressured to fulfill the "Dominance Drive" and the "Heroic Imperative." The result is The Affairs of Men, a wry view of the masculine wilderness. Pressured by conflicting societal and familial standards, besieged by unrelenting demands to be sexier, wealthier, more successful, "more of a man," men pay a price in marriage, in the bedroom, in the workplace, and most important, in their sense of identity. It's clear that men are at a cultural crossroads, facing difficult questions: Why do men attempt to achieve impossible goals? How do gay men fit into overall images of masculinity? Are traditional male-female relationship passé? What roles should men take in their families? The Affairs of Men wittily illuminates the world of men, looking at both the origins of western society's image of masculinity and its current landscape. Dr. Kaye states that men must embrace a new vision of what it means to be a man. Men must give up the entrenched myth of superiority that has limited them for centuries. They must learn to experience all emotions, not just societally-approved anger, hatred, and jealousy. They must learn-from each other and from the women in their lives-what it is to be fully human. Download or read book Infidelity written by Paul R. Peluso and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-06-15 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When one partner in a relationship is unfaithful to the other, it takes a lot of work by both parties involved to salvage the relationship. In today’s therapy-friendly climate, marriage/couples counseling is often a part of that rebuilding process. Many couples seek out professional therapy after an affair is out in the open, but often the act of infidelity is revealed while uncovering and discussing unrelated issues for which the couple is in counseling. And yet, amazingly, as common as this complex and difficult topic arises in therapy, there is relatively little professional literature devoted to understanding and "treating" infidelity. In this volume, Paul Peluso has assembled a truly impressive list of contributors from a range of disciplines and backgrounds, including marital therapy, family therapy, evolutionary psychology, marriage research, and cyberstudies, with the aim of filling this void.
