Download or read book A Preliminary Analysis of Rocket Exhaust Jet Effects on Missile Skin and Base Pressures at Mach 0.6 and 1.5 - Naca Lewis Flight Propulsion Laboratory Test 2093 written by G. E. Powell and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wind tunnel test of a one-thirtieth scale 'B' series Atlas missile with operating rocket engines was run at the NACA Lewis 8-by-6 foot supersonic wind tunnel. The primary test objective was to determine the amount of rocket and gas turbine exhaust recirculation into the missile base region; a secondary objective was to determine the effect of operating rockets on missile skin and base pressure. Only the pressure data are considered in this report. (Author).

Book Synopsis Effects on Adjacent Surfaces from the Firing of Rocket Jets by : Walter E. Bressette
Download or read book Effects on Adjacent Surfaces from the Firing of Rocket Jets written by Walter E. Bressette and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper is a preliminary and brief account of some research currently being conducted to determine the jet effects on adjacent surfaces from the firing of rocket jets. Measurements of jet-effect pressures on a flat plate as well as shadowgraphs are presented that were obtained when a rocket jet at a Mach number of 3 was exhausted downstream and upstream into free-stream flow at a Mach number of 2 located from 2 to 4.7 rocket-jet-exit diameters from the plate. The jet effects on the flat plate with the rocket jet exhausting downstream are of the same order of magnitude as those previously obtained from sonic exits with a total pressure 10 times lower. A maximum pressure coefficient on the plate of 1.35 was obtained when the rocket jet was exhausted upstream at 2 rocket-jet-exit diameters below the plate, and an integration of the measured jet-effect pressures at this position resulted in a normal force on the plate equal to 2.3 times the thrust output of the rocket jet.

Book Synopsis Investigation of Jet Plume Effects on the Longitudinal Stability Characteristics of a Body of Revolution with Various Fin Configurations at Mach Numbers from 0.2 to 2.3 by : James H. Henderson
Download or read book Investigation of Jet Plume Effects on the Longitudinal Stability Characteristics of a Body of Revolution with Various Fin Configurations at Mach Numbers from 0.2 to 2.3 written by James H. Henderson and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transonic wind tunnel tests were conducted on a body of revolution with various fin configurations to investigate jet plume effects on missile longitudinal stability. A series of cold air normal jets located downstream of the base were utilized to simulate the jet plume. Fins of various planform geometry were tested at a forward longitudinal location only. The angle of attack range was -4 to 11 degrees at Mach numbers of from 0.2 to 2.3. The test was run at the Arnold Engineering Development Center Transonic (16T) and Supersonic (16S) wind tunnels and was designated AEDC SF172/TF360. (Author).

This book was released on 1976 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the studies made to date by the Army Missile Command on the effects of the rocket jet plume on the Stability characteristics of a body of revolution with various fin configurations and at various fin positions on the body. The Mach numbers ranged from 0.2 to 2.3. A normal jet plume simulator was used to obtain the desired plume effects. This report concerns itself with those tests conducted on a 5-in. diameter, 52-in. long model, with a 3 caliber tangent ogive nose.
