Book excerpt: This book is meant to bridge the gap between small handbooks that do not contain enough material to understand why you are doing certain things and large textbooks that lack the practical information you need for how to do specific procedures, write notes, orders, and dictations. After reading it, you will be prepared to care for an obstetric patient from the moment they arrive in triage until the time they are discharged. You will understand not only how to perform both simple and complicated procedures, but also why they are necessary, and you will have the answers to the most common pimp questions that are asked of students and residents. The most up-to-date literature and evidence-based recommendations have been used to create simple treatment algorithms for the most common issues you will face, and numerous illustrations are included for clarity as well. Because of its focus, this book is also valuable resource for staff physicians who need an updated text on current obstetric care as well as for those who regularly interact with and teach medical students and residents.

Book excerpt: The author's previous book was reviewed by Forbes as "1 of 6 books that all entrepreneurs need to read right now." The Ultimate Practical Business Manual will teach you everything you need to know about business....from starting a company to taking it public. Most business books are significantly outdated. This book leverages many online resources and makes the general business, accounting and finance process very easy to understand (and enjoyable too)! There are many incredibly engaging and entertaining video links in the book to YouTube and other sources; 'edutainment' works! Although this book is close to 400 pages, I tried to visualize the content of this book as much as possible as this is a more impactful and enjoyable way to learn (think Pinterest versus the tiny words in the Economist)! The contents of this book are all based on my work experience at several firms, including Goldman Sachs, the consulting industry at Accenture, a few companies I have started, the hedge fund industry where I worked at Citadel and most recently, based on my experience at a prominent San Francisco based venture capital firm. I also included many helpful practical business concepts I learned while I did an MBA at Columbia University and a Bachelor of Commerce degree at McGill University. Think of this book as a "greatest hits" business summary from my MBA, undergraduate business degree, work experience in consulting, equities, hedge funds, venture capital and starting my own companies. As the title of this book suggests, this is a practical manual to help you accomplish your business career goals. I have minimized "boring theoretical concepts" in this book in order to keep it as close to reality as possible. I hope you enjoy it! In addition to teaching at 4 universities in the San Francisco Bay Area, you can find other courses that I teach online at www.udemy.com/user/chris-haroun/. About the Author: Chris Haroun is an award winning business school professor, venture capitalist and the author of "101 Crucial Lessons They Don't Teach You In Business School ." Forbes recently called this book 1 of 6 books that all entrepreneurs must read right now. Chris Haroun has had the opportunity in his career to invest in and meet with the top CEOs, entrepreneurs and investors in the world, including Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Marc Benioff and the CEOs of most large technology companies. Chris is currently a venture capitalist at a prominent San Francisco Bay Area venture capital firm and has previous work experience at Goldman Sachs, hedge fund giant Citadel, consulting firm Accenture and several firms that he has founded. He has successfully raised and has also managed over $1bn in his business/finance career. He has an MBA in Finance from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree with a major in Management Information Systems and International Business from McGill University where he was awarded a McGill University Dobson Fellowship for student venture capital and business model mentoring. Chris is also a frequent guest lecturer at several Bay Area business schools including Berkeley and Stanford. He has written numerous articles and has been interviewed in Forbes, VentureBeat, Entrepreneur Magazine, Wired Magazine, AlleyWatch and Pulse. He has also been interviewed on various business and venture capital topics on several radio stations, podcasts etc., including Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) which is Hong Kong's oldest and sole public service broadcaster. He serves on the boards of several Bay Area technology companies and charities and he lives in Hillsborough, California. Chris Haroun's goal is to "make business education impactful and entertaining with no boring theory; edutainment works!"

Use of cryosurgery as palliative treatment is also discussed, and the closing chapters consider postoperative care, complications, and future directions.

The standard approach of interpretation and discussion of ECGs and x-rays has been discussed. The ECG and x-ray chapters carry 25 ECGs and 60 imaging pictures. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of ‘BMA Book of the Year’ in 2004 Judges’ summary of the book: “This is a first-class text on the management of all aspects of the diabetic foot. It is a practical guide with information and advice, which is easy to access. It takes the reader through the natural history of the diabetic foot from the normal foot and relatively minor pathology to the end stage of infection, gangrene and ultimately amputation. The various stages with the book’s structure have case studies to highlight the clinical management problems encountered by diabetes foot specialists....Much of the text is broken up with bullet points, chapters and sub-chapters which allow the reader to pick out information from quick scans of the book. There is liberal use of illustrations throughout the book, which is particularly important as diabetic footcare is a specialty which is particularly reliant on observation. The book also details the ‘how to do it’ aspects rather than vague reference to what is required. It also uses the published evidence for its recommendations but, where this is lacking, the authors draw on their extensive experience of managing diabetic feet to guide the reader.” This book is a practical clinical manual for the diagnosis, treatment - both medical and surgical - and the long-term care of foot problems in people with diabetes. The authors are world-renowned experts in this subject and they present the internationally recognized best practice. The clinical chapters are presented in a structured, color-coded format to allow easy reference. The text also includes highlighted best clinical practice tips. Each chapter is accompanied by high-quality, full-color photographs that provide excellent examples of the earliest presenting signs as well as illustrating the step-by-step guidance on treatment. This book is an essential manual for every healthcare professional involved in the care of patients with diabetes.

This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The user This manual is designed for the use of geo-scientists with an interest and need in developing palaeobiological materials as a potential source of data. To meet this objective practical procedures have been formatted for use by both professional and semi professional students with an initial understanding of palaeo biological research aims as a primary source of scientific data. I have attempted to provide an explanation and understanding of practical procedures which may be required by students undertaking palaeobiological projects as part of a degree course. The layout of this manual should be particularly beneficial in the instruction and training of geotechnologists and museum preparators. Graduate students and scientists requiring an outline of a preparation procedure will also be able to use the manual as a reference from which to assess the suitability of a procedure. This manual is also intended for use by the "committed amateur". Many of the techniques described in this manual have been devised by non-palaeontologists, and developed from methods used in archaeology, zoology and botany, as well as other areas of geology. A considerable number of the methods can be undertaken by the amateur, and in the case of many of the field procedures, should be used. This will ensure that specimens and samples can be conserved in such a manner as to facilitate any later research, and not invalidate the results of subsequent geochemical analytical techniques which might be employed.
