Book excerpt: To play the flute with a clear and convincing sound depends on the understanding of the physical concepts required to make the instrument sound without using undue force and applying just the right amount of physical help where needed. Edmund Raas has explored and taught these fine-points for over 60 years. Born in Switzerland, he has been influenced by the teachings of Emil Niosi (pupil of the great Georges Barrre), Hugo Haldemann, Jean-Pierre Rampal and Aurle Nicolet. Besides teaching, he had the opportunity to play solo concerti and act in many chamber music groups including Renaissance and Baroque music on period instruments. From 1977 to 2005 he also acted as first flutist in the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of So Paulo, Brazil. Since his retirement from this orchestra he is pursuing a career as composer.

Book Synopsis Diagnostic Criteria Handbook in Histopathology by : Paul J. Tadrous
Download or read book Diagnostic Criteria Handbook in Histopathology written by Paul J. Tadrous and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-08-24 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is designed to help jobbing histopathologists jog their memory and get through more workload in any working day. Rapid access is facilitated by a bullet-point, tabular and diagrammatic style, as well as by handy anatomical diagrams, guidance on the ‘Cut-Up’ with emphasis on core ‘datasets’ and by a special index for frozen section advice, grading systems and scoring systems. The book provides, where useful, differential diagnosis lists and presents diagnostically helpful molecular and immunohistochemical findings. Information is kept up-to-date on a dedicated website www.pathbook.com. The Diagnostic Criteria Handbook in Histopathology is not designed to be an “exam cram” and neither will it serve as a basic text for beginners. Trainees, however, will still benefit from the sheer breadth of topics covered in this one small volume: from lab management and lab methods, to autopsy practice, cytology and all sub-specialties in surgical pathology. A chapter on exam technique and mnemonics makes the book also an essential companion for those revising for professional exams. So why clutter your precious desk space with multiple sets of heavy two-volume reference works? Give this handy Vade Mecum a place next to your microscope and see how much time you could save!

Book Synopsis The Amateur's Vademecum by : E. B. Reilley
Download or read book The Amateur's Vademecum written by E. B. Reilley and published by . This book was released on 1870 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reilley's work is a typical example of dance manuals published during the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Whereas previous manuals often had many pages devoted to etiquette and deportment, Reilley devotes but two paragraphs, noting that he was leaving the rest to the "good sense and nature" of his readers. The manual provides an extensive history of dance from the Greeks and Romans to the courts of Italy and France to the dances of aboriginal American Indians. Demonstrating the century's growing interest in physical education, Reilley provides a detailed section on exercise. The manual gives descriptions of the popular ballroom dances of the era--quadrilles, waltz, schottisch, and polka.
