Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spirituality can be proven – high-tech computers and modern quantum physics make it possible. Michael König has done much research on the laws of biological processes for over 30 years. In the beginning it was his assumption that electrical charges and the fields caused by them influence our being. König reports about the discovery of the Kirlian effect, the luminous phenomena of structures in a high-voltage, high-frequency field as well as the application in geology, agriculture and medicine. From his findings he developed the Photon-Diagnosis with which the health and state of consciousness of a person can be measured electromagnetically, both quantitatively and qualitatively. By applying this in the field of medicine, it allows for a detailed complimentary medical diagnosis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book first provides readers with an introduction to the underlying physics and state-of-the-art application of photon counting detectors for X-ray imaging. The authors explain that a photon-counting imaging detector can realize quantitative analysis because the detector can derive X-ray attenuation information based on the analysis of intensity changes of individual X-ray. To realize this analysis, it is important to consider the physics of an object and detector material. In this book, the authors introduce a novel analytical procedure to create quantitative X-ray images for medical diagnosis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brief summary of photon-electron scattering experiments is presented, and comments made regarding their application to plasma diagnostics. The general field of gas discharge afterglow studies is reviewed, and a summary of recent experimental studies of helium afterglow is presented. A photon-electron scattering apparatus was used to perform experiments indicating the feasibility of afterglow studies using the Thomson scattering method. An impure helium discharge afterglow having properties which make it difficult to diagnose by other means was studied using laser scattering. The afterglow was also examined spectroscopically, and the results are compared. Unexpected phenomena which have been called induced luminosity and giant scattering were observed. The former is superficially like the radiation enhancement reported by Rose, Lidsky, and Thompson, but there are substantial differences. The observed effects appear to arise from hydrocarbon impurities in the gas. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over recent years there has been a vast expansion in the variety of imaging techniques available, and developments in machine specifications continue apace. If radiologists and radiographers are to obtain optimal image quality while minimising exposure times, a good understanding of the fundamentals of the radiological science underpinning diagnostic imaging is essential. The second edition of this well-received textbook continues to cover all technical aspects of diagnostic radiology, and remains an ideal companion during examination preparation and beyond. The content includes a review of basic science aspects of imaging, followed by a detailed explanation of radiological sciences, conventional x-ray image formation and other imaging techniques. The enormous technical advances in computed tomography, including multislice acquisition and 3D image reconstruction, digital imaging in the form of image plate and direct radiography, magnetic resonance imaging, colour flow imaging in ultrasound and positron radiopharmaceuticals in nuclear medicine, are all considered here. A chapter devoted to computers in radiology considers advances in radiology information systems and computer applications in image storage and communication systems. The text concludes with a series of general topics relating to diagnostic imaging. The content has been revised and updated throughout to ensure it remains in line with the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) examination, while European and American perspectives on technology, guidelines and regulations ensure international relevance.

Book excerpt: During the first half of 1994, a number of the diagnostic systems for measurement of the charged-particle beam parameters throughout the subsystems of the Advanced Photon Source (APS) have been installed and tested. The particle beams eventually will involve 450-MeV to 7-GeV positrons and with different pulse formats. The first test and commissionin results for beam profiles, beam position monitors, loss rate monitors, current monitors, and synchrotron radiation photon monitors hve been obtained using 200- to 350-MeV electron beams injected into the subsystems. Data presented are principally from the transport lines and the positron accumulator ring.

Book excerpt: The papers in this Volume were given at a two-day Conference on the subject of Optoelectronics in Medicine. The meeting was held in Florence, and promoted by the Consortium Centro di Eccellenza Optronica (C.E.O.). It represented the first of a series of Meetings on Optoelectronics that C.E.O. is organizing in order to stimulate new developments in this field and more efficient cooperation among local, national, and international research centers, industries, utilizers, etc .. Italian scientists have contributed consistently to the development of laser sources and to their applications to Medicine. A significant role has also been played by research institutes and industries in Florence. However, in this Conference, and in the Proceadings only a few Italian scientists were invited to present a lecture, thus offering the local and national communities as wide an international view as possible. Many more were present, however, as chairmen, and contributed successfully to making the discussions stimulating and fruitful. AB Editor, I had to substitute last-minute missing manuscripts with papers of my own, in order to keep the scheduled index of papers. The contributions presented at the Conference are written as extended, review like papers to provide a broad and representative coverage of the fields of light sources, optoelectronic systems for medical diagnosis, and light and laser applications to Medicine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spectral, Photon Counting Computed Tomography is a comprehensive cover of the latest developments in the most prevalent imaging modality (x-ray computed tomography (CT)) in its latest incarnation: Spectral, Dual-Energy, and Photon Counting CT. Disadvantages of the conventional single-energy technique used by CT technology are that different materials cannot be distinguished and that the noise is larger. To address these problems, a novel spectral CT concept has been proposed. Spectral Dual-Energy CT (DE-CT) acquires two sets of spectral data, and Spectral Photon Counting CT (PC-CT) detects energy of x-ray photons to reveal additional material information of objects by using novel energy-sensitive, photon-counting detectors. The K-edge imaging may be a gateway for functional or molecular CT. The book covers detectors and electronics, image reconstruction methods, image quality assessments, a simulation tool, nanoparticle contrast agents, and clinical applications for spectral CT.
