Darlene Gibson and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This quantitative study used a causal comparative research design to examine the academic, behavioral, and social progress of students with emotional or behavioral disorders (EBD), comparing those educated in separate classrooms within regular education schools, and those educated in separate day schools. The progress of these students was compared to determine if there was a significant difference between the two groups. The School Archival Records Search (SARS) instrument was used to collect data. Pre- and post- data were collected on eight variables, and a two-sample "t"-test was used to determine if means were significantly different between the two groups. Results revealed no significant difference at .05 alpha level in pre- and post- scores for academic and behavioral domains, and no significant difference in pre- scores in social domain. However, a significant difference at .05 alpha level in post- scores was found for the social domain. Findings were similar to previous studies, suggesting that students educated in these two settings demonstrated the same level of progress.

Book excerpt: The promotion of appropriate behavior in children with behavior disorders is one of the most arduous and time-consuming tasks faced by classroom teachers and parents. To support appropriate behavior across multiple settings, professionals need to have access to effective assessment and intervention strategies. In addition, there must be an understanding of school and family characteristics that may be contributing to or sustaining problematic behavior. Accordingly, this issue focuses on the development, assessment, and treatment of children that exhibit disruptive behavior in classrooms, at play, and home. Authors address a diverse representation of assessment and intervention strategies, illuminate the scope of current research agendas, and much more.

The new edition takes into account changes of the past two decades, and has been reorganized into four main sections to reflect current concerns of school-based staff working with students with behavior disorders. These four sections cover foundational information related to behavior disorders; existing theoretical perspectives of understanding behavior disorders; intervention; and programmatic considerations which influence the education of students with challenging behaviors. Two appendices provide a list of historical milestones associated with the field of behavior disorders (from 500-400 B.C. to 1999), and a list of additional resources (services, organizations, publications and journals). The authors' credentials are not given. Annotation copyrighted by Book News Inc., Portland, OR
