Download or read book A New Norm written by Tom Roberts and published by . This book was released on 2019-02 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New Norm is a poetic tale that is intended to reflect the feelings of those of us who struggle with anxiety, depression, grief, anger, doubt, shame, fear and more, yet provide encouragement that difficulties such as these can be overcome. It expresses how routine thoughts of negativity can sometimes cloud our reality making it difficult to enjoy life, to appreciate what is truly good, to have positive relationships, or to develop to one's full potential. It is a story that reminds us that perception is reality. That if one is willing to look, willing to accept, and willing to try, that there is a light both within and beyond available to not only illuminate, but change our world for the better. Our hope is that this story and the discussion guide that follows will become a springboard for a conversation with ourselves and/or with others to define what our dark clouds are and how we can make efforts to find the light of our new norm.A New Norm is the result of a partnership between Avera Behavioral Health and Children's Home Society of South Dakota in a joint effort to promote mental wellness. Purchases of this book will benefit the mission of helping kids and families served by both of these organizations.

Book Synopsis A Future for the American Economy by :
Download or read book A Future for the American Economy written by and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 1991-04 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American economy is filled with so many contradictions today that it foils the best prophecies and most sophisticated forecasts by economists. This book is about those contradictions and the directions the economy could take in the future. In particular, it is about the central contradiction: government control and market freedom. How this contradiction is resolved is important not only for the United States but ultimately for countries around the world. The main thesis of this book is that social factors--rather than purely economic factors--are at the root of the contradiction between market freedom and government control. The author argues that the way markets are socially organized is critical to their capacity for operating independent of government controls. In essence, the social organization of the private economy is the key to the free market system. The economy can function more productively and humanely if efforts are made to reduce state controls and create a market system that is socially self-regulated. Important first steps in this direction are readily observable. The author evaluates two important trends in corporate self-management--worker participation and co-ownership--presenting evidence that these trends are both in the corporate self-interest and in the public interest. Self-regulation is beginning at the intercorporate level, where firms compete and collaborate profitably in trade associations. New cooperative associations of small firms are shown to out-compete conglomerates through value-adding partnerships that utilize information technology and require the establishment of cooperative norms. Self-regulation is advanced through social investment, the allocation of capital by combining ethical and economic criteria. Over $450 billion is now being invested with ethical guidelines, suggesting that a balance of social and economic factors will be a vital part of investment practice in the future. The author suggests that if the United States wants to retain a vital economy at home, it must carefully examine the advantages of the social organization of world finance and encourage the power of world markets to regulate themselves without destroying local and national economies.

Book Synopsis Globalization, Economic Growth and Innovation Dynamics by : Paul J.J. Welfens
Download or read book Globalization, Economic Growth and Innovation Dynamics written by Paul J.J. Welfens and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-10-19 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the new global economy, more countries have opened up to international competition and rapid capital flows. However, in the triad the process of globalization is rather asymmetric. With a rising role of multinational companies there are favorable prospects for higher global growth and economic catching-up, respectively. Theoretical analysis suggests key ingredients of sustained growth, but there is also a new concept of a long-term equilibrium income gap in which convergence is rather unlikely. The analysis also picks up European and US labor market issues in the context of economic globalization and raises the question of which EU policies in the field of labor market reform and of innovation policies are adequate.
Book Synopsis Modernizing Democracy by : Matthias Freise
Download or read book Modernizing Democracy written by Matthias Freise and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-13 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modernizing Democracy brings together scholars focusing the role of associations and associating in contemporary societies. Organizations and associations have been identified as the “meso level of society” and as the “basic elements of democracy”. They are important providers of welfare services and play an important role between the individual and political spheres. In recent years the environment of associations and associating has changed dramatically. Individualization, commercialization and globalization are challenging both democracy and the capability of associations to fulfill the functions attributed to them by social sciences. This change provides the central question of the volume: Is being part of an organization or association becoming an outdated model? And do associations still have the capacity of modernizing societies or are they just outdated remnants of post-democracy? The contributions to Modernizing Democracy will be organized into: Studying Association and Associating in the 21st Century, Associating in Times of Post-Democracy and Associations and the Challenge of Capitalist Development. The book will be attractive to third sector researchers as well as a broader academic community of political scientists, sociologists, economists, legal scientists and related disciplines.
Book Synopsis Governing Networks by : Ari Salminen
Download or read book Governing Networks written by Ari Salminen and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation The EGPA Yearbook provides an overall view of current scientific discussion concerning networks, particularly the governing of networks in European public administration. More than 30 presentations by researchers and practitioners of public administration in different European countries guarantee that the wide range of topics related to network governance, information technology, and also to other special issues of administrative and managerial reforms related to the subject is fully covered. The Yearbook deals with two main topics centred on governing and developing networks. In the first part, issues are related to different interpretations of networks involved in social policy reforms, administration-citizen-relationships, reforming governance models, public-private relations, also including health care, local governance and professional policy networks. In the second part networks are discussed from the perspective of information technology. Among several presentations, the authors analyse challenges and applications of new technology in public administration, ICT-networks in social networks, and also reforms and improvements of new technology. The accent is on how IT is bringing new patterns into the public administration of different countries. The Yearbook demonstrates that a discussion of networks is a rather new and fresh way of thinking about the role of public sector authorities in society, reforms of hierarchical structures in public agencies and e-governance applications at all levels of government.
