This book was released on 1979 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a branch-and-bound algorithm for solving fixed charge transportation problems where not all cells exist. The algorithm exploits the absence of full problem density in several ways, thus yielding a procedure which is especially applicable to solving real-world problems which are normally quite sparse. Additionally, streamlined new procedures for pruning the decision tree and calculating penalties are presented. We present computational experience with both a set of large test problems and a set of dense test problems from the literature. Comparisons with other codes are uniformly favorable to the new method, which runs more than twice as fast as the best alternative. (Author).

Book Synopsis Equilibrium Problems and Variational Models by : P. Daniele
Download or read book Equilibrium Problems and Variational Models written by P. Daniele and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume, devoted to variational analysis and its applications, collects selected and refereed contributions, which provide an outline of the field. The meeting of the title "Equilibrium Problems and Variational Models", which was held in Erice (Sicily) in the period June 23 - July 2 2000, was the occasion of the presentation of some of these papers; other results are a consequence of a fruitful and constructive atmosphere created during the meeting. New results, which enlarge the field of application of variational analysis, are presented in the book; they deal with the vectorial analysis, time dependent variational analysis, exact penalization, high order deriva tives, geometric aspects, distance functions and log-quadratic proximal methodology. The new theoretical results allow one to improve in a remarkable way the study of significant problems arising from the applied sciences, as continuum model of transportation, unilateral problems, multicriteria spatial price models, network equilibrium problems and many others. As noted in the previous book "Equilibrium Problems: Nonsmooth Optimization and Variational Inequality Models", edited by F. Giannessi, A. Maugeri and P.M. Pardalos, Kluwer Academic Publishers, Vol. 58 (2001), the progress obtained by variational analysis has permitted to han dle problems whose equilibrium conditions are not obtained by the mini mization of a functional. These problems obey a more realistic equilibrium condition expressed by a generalized orthogonality (complementarity) con dition, which enriches our knowledge of the equilibrium behaviour. Also this volume presents important examples of this formulation.
Book Synopsis Location, Transport and Land-Use by : Yupo Chan
Download or read book Location, Transport and Land-Use written by Yupo Chan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-05 with total page 957 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1. Theme and focus Few books are available to integrate the models for facilities siting, transportation, and land-use. Employing state-of-the-art quantitative-models and case-studies, this book would guide the siting of such facilities as transportation terminals, warehouses, nuclear power plants, military bases, landfills, emergency shelters, state parks, and industrial plants. The book also shows the use of statistical tools for forecasting and analyzing implications of land-use decisions. The idea is that la- use on a map is necessarily a consequence of individual, and often conflicting, siting decisions over time. Since facilities often develop to form a community, these decisions are interrelated spatially—i. e. , they need to be accessible to one another via the transportation system. It is our thesis that a common methodological procedure exists to analyze all these spatial-temporal constructs. While there are several monographs and texts on subjects related to this book's, this volume is unique in that it integrates existing practical and theoretical works on facility-location, transportation, and land-use. Instead of dealing with individual facility-location, transportation, or the resulting land-use pattern individually, it provides the underlying principles that are behind these types of models. Particularly of interest is the emphasis on counter-intuitive decisions that often escape our minds unless deliberate steps of analysis are taken. Oriented toward the fundamental principles of infrastructure management, the book transcends the traditional engineering and planning disciplines, where the main concerns are often exclusively either physical design, fiscal, socioeconomic or political considerations.

The purpose of the symposium INCOM'2006 was to offer a forum to present the state-of-the-art in international research and development work, with special emphasis on the applications of optimisation methods, automation and IT technologies in the control of manufacturing plants and the entire supply chain within the enterprise. The symposium stressed the scientific challenges and issues, covering the whole product and processes life cycle, from the design through the manufacturing and maintenance, to the distribution and service. INCOM'2006 Technical Program also included a special event on Innovative Engineering Techniques in Healthcare Delivery. The application of engineering and IT methods in medicine is a rapidly growing field with many opportunities for innovation. The Proceedings are composed of 3 volumes: Volume 1 - Information Systems, Control & Interoperability Volume 2 - Industrial Engineering Volume 3 - Operational Research * 3-volume set, containing 362 carefully reviewed and selected papers * presenting the state-of-the-art in international research and development in Information Control problems in Manufacturing
Book Synopsis Quantitative Approaches to Distribution Logistics and Supply Chain Management by : Andreas Klose
