Book excerpt: From actress and mom Diane Kruger comes an enchanting story about how learning the meaning of her name changed her life—and how our names can help us find our own special powers. "Diane Kruger is celebrating the power of a name." — People Magazine. Do you know where your name comes from? Growing up in Germany, like so many children around the world, Diane Kruger felt like she stood out from the other kids. There was the pet bunny she talked to like a friend, her love of books, and even her name, which was unusual for her country. But then Diane’s mother tells her the origin of her name, and everything changes! Inspired by Diana, goddess of the hunt and magical protector of animals, Diane learns that she, too, will find her own special powers someday. On a trip to England, Diane and her mother visit the theater, and she is spellbound, realizing she’s meant to be an actress. This warm and relatable autobiographical story comes full circle when Diane explains how she chose her own daughter’s name, and invites readers to learn the meaning behind their own name and discover their own special powers. Illustrated in a classic storybook style by fine artist Christa Unzner, this book is sure to instill wonder as it inspires children to follow their dreams and passions.

Book excerpt: Kay Kenyon, noted for her science fiction world-building, has in this new series created her most vivid and compelling society, the Universe Entire. In a land-locked galaxy that tunnels through our own, the Entire is a bizarre and seductive mix of long-lived quasi-human and alien beings gathered under a sky of fire, called the bright. A land of wonders, the Entire is sustained by monumental storm walls and an exotic, never-ending river. Over all, the elegant and cruel Tarig rule supreme. Into this rich milieu is thrust Titus Quinn, former star pilot, bereft of his beloved wife and daughter who are assumed dead by everyone on earth except Quinn. Believing them trapped in a parallel universe—one where he himself may have been imprisoned—he returns to the Entire without resources, language, or his memories of that former life. He is assisted by Anzi, a woman of the Chalin people, a Chinese culture copied from our own universe and transformed by the kingdom of the bright. Learning of his daughter’s dreadful slavery, Quinn swears to free her. To do so, he must cross the unimaginable distances of the Entire in disguise, for the Tarig are lying in wait for him. As Quinn’s memories return, he discovers why. Quinn’s goal is to penetrate the exotic culture of the Entire—to the heart of Tarig power, the fabulous city of the Ascendancy, to steal the key to his family’s redemption. But will his daughter and wife welcome rescue? Ten years of brutality have forced compromises on everyone. What Quinn will learn to his dismay is what his own choices were, long ago, in the Universe Entire. He will also discover why a fearful multiverse destiny is converging on him and what he must sacrifice to oppose the coming storm. This is high-concept SF written on the scale of Philip Jose Farmer’s Riverworld, Roger Zelazny’s Amber Chronicles, and Dan Simmons’s Hyperion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern history unearthed as a boy becomes an innocent victim of corruption in Bolivia's crime world, where the power of family is both a prison and a means of survival. It's 1999 in Bolivia and Francisco's life consists of school, soccer, and trying to find space for himself in his family's cramped yet boisterous home. But when his father is arrested on false charges and sent to prison by a corrupt system that targets the uneducated, the poor, and the indigenous majority, Francisco and his sister are left with no choice: They must move into prison with their father. There, they find a world unlike anything they've ever known, where everything—a door, a mattress, protection from other inmates—has its price. Prison life is dirty, dire, and dehumanizing. With their lives upended, Francisco faces an impossible decision: Break up the family and take his sister to their grandparents in the Andean highlands, fleeing the city and the future within his grasp, or remain together in the increasingly dangerous prison. Pulled between two undesirable options, Francisco must confront everything he once believed about the world and his place within it. In this heart-wrenching novel, Melanie Crowder sheds light on a little-known era of modern South American history—where injustice still looms large—and proves that hope can be found, even in the most desperate places. Perfect for fans of Ruta Sepetys, Matt de la Pena, and Jacqueline Woodson. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I did over 12 years in prison for a crime I did not commit. I was told that unless I lied and said I committed the crime, they would send me to prison. I told the truth and to prison I was sent. Once in prison I was again told to lie or else they would not give me a parole. I again refused to lie and was made to do an extra 8 years in prison. I was severely punished for my honesty. My autobiography proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am innocent of what they sent me to prison for. I've included police reports, medical reports, photographs, as well as a news article that backs up what I am claiming. This book is my life's story. It will change your life for the good if you allow it to. My encounters with God during this horrific ordeal is how I kept my sanity. Though some would argue that I may have actually lost my sanity. Joking aside, I am amazed at my experiences with our judicial system and with God. I think because God knew how wrong I was going to be treated, that it moved him to come into my life in a big way. The greatest miraculous encounter I had, was when God wrote my name in the sky out of clouds!
