Our aim is to provide readers with the highest quality reproductions of fiction and non-fiction literature that has stood the test of time. The many thousands of books in our collection have been sourced from libraries and private collections around the world. The titles that Trieste Publishing has chosen to be part of the collection have been scanned to simulate the original. Our readers see the books the same way that their first readers did decades or a hundred or more years ago. Books from that period are often spoiled by imperfections that did not exist in the original. Imperfections could be in the form of blurred text, photographs, or missing pages. It is highly unlikely that this would occur with one of our books. Our extensive quality control ensures that the readers of Trieste Publishing's books will be delighted with their purchase. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing's titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers. Generally, Trieste books are purchased singly - on demand, however they may also be purchased in bulk. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Clinical Ophthalmology It has been our purpose in the following pages to place before the undergraduate and general practitioner of medi cine, a brief review of the anatomy, physiology, refraction, and common diseases of the eye. No attempt has been made to treat the subjects exhaustively. Simplicity and brevity of statement have not been sacrificed to the mere attractiveness of literary finish. We have, in a word, endeavored in good faith, to make the volume conform to the purpose for which it was written, by giving it the character, directness, and practicability of clinical teaching and practice. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Practical Ophthalmology Ophthalmology has long held a foremost place amongst the various branches of Medicine. In diagnosis, as well as in treatment, it had already attained to a high degree of precision at a time when modern scientific methods had as yet barely begun to foreshadow the results which they are now almost daily achieving in other departments. Having thus early taken a leading position, the possibilities of further advance seem in the meantime to have been proportionately restricted. Coincident with the rapid strides made in surgery generally, and with the many discoveries which seem not unlikely to lead eventually to real therapeutic advances in internal medicine. Ophthalmology has practically been at a standstill. This being so, and as there are already not a few text-books on diseases of the eye, an addition to their number can hardly claim to be called for because of the latest developments of the subject being either very extensive or very important. A large experience as a teacher has, however, shown me that an adequate appreciation of the nature and treatment of even the commoner forms of eye disease is far from being general. I venture to hope, therefore, that there may)e room for a treatise which is both short and essentially practical, and which, while representing without unnecessary detail current opinions as to pathology, gives expression to the authors individual experience as regards diagnosis and treatment. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Clinical Manual of Diseases of the Eye: Including a Sketch of Its Anatomy This book has not been written because the author supposed, for an instant, that there were not already in the English tongue many excellent treatises on diseases of the eye. It is presented to the profession because I have not deemed that the debt I owe to it could be even approximately satisfied, nor my own reputation as a teacher, whatever that may be, justly set tled, unless I presented in a permanent and accessible form some of the results, with their personal coloring, of my long experience both in hospital and private practice, in ophthalmic disease and therapeutics. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Ophthalmology of General Practice During the earlier part of my professional life I was engaged for several years in a busy general practice. Always interested in Ophthalmology, and with a certain amount of special training, I endeavoured to turn this knowledge to account, but was soon forced to realize my limitations in this respect. Unfortunately, the patient too often does not recognize such limitations, but expects his medical man to be an expert in all branches of medicine and surgery. In my difficulties I consulted various well-known textbooks on Ophthalmology, but in vain. They gave me excellent advice as to treatment in cases I was unable to diagnose; they appeared to me, in fact, to proceed on the assumption that I knew more than I really did, and, in order thoroughly to understand many parts of these works, a good deal of preliminary study was necessary, the time for which I could ill afford. I therefore reluctantly gave up treating diseases of the eye altogether. I do not defend that attitude. I am convinced, indeed, that the general practitioner can and ought to undertake treatment and give advice in many ophthalmic cases; and even when he does not profess to do so, he may occasionally find himself in a position in which he will be forced to express an opinion and initiate some line of treatment. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Ophthalmology This manual concerns itself only with some of the commoner diseases and injuries of the eye, and the simpler methods of testing the functions of the organ of sight, including a very brief account of the methods of detecting refractive errors. It makes no pretense to furnish a complete treatise. Therefore physiologic optics and de tailed descriptions of the anomalies of refraction and muscle balance and their treatment, Ophthalmoscopy, unusual and comparatively uncommon diseases of the eye, and most of the procedures of ophthalmic surgery are omitted. In the paragraphs on treatment a few operative methods are included because they may be regarded in a certain sense as emergency operations. In the appendix are recorded the Visual requirements for recruits and. Drafted men and for applicants in Aviation Service, the tests for ocular malingering, and formulas for the usual collyria, antiseptics, and astringents. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of the Diseases of the Eye: For Students and General Practitioners IN the following pages the author has endeavored to present a concise, practical, and systematic Manual of the Diseases of the Eye, intended for the student and the general practitioner of medicine. The great difficulty in preparing a book of this sort is to say enough but not too much. With this idea in view, the author has made the volume sufficiently comprehensive, up to date, and yet of such limited size that it can, if desired, be carried in the pocket. This restriction in size has been accomplished by omitting excessive detail, extensive discussion, and lengthy accounts of theories and rare conditions. The author has endeav ored to give the fundamental facts of ophthalmology and to cover all that is essential in this branch of medicine, always keeping in mind that the book has been written for students and general practitioners. Space therefore has been allotted as the necessities of such readers require, estimated by an extended experience in teaching. Thus, rare conditions have merely been mentioned; uncommon affections, of interest chiefly to the specialist, have been dismissed with a few lines; and common diseases, which the general practitioner is most frequently called upon to treat, have been described with comparative fulness.
